  1. The Germans remember the wars, and teach about them extensively as to avoid repetition of them in the future. That Family guys just a joke for anyone wondering, it's the farthest away from the truth you can possibly get :P . The Japanese... eh, they still like their denial and elitism.
  2. And I agree. But this isn't about anecdotal evidence, but the mathematical reasoning behind each. We're not arguing that they've visited Earth, just that the odds that there is other [intelligient] life in the universe is as close to 100% as you can get. Ghosts, on the other hand, have no proof as of yet, and because of their supernatural base there is no way to mathematicaly analyze the probability that they exist somewhere in the universe. Therein lies the problem with comparing the two. Why? The odds are staggering. No need to childishly clutch on to dogma until you see everything with your own eyes. If you did that, you'd never learn, or at least you'd learn very slowly and only from your own experiences.
  3. I believe that the odds that there isn't [intelligient] life in another part of the universe are so low that any and all form of logic speaks to say that we are not alone in the universe.
  4. If you can name the day, or even the week, that you quit, you didn't quit. You just stopped playing. Trust me, there comes a time when the game just dies for everyone, though it varies a great deal among different players. Sometimes people are just too rash and try to quit before then. Well, a lot of the time, actually, which is why so much of the time people who "quit" end up coming back. If he doesn't find the game fun, and quit for reasons beyond a simple fast burnout (an occurence that happened to me many a time when I played), then don't bother. It's not going to get him back in the game for half an hour before he feels an incessent urge to log of as fast as possible.
  5. This is the stupidest, most juvenile post I've read in awhile. Gtfo... Oh, and dont call other players "noobs" in your sig when your level 92 combat either. Hypocrisy is humorous, no?

Ya, I thought she was younger, like Tom's little sister (15ish or so). Now it seems like she's gaining six months a panel. Seriously, how much older does she look in that picture? Might just be the angling, but it's like she got three years older since the last time we saw her.
  7. Okay, so you can hold a Stage 4 opinion. Let's shoot for 5, m'kay? Same goes for half the people on this thread.
  8. Eh, about the documentary? No information or counterargument that isn't already over a year old. I kinda stopped caring about Al Gore in 2000, so I havn't felt any real need to bash him or his documentary. I don't really hate either side of the debate, I just hate any form of dogma on either side. That, or overuse of pathos on the "man-made Global warming" side (ugh, wish that would end, frikkin' finger pointing and holier than thou speeches from that side of the debate). I would count the Nobel Prize being offered to one side as a reinforcement of dogmatic opinions, so I'm not exactly a fan of Al Gore, or anyone for that matter in this overly political "scientific" debate, getting it for that reason.

It's a Em-attraction ploy. Emily hasn't had any incentive in a long time (not since Cassiel) to make a move on Ash. This need for an incentive stems from the fact that she feels insecure about her sexuality when she thinks about her relationship with Ash, so unless she has some reason, she doesn't want to try getting involved with female version Ash. And yet, she still wants to get involved, thus if someone else starts getting closer to Ash, she feels a stronger incentive to make a move, and quicker. You know, protect her turf and whatnot. Basically, regarding their relationship the introduction of the Chinese girl is parallel to the introduction of Cassiel. (1) Girl appears like she could be attracted to Ash, (2) the [wrong] information gets to Emily, and (3) Emily reacts in an uncharacteristly rash way. Most likely, her action is going to be a bit more significant than a simple confirmation phone call, if you know what I mean :-w . Understand? Yes, I jabber monotonously, I know, tell me if you need a translation. Anyone want to bet cookies for or against me? We don't even know what Ash is going to say in reponse to the the Chinese girl yet, so there's still a good chance I could be wrong. Anyone, anyone? :P
  10. Eh, at least we know that the Nobel Prize is going to lead to more scrupulous examination of his documentary, with more proliferation of the information countering his arguments. An Inconvenient Truth definitely needs a little more of that .

