  1. Agreed. I think it needs to be stressed that the only importance of the age 13 is that under that age, you shouldn't be on forums, period (isn't there a law?). Instead, people should see it as something suited for minors or not.
  2. 13+ How many times does this need to be said? Semantics. G-rated implies parents are fine with the content. A mature issue, such as homosexuality, isn't something that you can rate PG-13 or G. It's just an issue. Don't let the wording of this get to your head. Really a line has been drawn. Content is either suited for minors or not. Now admins are cracking down on content not suited for minors.
  3. You didn't read my reply then. G rated does not imply kiddie. When I read the "ever been caught" thread, I felt like it I was in a forum filled with preteens posting every ridiculous story they've ever heard just because they've never had the opportunity to discuss them before. And that's what felt kiddie to me. Heck, if the members on the hello kitty forum are mature and care about issues I care about, I wouldn't mind posting there. It's about the environment here - not what is or isn't censored. So dont read the threads you dont like, a bit simple. If only it were that simple. Again, my last sentence. It's about the environment. When mature content was allowed, the whole board degraded. It brought in people that were only attracted to OT in the first place because of one or two threads. So it's not an issue of ignoring one or two threads. It's about having the board being G-rated, yet mature. Don't you think we owe it to parents who think their children are on a G-rated forum?
  4. Weird isn't it? Also Adam, I'm not saying this should be like /b/, but not saying it should be like this either: http://forumus.sanriotown.com/ You didn't read my reply then. G rated does not imply kiddie. When I read the "ever been caught" thread, I felt like it I was in a forum filled with preteens posting every ridiculous story they've ever heard just because they've never had the opportunity to discuss them before. 5. I'm not going to respond point by point to each of those, because to me, it's really one matter of principal. This country was founded on individual freedom. In the extremely unlikely event that our country becomes a big-brother 1984 state, as an example, our founders wrote the constitution so we can bring freedom back to the people. Regardless of whether or not I'm an innocent civilian, there are limits to what I think the government should know about me. I'm not personally effected by wiretappings or any of what I listed, but I know it's too far. I know it's not the right direction for this country.
  6. Am I taking this out of context? Goodbye Abyssal? It's always been clear what you want from these forums. And I just don't think this is the place for you. The forum isn't becoming kiddie or anything. In fact, it should get more mature. Because when you're immature and you're talking about mature stuff, you just come off as being even more immature. This forum has always been family friendly but mature. Admins are just trying to keep it that way.
  7. The mature obviously wasn't working when the "caught them" thread was the most popular thread for weeks. Putting up "mature" in the title can't suddenly mean anything goes. I think that's the lesson learned, and the reason for this. The board was given that leeway, but it just didn't work. Things got too explicit and out of hand. @penguin: I think G-rating is more of a message they're trying to get across. PG content is obviously allowed, but we'd just be getting into semantics if we started analyzing what's G, what's PG, what's PG-13. G basically means parents are fine with the content.
  8. I know your question is more about forgiveness, but medical schools are an exception. When you have such a large pool of applicants, you're going to filter out people with criminal records because there are always equally deserving people without them. But in general, should someone be forgiven if they've done service afterward? It's too hard to tell. Community service can sometimes just be hours of work that aren't necessarily representative of a person's character. In this guy's case, he knew he had to make up for what he did with community service. Knowing he had a chance of getting turned down for what he did, he tried compensating. It either just wasn't enough, or med schools just don't want people who ever had a record, regardless of how they've made up for it.
  9. Nicely put. I think this thread should also be a place of discussion for what is and isn't allowed too. The policy is most mature topics are still allowed, right? We can still have G-rated conversation about most mature topics without getting explicit. What's important right now though is getting the boards cleaner feeling it seems.
  10. They don't need evidence... Where do you draw the line with what you don't mind the government doing? What happens when it finally effects you? It might start by slowly inconveniencing you, but what's going to stop government from continuing to make moves like this? A lot of these replies may seem over the top in principal to you, but to see where a lot of us are coming from, please give 1984 a read. It's really worth it, and it might just change the way you think about things. There really has to be a line on this though. Since 9-11, we've had so many freedoms taken away. 2003: Patriot Act. Government is now allowed to search our homes without warrants and have access to information such as library checkouts. 2006: Military Commissions Act. Habeus corpus is suspended for the first time since the civil war. Government can now detain you from your house. 2007: NSA Warrantless Wiretapping. Telecommunication corporations gave the government phone records and government can now legally monitor phone calls. 2008: FISA Amendments Act. Signed into law 3 days ago. Granted immunity to telecommunication companies from lawsuits over past actions. Increased allotted time of wireless surveillance from 48 hours to 1 week without a warrant. Where does it stop?
  11. What I love about SS games are that they are so simple, so intuitive, that you don't have to think about what you're pressing. You can turn off cheap items and strip everything down to a video game's purest form: pure skill, which to me, is pure fun. You're really pitting the wit, reflexes, and timing of one person against another, and most other video games can't match that intensity.
  12. I haven't runecrafted in ages so the high prices don't effect me. I just think back to what I used to pay for em, and know something's off. You won't lose any money because you're crafting those essences into nats. You might not make as big a profit, but you're still making a profit.
  13. I thought you were being sarcastic at first. I guess you're fine with the wiretapping they've been authorized to do on all our phones too, as well as abolishing habeus corpus. We're not terrorists, so for all we care, let em install surveillance cameras with speakers on every corner, have police watch us from them, and if we act out, let em shock us. Because we'll never have to act out since the government is always looking out for our best interests. Part of the constitution was written out so that if the government gets out of control, we have the responsibility to revolt. We need to keep some power and privacy in the people's hands. I know I exaggerated to make a point, but once we give them one freedom, it's a slippery slope.
