Mirrorforced's article in the June 28th Tip.it Times discusses this very trend. Find it here As for me, before I quit I would play in both styles. Often I just wanted to get a goal and have it over with, the reward of achieving it compensated for my time having not as much fun as just 'lax' skilling.

Tradition isn't and shouldn't be corrupted by contemporary fads. Anways, most of the land in America isn't urban at all, I've also seen many bears in my life and a couple eagles in the wild. Just because landscape isn't as relevant as it used to be in peoples' lives doesn't mean that we still don't have the beautiful mountains, forests, rivers, beaches, and more, that used to define the persona of our country. But America's overall persona has been ever-changing with the times, determined by the prominence of various cultures and fads in our country. Hundreds, fifty, ten years ago we were all viewed in different ways by the populous, but that doesn't change its tradition. I believe a country's collective morale and reputation rest greatly on our tradition, and by definition, tradition shouldn't change.

Lateralus has spoken, this reading thread is now complete. Thanks, I'll try this along with Ross's suggestion of diverting the eyes every few minutes.

As I said, stimulants are not an option. I am hypersensitive to caffeine, and after the affect goes away I get sick. Even if they were an option, that isn't a solution, just a prolonged, temporary, circumstantial "fix"

Tip.It Times: 12 July 2009 - Addressing the Anti-Hack Key
l0rd replied to n_odie's topic in General Discussion
I like this week's articles, the overall mood will make for some good opinionated debates and discussion. As for the fictional, yet another great continuation by Zonor. I really enjoyed the pleasant imagery. -
things that didnt made sense to you when you were a kid

Depends how far back you define a "kid". Theoretically, every piece of knowledge I know now was at one point unknown. -
In most moods, I don't especially enjoy chewing gum. I do sometimes chew it for bad breath after meals. Aside from this: [hide=][/hide] Although I would consider Big League Chew more of a dedicated activity than a simple gum chew. I pinch a little bit of it, chew it around 30 times, then spit it out and repeat.

During the summer, much of my waking hours are after sunset, so reading only when it's light out isn't a practical option. But thanks for the opinions, I guess there isn't a panacea or hack for this kind of problem. Although I did encounter some sort of unproved cognitive conditioning for things like this. Supposedly you're supposed to cut up an onion and put it in a jar, and whenever sleep begins to overtake you, simply take a whiff of the jar. You will tear up, but eventually, supposedly, your mind will be trained to not get sleepy after excessive optic nerve use and concentration.

Does anyone else often feel overwhelmingly tired when reading a book you aren't completely engrossed in? Recently, I've been trying to mow my way through some books I am assigned to read this summer for my school, but when I'm not the one who picked out the book, and the book is not all that interesting (and even when it is, often), I get so sleepy that I have to do push-ups or take a nap just to shake it all off. Aside from stimulants, how do I keep myself awake long enough to read a book that I'm not all that interested in for an hour or more. Heck, my whole life, even after reading a book of my choosing for an extended period of time, I'll get sleepy. I am getting enough sleep at night, but if I wanted to I could probably pick up one of my mother's books and end up sleeping for 20 hours in a day: reading then sleeping, reading then sleeping, etc. Does anyone else have this problem, or have any advice on the matter? Should I be in a certain posture, pinch myself every five minutes, or what?

Just stared at it for 5 minutes, I like it! Got a higher resolution version?

Were the adjectives really necessary? Yes, the adjectives help you imagine it happening to yourself, which is great. Why are they sweaty though? D: Those extra adjectives didn't really add any imagery for me, it just made me think of erotic novels. :?

I was going to fill this out, and I'm usually pretty open about volunteering personal information, but I just don't feel publishing all of this information for the world to see and don't see the relevancy in many of these questions. What exactly will this lump of information serve? I'm sure you will find that prejudice is mostly held by those of lesser immaturity or acculturation with other cultures, which will generally be the younger, less-educated audience. But as for what you define as "hostility", I'm not so sure. As in any debates, hostility can be formed if unmitigated by self-awareness, levelheadedness, and impartiality, all of which I wouldn't ascribe to any age group or educational background.