Well, if this isn't just about boredom and throwing some [more] Yuri into the comic, I'm pretty sure I know what the reason behind this new character addition is (the Chinese chick anyways, the car-psycho is still beyond me), and what it's going to lead to in this arc of the comic ^_^.
  12. Ah, I'm starting to lose the spark myself -_-'. Only been an OT'er a few months, but my will to debate is starting to die pretty fast >_<.
  13. I'd say pretty much every player in the game, but that's just me.
  14. Okay, we get it, you think capitalism has flaws (though your logic that at least one person involved in each trade has to suffer is quite risible, considering that the trading of goods and services itself is what gets people the money to survive and live healthy lives). Yet, in comparison to other economic systems, capitalism has time and time again been shown to be the best method. Honestly, what are you arguing? Do you have a better idea than capitalism, and if so can you defend it rather than attack? Or are you trying to argue that everything has to be perfect, that everyone has to live perfectly equally, with no realistic idea of how to bring about this utopia?
  15. Er, we're not exactly going to be waging war over fossil fuels any time soon, or ever, especially with all the amount that's left buried in the ground, but too expensive currently to get out [ex].
  16. EVERYTHING IN THE GAME TAKES TIME. That statement backs up your argument in absolutely no way, shape, or form. Nor has any argument on this thread that I've seen (arguments, which sadly are composed of merely the two statements "they're just jealous" and "it's 99, respect it"). Please, someone tell me, how is setting a "Respect Bar" at 99 for every skill logical? That bar is at different levels for each skill, at varying quantities of time spent and qualities of work required for the difficulty of the skill. For it to be logical, to respect 99 Fletching and Cooking Capes, it would also be required of the giver of respect to honor the work all players put into anything that takes two weeks, whatever that may be for each skill. Why respect 99 Fletching, but not 45 Herblore? They take about the same time to achieve, the same amount of difficulty, so why not? Why is 99 Cooking on a pedestal, when certain other skill levels that take the same amount of work are given little to know respect at all? Anyone care to respond? Had enough with the same ol' one liner jargon for the past four pages, let's hear some in depth defense from the other side.
  17. Magic, definitely. Now Fullmetal Alchemist is the only kind of Alchemy I can stand.
  18. Why? If that's true, we should acknowledge everything of that caliber. That's two weeks of work. Do you think anyone cares enough about other players that they'd respect every two weeks of work each player did? Should we respect everyone with 50 Slayer? Everyone with 40 Runcrafting? 60 Construction? Other random educated skill levels utilized to support my point? No one's care cup is big enough to care about every little two weeks of work people did, even if that two weeks of work grants the player some pretty cape. [if a current player would be so kind to point out how many levels one can get in each skill in two weeks, I'd be greatful for the numbers.] And yes, I don't have a 99. Thus, by your logic, every point I make is derived from the opinionated fact that I'm a jealous ch00b, regardless of whether or not I play the game or care about the assets of players. But I'd be frikkin' baffled if anyone were so arrogant as to say that 99 Fletching or Cooking is harder to get than 94 Magic, even if it isn't a 99. Respect should be based on the difficulty and time spent gaining something, not some invisible 99 bar that's irregular with the premise that quality and quantity of hard work and respect should be proportional.

    That he doesn't.
  20. We all hate Gore in the same way that we hate Paris Hilton. No need to discuss it.
  21. I do not disrespect your cape, but simply your act of demanding respect. Of which there is a hell of a lot of on this thread.
  22. Thanks Solidus, saved me the time of posting that, and even more time in trying to type it as brilliantly and calmly as you did : . So, for the sake of brevity and lazyness, here is my point:
  23. It won't come when you've achieved all your goals, but when you've lost the drive to both finish goals and create new ones. Does anyone have documented anecdotal data of this method working? :-k I've been an advocate for it for a long time, but I'm not sure if the method of suppressing the desire to play by playing less each day is empirically backed up. Completely agree with your first point- people don't quit from addictions, the most they get from that is a short break : . Of like... three days. That's exactly how it goes. Except in the cases where they find World of Warcraft. I doubt that. Boredom will most likely be the cause, at least for a permanent quitting of the game. You'll lesson your playing in Scenario 1 (if you're a responsible person), and Scenario 2 could work, but I don't believe it's all that likely to lead to permanently quitting in comparison to the cause of boredom. Anyone here quit permanently for a reason other than boredom or finding another, more fun MMORPG? It'll help my understanding of the general player process if I can get more data on the subject, as my personal anecdote is merely one example of how to quit, and thus not completely trustworthy for creating an objective opinion.
  24. When it hurts to play for more than fifteen minutes at a time. I go insane after the first three, but fifteen should be a decent bar.

Sure, power is shifting away from Europe and towards East Asia [india and China] over time, but, eh, the Chinese might have a little problem in the future with the whole five-billion guys-to-every-chick thing :-w .