  14. 1:FTP never had pure essence. 2:Jagex wants people to become members, this is a pretty good way of doing that. 3:There is no 3. Mysterious! 1. Regular rune essence was basically pure essence until they split it into two, giving f2p the downgrade. 2. Regardless of what makes sense for getting more members, jagex should have a balanced game. There have been many occasions where jagex gave f2p something p2p once had - it's clear they do value balance even when it means they sacrifice a member-enticing feature. 3. Touche. Pure essence is already overpriced. Either way, it's not like there's that much money to be lost, and as a raw material, if you craft your pure essence, you still get the same value. Jagex could give a 2-week warning any way to prevent a sudden price change too.
  15. Read here: http://www.washingtontimes.com/weblogs/ ... r-peanuts/ I'm not much into posting news articles and discussing them, but I'd like to discuss the idea of this. I first saw it on my local news. After being shocked at the idea, I checked online for more information. Before I give my own opinion, I'll quickly explain what this 'safety bracelet' is for those who want to skip the read. Meant for U.S. airlines, it replaces your boarding pass. It stores your information, contains a GPS, and using EMD (Electro-Musclar Disruption) technology, is meant shock unruly passengers, as well as terrorists. The first thing that came to my head was how ironic this seems, calling it a safety bracelet. You can make the argument that it may prevent terrorism, but how many liberties do we need to sacrifice in the name of terrorism? First we only need to wear them in airports, then out of necessity for our security, we suddenly need to wear them everywhere? Not to sound too '1984,' but would we really want our government knowing where we are, being able to get our information, and being able to shock us like we're wearing a dog collar at any time? I know the idea may seem well-intentioned, but I just don't like where this technology could head. I'm hoping they don't bring these to airlines any time soon.
  16. Lion King: Circle of life, Hakuna Matata, I just can't wait to be king, lion sleeps tonight Aladdin: Never had a friend like me, Prince Ali, A whole new world Go through this list of top 100 Disney songs too: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/countdown3/index4.htm Edit: Thanks for making me google that - I've been spending awhile now listening to a good portion of that list on youtube reliving all of those movies, lol.
  17. no it would be the same exact thing that happened when they made it rune essence and pure essence. found out that the update was in april of 06.... sheeeeeesh. i remember when that happened. i was like mehh. no big deal hardly affects me at all. i hate rcing anyway. now i'm on a forums discussing it. How's that the same? I'm suggesting jagex makes it so f2p can once again mine pure essence, but 10% of the essence they do mine is randomly impure so impure essence doesn't become discontinued. I remember that update too. Since I already was satisfied with my RC level before it, I wasn't effected. I still wasn't happy with the update though just off principal. I bought a lot of essence before the change too, figuring they'd probably go up in price.
  18. How can you be glad an innocent kid is dead? I'm not saying this specifically to you because there are other posts like it on this thread. But there's nothing good about someone dying. Darwin awards push it pretty far, but some people can be pretty inhumane. Like someone else said, just because someone did something stupid doesn't mean they deserve to die. I might expect to read things like that on anonymous sites, but come on. Aside from a few exceptions, nobody deserves to die.
  19. This has probably already been brought up, but let me know if it hasn't. Essence prices are at record highs, making runecrafting much less profitable than it used to be. Running natures used to be a great moneymaker, but it no longer is. Because of the rune essence update created awhile ago to deal with bots and RWT, pure essence is only p2p and costs much more than it should. Now, since RWT and bots are mostly eliminated, why not bring pure essence back to f2p? This will bring down essence prices and make runecrafting more of a useful moneymaking skill again. Make it so 10% or so of all pure essence mined turns out to be impure essence so we don't have a discontinued item on our hands, and we have fixed much of the problem. As an added bonus, f2p players have a better moneymaking method. If nobody has heard this suggestion before, I ask and give permission to any member (I unsubscribed a few months ago) to post this on the official forums.
  20. yup and make a new discontinued item called rune essence Not a good idea to make it discontinued, but maybe make it so like 10% of the essence you mine is impure.
  21. Didn't they split rune essence in two types because of RWT? Since that's no longer an issue, I agree with you. They should revert all future essence mined in f2p pure essence again. That could solve a few problems.
  22. Thanks alot. : But in all honesty, and please correct me if I'm wrong... the only people hurt were degenerate gamblers? #-o Eh, I wouldn't go that far. Regardless of how degenerate they were, two wrongs don't make a right. I wouldn't make the assumption that there is anything wrong with a staker though. Regardless of who you are, it still sucks to lose money under false pretenses.
  23. You're not talking to me are you? I was defending you, but my tone must have not come across right. I'll agree your money isn't legitimate, but I wouldn't make that real life comparison, even as an analogy. By the way, is this TIF account a front for your real one?
  24. You've understood the thread, I presume. Bravo. -.- Anyway, I don't know if you should be given a second chance. Here you've admitted to breaking numerous rules, scamming, and the like. It feels like a serial killer who stole my car, torched my house, and came after my puppy is begging me for a second chance. I just don't know. Forgiveness is one thing, but if the PKers got wind of your existence (one of the people that changed their "Wilderness")... Look, if you want to come back, that's up to you, but if you don't learn from your past, you're going to be doomed to repeat it. Ah nice, comparing the guy to a serial killer... To me, it sounds like you're worried you can't change. I don't think you need a new character to prove that. If you feel like you're logging on an illegitimate account every time you sign on, go ahead, start a new one. But it sounds like you're looking for answers where there aren't any. If you want to feel like you make things right, try spending time helping people out in whatever way you can. Starting a new character just seems more symbolic than anything, and I doubt it will be anything more than a waste of time.
