I've written up my story a few times but can't find it right now. I doubt too many people will bother reading something lengthy so I'll try to keep it short. edit: Not short, having finished. But I hope you read it, because I feel I offer a pretty unique and interesting perspective. :) I started playing around 2002-2003 shortly after tutorial island came out. I had the usual fun times leveling as a newb stage, then found my calling as a merchant. Back then, merchanting was really different. The way I did it was pretty mundane to begin with. I mass bought arrows switching worlds for a few gp each, and sold thousands at a time for like 30gp each. Once I had a few hundred thousand gp (keep in mind, back then, that was a considerable amount of money), I bought a green mask. Compare the 250k it cost me then to whatever green masks are worth now for a relative comparison. Granted they were less rare, but money was valued completely differently. I then merchanted masks until I had a set. I merchanted santa hats and masks for awhile, but became bored. Then I shifted gears yet again. I borrowed a party hat from a friend and merchanted that. Then I could afford my own party hat, and used the two to make a lot of money fast. One morning I felt like logging on before school and in a drowsy state got scammed in a trade for a huge half my net worth loss. I had to work awhile to regain the worth of my friends party hat, gave him it back, and then gave up merchanting for awhile. Then something interesting happened. Party hats got duplicated. Initially I was hesitant to buy some until I heard they probably wouldn't get deleted. I traded a drag medium (worth 2.1mil) for a purple party hat which I still have to this day. I also got a green and blue party hat pretty cheap. I merchanted a lot during this time and owned 3 party hats. To this day I have 4, so to people who wonder why I have such a high networth, it's a pretty simple story. That and I won a green party hat in a drawing on my birthday one year. :) Anyway, merchanting got boring again. I didn't want to sell my party hats because they kept gaining more and more worth. By this time other things had caught my interest in runescape. I had founded my own clan I co-lead (the elite fellowship), and got involved with the scapeboard/tip it community. After my clan disbanded, I joined Corruption. That was fun for awhile, and I made a lot of friends through it. However, they raised requirements up too high, and I lost interest in pk'ing eventually so I left. Wanting to feel a sense of community again, I created along with Duke Freedom a forum called RGE - the runescape goods exchange. This board was meant for runescape merchanters to post their merchanting tricks and to trade rares primarily. I never lost interest in the economy throughout this time, and Duke and I became great friends discussing the economy. Once rs2 came along, party hats hit rock bottom. Both of us were really interested in the economy at this time, and made some interesting moves because really the market was devoid of other merchanters. Duke seized this moment and took his claim to fame as runescape's first billionaire. We both launched a new site, the runescape monopoly, meant as a 'clan' of merchanters to talk about the runescape economy and offer tips. By this time I had been playing for quite some time. I did all the quests and got my skills up to around 60-70, the highest I could tolerate. I had joined the TET awhile back, and was enjoying that. However, our boards we made were becoming inactive. We both at this point got accepted as tip it staff here. I worked on the site crew, mostly with misplacedme where he transferred the bestiary to me. I had worked under Eeeeediot for awhile, then he transferred leadership to Kiara Kat. Shortly after that because of college and a combination of other things, I left the crew, and a year later, left TET. I had enjoyed working on the bestiary, but wanted to do something different. Again talking with Duke Freedom, I had the idea of a site similar to Digg but runescape related. This became the editorial section of runehead. We ended up recruiting some of the best minds the community of runescape had to offer. Eeeeediot and KS Jeppe headed this project, working closely with Duke and I. Eventually after looking at traffic statistics, it turned out the work we were doing was just too much. The project became too much like the tip it times Eeeeediot had created earlier, and we all became too busy to really transform it into the initial vision we shared. I didn't want the team Duke and I helped assemble to dissipate, so I helped transfer it over to the editorial team we have now. I helped lead this for a few weeks, but realized after my initial leadership there was only so much more I could do in shaping the project. I decided to leave because I didn't play enough to write much up anymore. At this point I had just left the TET and editorial board on TIF. I still frequently posted on the boards, but because of college, gradually stopped playing runescape. After additions such as the GE and trade restrictions, runescape just was no longer the same game to me. Everything I had enjoyed about the game in it's early stages had been removed. One of the things that tied runescape together for me as an interesting game was the free economy. From predicting and discussing economic trends, managing TET funds, slave auctions, and drop parties as TET treasurer, trading and lending rares, a core of the game was removed. I enjoyed the free market, and once jagex took control, I no longer felt like runescape was the same game I enjoyed. The economy wasn't the only thing the game offered for me, but the small core that initially drew me in was removed. Sure, the graphics are great now, the skills have become more fun and fast to level, but this removal of what the game used to be in combination with my lack of time attending the University of Michigan caused me to abandon runescape save for holiday events and random logins. I still post on TIF and enjoy this community. I still follow runescape's news. I still keep in touch with a lot of the amazing friends I wish I could list and talk about. But that chapter in my life's closed.

I just saw Valkyrie and enjoyed it. I've been so pumped for The Spirit though. It's really disappointing to hear how bad it turned out to be. For people who saw it: I know it's campy and not so well written, but would you completely advise against seeing it?
-
Eh, not so much. I think your subjective experience gives you a different opinion on the community. For a year or two it may have been different because the game was a different game. The creators interacted with a small group of players, and people ran into each other and knew each other. But this was before the game exploded with 10k-200k+ players on at a time. We'll separate that community as just an entirely different game. From that point on though, nothing's changed. Everyone feels like their beginning days had a better community because newbs weren't annoying you all the time. Well guess what: you were the newb annoying other people, you just didn't realize it. Yes you had more fun, but now you're just being overly nostalgic. The community's the same it's always been.

