  1. I've only gotten two, and I've had most of my tasks in the dungeon. <_< I had one in one abyssal demon task (197, I think), had another task of about the same number with no rings, and I've since gotten 4 of them in a greater demon and abyssal demon task. Overall, it's not a very rare drop, and I think that Jagex's intention with these rings is working: it should be enough for someone who uses Kuradal on a consistent basis to use the rings to get tasks and get to the cave without too much difficulty. If I had to estimate a drop rate, I'd say somewhere between 1/150 and 1/175 (my actual rate is about 1/160, but there's some margin of error). Given that most tasks are about 200 or so, you should be able to get enough ferocious rings to support yourself consistently even with a large number of tasks that aren't done in that dungeon.
  2. Okay, I decided that I'd start a blog just for the hell of it. Might not get too much done in the all too near future, as I have finals coming up, but I figured that I might as well start up a blog. The obligatory about me: I'm 17 and almost at the end of my first semester at college. I go to the University of Michigan, but you're not getting much more info than that out of me. I've played Runescape since Classic (not sure exactly when, but I know I remember when the RS2 beta was first released), became a member sometime not too long after the release of construction (I think), and have taken many hiatuses in the interim. I love combat in this game, Slayer being one of my favorite skills, but I also enjoy some of the noncombat aspects of the game. One of my favorite hobbies is barrowing, as I've probably made most of my fortune there. I'm worth around 130 million with most of it being in combat items. I'm currently level 125 combat with a total level of 1953 (I think) and my membership is running out soon, but considering that finals are soon, that's all for the best. I currently have no real goal in RS -- right now, I'm just playing and doing whatever whenever I decide to do it. Currently: Slaying (Kuradal)
  3. That was mentioned in contrast to the fact that your hiscores aren't updated when you log off due to a system update, so it wasn't really pointless.
  4. Interesting -- I've played since RSC and do not remember ever hearing of that before today. Well, now I know.
  5. I was reading runescape Wiki and ran across this bit of information: "The highscores for a player do update if a player reaches the 6 hour auto-log. " I didn't find any other mention of that on the site, so can anyone clarify to me what exactly this is? I have a suspicion that it simply means that the game logs you out after 6 straight hours of playing, but I don't remember ever hearing of that before. Can anyone clarify what this is and when it came out?
  6. Does anyone have a rough estimate of how often ferocious rings drop? Would it be sustainable to use Ferocious Rings to get tasks and not have to use games necklaces/fairy rings to keep going to Kuradal? Or do they just not drop often enough?
  7. Over 100m in items and 20m in cash. I was surprised -- never thought that I was worth that much. Liquidating quite a bit of it at the moment, though, as I've found that I stockpiled a lot of stuff that I didn't need.
  8. A lot has changed. Most slayers can't live without the new slayer points system and just this week a new slayer master with a rather unique dungeon was released (haven't had much of a chance to check out either, too much to do for school). A lot of skillers can't live without the Stealing Creation minigame, which introduces items that can cut the costs of expensive skills such as crafting, smithing, and construction in half. high level monster hunters now have the God Wars Dungeon, which are very difficult but very rewarding, with items worth millions as potential drops (and all of the bosses can be killed solo, some more easily than others). In addition to what was said above about the godswords, the Armadyl Godsword can add 25% to your attack, which given the already insanely high hits of that weapon gives some of the highest hits in the game. There is also the Corporeal Beast for monster hunters, which last time I checked has 4 rare drops worth 100+million each (but good luck soloing it if you're not maxed out with money to burn and nerves of steel). There's also summoning, which has changed pretty much every aspect of the game. Ask any rabid monster hunter to give up summoning and you'll see from their reaction just how much of a help it is. Those are just the things that jump out at me that haven't been mentioned (or have and I felt like elaborating). The game is quite different from what it was before, but I still love playing it.
  9. What is the best equipment to use to tackle these things? Would the usual Bandos/whip/defender/bunyip work, or is there a better way to kill these things? Are they weak to certain attack styles or something similar that I should know?
  10. Sometimes I go with Barrows -- depending on just how fast I can make my runs, it can be an amazing moneymaker. The only problem is that keeping up speed is very difficult. Your runs need to be almost perfect, and that is a very tall order -- the prohibition of familiars is also a huge obstacle, as you're limited to your equipment and inventory only -- no Beast of Burden or healing familiar, which would help you work miracles. I used to do quite a bit of rune mining, though that's out of reach for most people. Superglass make is good money -- 500-600k an hour along with crafting and magic xp. I also do concentrated gold and monkfish, though those are mostly for the xp rather than the money, but it's a good side effect. Also, do a bunch of small things daily -- battlestaves, unfinished broad bolts, herb farming -- and also MTK and possibly solo merchanting -- these can all make a good amount of money with minimal effort. I have done all of these, but I don't do all of them all the time.