The average cement is 3120 kg/m^3, the standard US oil drum is 159L, or 0.159 m^3. So a barrel full of cement given these numbers would weigh 496.1kg or 1094 pounds. I don't even have to mention that the barrel itself has a bit of weight, and the 100-pound or so anvil. I smell a fib.

Brüno - Just like everyone else, I went and saw this movie. Although hosting some shocking visuals and hilariously inappropriate situations, this movie really lacked the ground that Borat had. As a fan of Cohen's original show featuring this character along with Ali-G and Borat, it has always been my least favorite of the three. Instead of playing dumb and allowing humor to sprout from ignorance and difference in cultures, as in the other two characters, Bruno just acts very self-unaware and flamboyantly homosexual. Along with the stooping of humor from the main character, the film style has also changed; instead of the film being half-centered around the stupidity of the interviewees, this film is focuses too much on Bruno himself. The final verdict is that Borat was better, but I still applaud this movie for Cohen's shameless style.

Sorry, I miscommunicated my thoughts. What I meant to say: "where it lacked, it tried to compensate with A-list actors"

The Grudge III - Although a Hollywood money-milker, I still enjoyed watching this lighthearted bloodbath. This is by far the bloodiest of the Grudge trilogy (although I haven't seen the full second one, and don't remember the intricacies of the first). I did enjoy it though, especially how it explained how the heck Kayako actually became a murderous spirit, and why all murdered wives don't become undead. Needless to say, it wasn't scary, but I do like this trilogy's scare method, relying on cinematography and gradual visuals instead of the sudden screech or flashing lights. Burn After Reading - When I first saw this movie a few months ago, it was something I watched in the background while doing homework. Back then, my overall impression was that it was a so-so-dramatic-comedyish-somewhat-entertaining flick that compensated where it lacked in A-list actors. After watching it again, and giving it my full attention, it was a pretty entertaining and hilarious film. It was written in a truly misanthropic way; as the film went on, it was obvious that the viewer was supposed to hate all of the characters increasingly more for their annoying hobbies, moral standards, hypocrisy, or a plethora of other hate-worthy attributes put on display by these characters. I can't remember the last time I laughed at someone getting shot in the head either. If you catch on to the subtle humor in this film, it is hilarious. Twilight - Yes, I watched it, and I'm a guy. I only watched it because I was curious as to what many of the people (girls) I know think is a movie worthy of watching more than one time in the theater. I went into this movie with the least bit of impartiality one could have, but I don't think that affected my final impression of the movie. It is truly abominable that people like this crap, I really can't believe it. This is the same dreary crap that is on Mexican soap-opera channels 24/7, just muscled-up with a Hollywood budget and a novel that is truly unique in its blandness. I'm a very unprejudiced person, but I have to admit I will subconsciously have less respect for any fan of this movie.

How is an event that deals with people saying speeches and words about Michael while crying and being heartbroken; entertainment? Sick entertainment I guess if you're enjoying watching other people's sorrow. But most of the people were watching it to see what people had to say about him. You can't say that the Michael Jackson service was televised if it wasn't appealing or diverting to watch, thus entertaining. He was accused far after his climax of fame, learn the facts before you start praising him for something he didn't do. But okay, lets say he did get accused of child molestation right after the release of Thriller, I don't see how his fame makes him any more worthy of sympathy.

I will masochistically continue eating it, it makes it deliciously painful. And to un-spam: Posthumous idolization.

I really hate the whole situation where people intend on simply annoying fans and people who would think about what he has done and what happens to his family (as with all deaths one would hear of). Seriously. People can show emotion, if you dont want to, fine be a robot, but because someone wants to care about the death of someone who has entertained millions, went through hard times his whole life and has taken a BUCKETLOAD of crap from paparazzi and the idiots who believe the paparazzi, just let them. That's precisely what I'm talking about, one-sided sympathy and idolization. Michael Jackson had a good life, don't point out the hardships as a point of uniqueness, everyone has them, some exponentially worse than Jackson's.
