Extracting audio from a video (answered)
darkblade986 replied to darkblade986's topic in Tech and Computers
I remember that site. I used to use it for FLV -> AVI conversion. That thing can do AVI -> MP3? -
Alright, so basically I found this movie and I want to try and pull the audio from it and get rid of the video. I've already got the movie downloaded and in a workable format (AVI, if it matters). Is there a way in Windows Movie Maker to remove the video and have just the audio (such that I could save it as a .wav or mp3?) or can anyone suggest a program that could record the audio without any interference that would result from recording with an external microphone?

Monster Drops Rally
darkblade986 replied to Ard_Choille's topic in Achievements (Drops, Bank Pictures and Levels)
This would be my first dragon drop... Ever... And boy ain't it a good one? I believe this warrants coming into here for once... [hide=Warning - large image, but major w00t!][/hide] -
Alright, I'll get that information in. Would you happen to have the information for the other POH monsters then?

If you have all the information we need to add them in, then by all means, go ahead and put it here. I'll get in touch with Ginger and we can talk about revising our decision. And fyi, the Baby Red Dragon -2- (that would go in a POH) hasn't been deleted; I simply removed it from view for the time being while it's determined what we will do. -

Now hold on... If it exists only in your POH, I believe our policy on that is that the Bestiary won't have any POH monsters... None of the other POH monsters are in the Bestiary unless they already existed outside of it, and if I recall, we never made any attempt to put them in because we felt they were more suited to be part of the construction guide rather than the Bestiary. -

The level 65 dragon doesn't have drops? Not even the baby dragon bones? -
You guys all assume that Jagex wouldn't do something like base a calculation on whether you have run on or not, but what is your basis for this? What precedent can you cite that all activities cannot have a factor related to a minor detail? In addition, where can you cite precedent that Jagex won't create abstract comparisons to make things work? This is not your game to decide what is right or wrong or what can or can't happen. If Jagex wants to say Speed = Failure, then there is nothing that says they can't do that. It's called creativity. For example: What precedent was set that said that the Hero's Quest and Legend's Quest should not be allowed to use completely unrelated quests as prerequisites for the start? The Biohazard storyline only used quests before it in the story or directly related to how the quest worked, therefore all further quests should work in a similar manner because it has been done. Hero's quest: Shield of Arrav involved assigning gang members to get specific items (related); Lost City involved finding a hidden fairy colony using a specific staff made from a tree found only on Entrana, which could be accessed before the quest regardless, thus allowing for access to the Entrana Fire Bird (unrelated); Merlin's Crystal involved finding the sword Excalibur to shatter a crystal (unrelated); Dragon Slayer involved slaying a dragon to become a full member of the Champion's Guild (story line continuation; related). Legend's quest: Hero's quest (story line continuation; related); Family Crest involved finding 3 brothers and performing tasks to obtain pieces to a crest to restore a family member's honor (unrelated); Shilo Village involved helping a tribe rid themselves of an undead presence (related ONLY by location); Underground pass involved navigating a large cavern in an attempt to find the elven province (unrelated); Waterfall quest involved finding some mythical treasure discovered by a little boy (unrelated). But according to the precedent set by all quests from before that had any kind of prerequisite quest, they must be related in some way due to how the quest functions (such as Mourning's End Part I needing Big Chompy Bird Hunting for the frogs) or because it is a story line continuation. However, Lost City, Merlin's Crystal, Family Crest, Shilo Village, Underground Pass and the Waterfall quest all were completely unrelated to either the Hero's or Legend's quest. Precedent set; Precedent shattered. What's to say that they now want to combine Running (Agility) with thieving? In essence, they are almost a requirement for each other (can't steal from someone if you're not agile enough to get away). Precedent was set for the use of agility and thieving together when the H.A.M. dungeon and the Rogue's den came out. So saying that Jagex would never do something like this just because the idea sounds stupid in and of itself makes the person who said such a thing look foolish for not giving Jagex credit for thinking outside the box. [/small rant] I will admit that only 10 data points is a bit small for an accurate sample, but this simply helps him to (attempt to) establish a hypothesis. All that needs to be done now is increase the sample size and adjust the method for more consistency. Increase each trip's urn attempts to 30 (or more, if possible), and repeat it 50 or so times for each. Alternate between the use of run and not using it so that it can't be blamed on a streak of luck. This would also allow for consistent data across changing thieving levels assuming that he leveled up during the test. From there, bring back the results for analysis and we can decide whether they are believable or not. That comparison of an average of 2 more fails could be significant depending on what the person is doing. Many people use Super Energy potions for things like Rune Crafting, and even though I've never done Pyramid Plunder, if the energy drain that occurs as a result of its use would dictate the use of Energy potions, then this number could become significant. If you were to try 1000 urns, then this means that you should fail approximately 2000 times more than someone else who is not running. When we get to the higher numbers, that becomes quite significant. I believe that his data currently shows a possibility, and with refining, he might stumble upon a breakthrough.

