How about stopping a crazed gunman? That seems like a pretty good reason to me. If even one person in that theatre had a gun there would probably be 1\5 of the casualties that there actually were. Or double the casualties. In a dark room filled with smoke and panicking people the hero would have almost certainly hit another person.

If you're going to donate money then it shouldn't be with the expectance of "getting something back". If Kiva's entire program is based on the donaters getting their money back then it's actual charity work is probably going to be subpar.

My cousin is pissing me right the hell off so as soon as I find out her phone's passcode I'm going to change it to something else. I don't see how changing policies (gun control or mental healthcare) is going to fix anything. If a person really wants to go out on a murdering spree then he'll find a way, with or without guns. Changing mental healthcare definitely isn't going to stop anything because in most of these situations nobody even knew the killer had a problem.