  11. I haven't had too many bad dry streaks, mostly due to the fact that I don't record my drops on a regular basis and therefore never know for sure just how long I have gone without a major drop. I think my worst is ~50 straight barrows runs with nothing better than a half key (and I'm not even sure about that) -- I got sick of barrowing for a while after that and then just mixed in one run a day while doing miscellaneous skills -- I broke the dry streak with Verac's Helm, which was worth ~2m at the time. That's the worst that I remember, though that might be due to my lack of serious boss hunting -- I usually just do a few trips to whatever every now and then, often solo, so I don't have many boss kills (I prefer the challenge to the profit in all honesty)
  12. I'm not sure precisely which one he uses, but the most likely are either Adobe AfterEffects or Sony Vegas. Neither is cheap, so if you're going to get those programs, make sure that you have more of a reason to get it than just RuneScape videos. They're a few hundred dollars each unless you manage to get a really good deal. (Somehow, I knew exactly what you were talking about without even looking at the video.)
  13. Something to add to this mess: If a monster has a drop rate of 1 in X, and you kill it X times, the odds of getting that drop is ~63% (assuming that X is relatively large -- anything over about 20 is high enough), which is quite interesting. Now, that is the chance that you get at least one drop and not exactly one drop of said item. (Interestingly enough, as X increases, the chance of getting that drop in X kills approaches 1-1/e.) To me, that is very interesting, as it proves just how bad of an idea the gambler's fallacy is and shows that, in the short term, the drop rate doesn't mean anything. It'd be interesting to do some computer simulations of something like this -- might come up with some interesting data. It's all down to probability. It will screw with your head. It's complete and total insanity, but the simple fact is that even though the odds are low, as long as they're not 0, anything can happen.
  14. No, but should I? Always, so you're always guaranteed that expensive xp Not exactly. There's an explanation in the AoW guide by Zaaps, but I'll outline what to keep in mind. 1) Only 1 in 10 trees dies unattended. 2) The cost to watch a tree is part of the cost of the xp. 3) Doing the math, therefore, if the cost of the supplies to watch the tree is 10% of the seed price or higher, it's not worth it.
  15. Make sure that you do enough damage to Jad that he's below full hp when you do kill the healers. What I did was use emerald (e) bolts, made sure Jad was poisoned, lured and killed the healers, then took on Jad. He was under full hp due to poison, so the healers didn't come back, and had one less thing to think about.
  16. The most commonly used world is 84. Also, you can check the Mining Golds clan chat -- sometimes they're on different worlds, but it has the same effect.
  17. 1) I'm looking to add an allotment to my farming runs -- which would be the best? 2) I train mining at the concentrated gold rocks. Should I sell the ores and buy bars to use SC hammers on, or should I smelt/superheat the gold ores?
  18. I must've been working off of the wrong numbers, then. I was using some of Qeltar's numbers and found the xp from there -- maybe I wasn't using the best method that he had listed there. I haven't timed my experience myself, so I have no personal experience with it. That seems a little high to me, though -- 1k ores an hour? What, exactly, will get you those rates? EDIT: http://runescoop.com/html/rs_MMMiningConcentratedGoldXH.htm Going off of the number there (695 gold ore an hour), 695*65=45175 xp/hr. Now, I'm not saying that Qeltar is the king of efficiency or anything, but I can't see how you'd get too much more than he did. You're telling me that you can get about 144% of what he does -- explain to me how this is done.
  19. From some calculations I've seen, it can max out at 40-some k xp/hr. Each ore is worth slightly less xp than a willow log, but overall it comes out lower than willows as far as I can tell. It's somewhere around the rate of Eucalyptus logs, but slightly slower.
  20. Check out Living Rock Caverns. Concentrated gold rocks allow for fast mining xp with minimal attention -- I severely doubt that it will go up anywhere near 500 again. It's great for miners who don't like powermining and want to be able to train in a similar way to training woodcutting and fishing (which is a very large number of them). From there, it's simple supply and demand.
  21. Use good melee defence gear (shield instead of defender if you have a good shield), take a super set with you, have a bunyip summoned, and take about 16-20 monkfish. Kill the Goraks, eating as needed, super potting if your skills get down low enough. You'll get a ton of gems and a few half keys. If your inventory fills up, run out and bank at Zanaris, grabbing more food. This is actually a very easy task, you just take a good deal of damage. Guthan's set is unnecessary since the bank is so close. Just go back for more food when you need it.
  22. Hit the nail on the head there. Dropping and excessive clicking drive me insane (see the fact that I've gained two mining levels since that blog I had ever so long ago), so I try to use the best methods that avoid that. Dropping also seems wasteful. Yes, it has been a while. I'm not back for good, I don't think -- college probably won't let me. I'm not entirely sure what to do about fishing -- Shilo seems good, but I don't know what level I should do that until -- I know that I want to go after rocktails eventually, but I don't know exactly when switching over to them would be a good idea. Should I switch right at 90, or wait longer? Concentrated gold is amazing -- decent money and almost afk mining experience -- would've really come in handy when I was going for 85, but I'm glad we have it now.
  23. Okay, I was going to do some calculations about the efficiency of using SC tools, but I'm missing some rates. I need to know how many of different things can be made in an hour. Oak larders Oak dungeon doors 1 bar smithing items 2 bar smithing items 3 bar smithing items 5 bar smithing items Dragonhide bodies I'd prefer to know the number of items made per hour, but if you can give me the xp rates, that is also helpful, just means that I need to do a bit more calculating.