New Mining Animation = Slower Rune Ess?
darkblade986 replied to chaosfox's topic in RuneScape Suggestions
There has been no change. The old animation got you an essence every three hits (Rune Pickaxe). The new animation did it a little more eradically, but the timing was still the same. The animation has nothing to do with the timing of the essence because that is a fixed time. All it means is that in the effort to create realism, the hits on the rock may not perfectly line up with the swings of your axe. -
1) I believe these are redundant and that the one at 23.13E does not exist 2) Both images link to the 23.15E picture.

I think this has to do with the "attack speed" of the monster. Summoning Familiars have a incredibly long delay between attacks (I know this because I've taken my Spirit Graahk to the Chaos Tunnels with me, and I get at least 3 Whip attacks off for every one of his...), so the delay between selecting the activation and it actually being used could be similar to like when you switch from a Dragon Dagger to a Godsword (where the Godsword will take it's first hit within the timeframe that the Dragon Dagger would've hit next) or vice versa (where the Dragon Dagger will not attack until the Godsword would have next attacked). I'm sure it's supposed to be a balancing issue of sorts, but I agree that that the "lag" it has is absolutely horrendous. At the very least, they need to program NPCs like Familiars and Pets to be able to run with you...

As I was running from the Demonic Ruins back to Clan Wars for a clue scroll, I tried to use my Games Necklace at level 30 wilderness (I thought jewelry could do that). The teleport fizzled, obviously, but at that same time, I got "Wooo... Wooo...Wooo..." in my chat box... Is a ghostspeak amulet required for these things?

Not necessarily a "Noobs say the funniest things" but "Noobs do the stupidest things..." Long story short... someone made a 100M drop party... And I fell for it... Needle, thread, and leather...

Thought Jagex didn't like 3rd party things?
darkblade986 replied to Jard_Y_Dooku's topic in General Discussion
They don't like you using third party clients to help you in game. If they trust one, that's a different thing. Besides, because they put it in, it's technically still first party. -
Next Achievement diary sooner than expected?
darkblade986 replied to fastknight20's topic in General Discussion
Bob's axe hut also has one in Lumbridge. It's on the world map as well. I almost wanted to call the one near the north of Al Kharid part of it too, but that's from the Varrock diary, so it isn't part of it. Unless they hid the third one on another level (like maybe it's Sedridor in the Wizard's Tower), then they're not telling us who the third person is going to be. I would imagine Bob would be the Easy person and Ned would be the Medium person simply because of their uses (Bob is used for trivial things, like repairing your axe and Ned is used for a relatively easy quest by members standards). Also, remember that Varrock already got a diary of it's own. I'd reckon that this is just supposed to be a Lumbridge / Draynor area diary. -
Don't trust the Knowledge Base explicitly. We never use the knowledge base to confirm facts when we add them to our guides because it is quite possible (and more often then you might think) for it to be wrong. For example, if you look under the Slayer Skill - Slayer Master article, it lists Sumona as requiring 100+ Combat and 50+ slayer, however we have many reports of people getting tasks from her well below 100 combat and/or 50 slayer, and the in-game skill list even shows her as needing only 35 Slayer.

About the only perfect update that I could think of would be Jagex announcing that they had created a virus that would destroy any computer used by someone who would complain about an update (can't complain publicly without a computer, can you?). If I had to pick one update that I think was perfect, I would say I probably couldn't. Almost any update can be argued against in one way or the other. From a skiller: It's too combat heavy! From a combat pure: It's too skill-based! From a low-level: It's too high leveled! From a high-level: It's too low level! For low-levels: It's not worth it! For high-levels: It's too hard! / It's not good enough! For all: We want updates for us only! / Why should they get an update!? The only update that I think might be perfect would be the upcoming graphical ones, and that's because it's not any content change. Rather, it only affects appearances.

Law Runes would be the best thing you could craft now that you don't need to do a quest for it. I'd say that'd probably be it, either using Amulets of Glory to Draynor Bank or the Balloons to Castle Wars and back to Entrana.

[Suggestion] Topic Preview
darkblade986 replied to Barihawk's topic in Forum Updates and Suggestions
For those who are confused, I believe the true term for what is being suggested is called a "ToolTip." Basically, this is the little white box with some text in it that appears for a few seconds when it hovers over a link. Examples of them can be seen if you hover over one of the smilies in the Post a Reply window or hovering over the Post a Reply button on the forums. Given, that one only appears for about a second, but I'm pretty sure it's possible to extend the time that it will remain (to either a few seconds or until the mouse moves again) so that you can read it. I would recommend restricting it to like 200 characters (or 255, to keep it even with binary restrictions) so that it doesn't flood over. -
It hit me while I was in the middle of killing a Waterfiend... I just hope that if anything goes wrong, my ring of life will still work... :o

Updated, however proof of the following would be nice. Snapegrass (20) Mithril Ore (4) DB986: self confirmed; got myself Vial of Water (9) Death (19) -
My analogy on the situation: Those rioters are basically rioting at the base of a 10 story building, where there are 50 snipers on top of said building who can and will take them out at any time they want (the snipers being Jagex, of course). I don't see why people think rioting will help. Jagex is a multi-million dollar business, regardless of which country your in or what currency you use. If you want to make Jagex listen, you need a lot more than 50 people; you'd need to get the whole server rioting, and several servers at that.