I don't really have a solidified opinion yet, but that's why I post here. By the time I'm done writing, I normally do. I don't like the idea of, as how Bush put it, abandoning free market principals to save a free market. The libertarian in me keeps saying printing out all of this money will be disastrous long term. But this isn't like the bank bailout. We're not writing a blank check to all of these companies. This a loan, and I think the auto companies need it. They've gotten into a pretty bad situation, but I think if they can survive this recession and prove they're heading in a new direction the loan will be worth it. They're competing with a globalized workforce that has no healthcare and retirement requirements, so they're at a huge disadvantage. But if they can survive the next few years and get better cars out, the loan will have had been worth it. This isn't just saving the auto industry. It's saving Detroit. Detroit is facing record foreclosures. The school system (which my Dad works for) is collapsing upon itself as people continue to move out of Detroit and schools lose funding. They just fired the newest superintendent, and things are continuing to go downhill. The issue with the mayor's scandal and him going to jail just add to things. Just this week the news was that the papers won't be delivered 4 days of the week, which is a first for Detroit. And on a not entirely related note, anyone been following the 0-15 Lions? It's just been a terrible year for this city, and if the auto industry leaves Detroit, everything else will follow. Rather than just leaving the city to collapse though, it's the right thing to do to keep them afloat with a loan.

Looks like somebody's about ready to destroy Isengard.

Thought Of Trade Limit Taken off at Christmas?
Adam007 replied to Dire_Wolf's topic in General Discussion
Wasn't the trade limit instated before Xmas of last year? I could be wrong, but if so, if they didn't do it last year I see no reason for them to do it this year. It would be a nice throwback to different/better times, but I see no reason for jagex to do it. They don't want to even recognize a flaw or weakness in their system, and by disabling the trade limit for a day, they would be acknowledging a flaw. -
I learned about Tylor in anthro 101 in reference to religions. He had a theory of evolution that applied to religions. Religions explain the unknown obviously, and since being human implies the unknown, religion will always exist to explain these things. Example: When we dream, it used to believe that we separated ourselves into a spirit world in which we were in our religious 'zone.' He believed that religions evolved in stages: animism, shamanism, polytheism, monotheism, and then science. When science explains all the unknown, he believes religion will cease to exist. Hope that answers your question. :)

It's either piano or synth, and it's played in trailers when it's kind of a sad/hopeful mood. I can't believe nobody knows what it is - my brother immediately recognized it but neither of us knows the name of the song.

songtapper.com - already checked, didn't find it for me.

GPA is really relative. In highschool with AP classes factored in I had above a 4.0, but that just means I did well for my school. At U-M I have about a 3.4, which is alright. For med schools they expect 3.6 and above, but again, it depends somewhat on the university you're graduating from. GPA is really relative, but it probably is the easiest scale if you want to compare yourself to others.

Problem is there aren't any lyrics. The melody just repeats. It's in a lot of trailers, but after searching a good hour through common trailer cliches I didn't find it.

Aww a reply, I got excited. Well with this kind of a goofy thing, it's a little too weird to ask people in person, so online's the best bet.

Sorry to bother you with a megaupload link, I'm trying to find a better one, but I'm going crazy trying to find the name of this song. I have an exam coming up I need to be studying for, but finding out the name of this song is bothering me too much to find it. Anyway, if you have any idea, here is the link to my humming(might have to turn the volume up): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PG490725 And, here's a link where you can skip megaupload: http://www.zamzar.com/download.php?uid= ... 0later.mp3 You'll make my day if you figure this out for me. :)

Since we can't offer you any help, what else do you want from this thread?

Did you come here for empathy? We're not lawyers, we don't know your legal options. It sounds like you knew what you were getting into, so I don't see how you can act like you were a victim to whatever happened.

All the information's out there. It would be great if someone made a big consolidation from original sources rather than threads like telephone games, but after all these years you kind of expect most stories to get distorted or lost. @Ladykilljoy: You mean to tell me there isn't a statue of you in the wild?! :P

Nobody said it matters politically. We just have a system, many of us like to call the news, that keeps us informed about going-ons in the world. It's called a human interest story. It's the biggest day of his life, and unfortunate this happened to his family right now and that his grandmother couldn't live to see the day.

I think the point of a hall of fame would be to recognize prominent members throughout TIF's history. The way I would see it happening, if ran and voted on by users, would be whatever popular story-teller on the general board at the time would make it in, but all of the members from way back wouldn't be recognized. Feelings would be hurt, and all around I just don't think it would be a good idea. There's a staff retired list on the main site, I think that's something that you could look at.

I only skimmed the wikipedia, but where do you get that you can die on the first dose?
-
The overarching plot line isn't that interesting for me yet, but hopefully the last episode that I have yet to catch up on starts something up.
-
Moderate on histrionic and low on everything else. Yay for being normal?

We could use a little bit of inflation I say. :)

It's also fun to look up pictures of extinct animals. We know about most dinosaurs, but if you look up some pictures of the mammals that were around a lot were pretty cool looking.

Is there a point? Is there a reason to live or die?
Adam007 replied to No_99_Melee's topic in Off-Topic
Well first we shouldn't discount the possibility of an afterlife. But it sounds like you already have, so let's talk about the point if there is none. Look at it this way. Whether or not you think there's a grand point to living, you'd do anything to live another day. And that's what's important. Consciousness is the greatest gift imaginable. The ability to perceive, to feel, to enjoy. Think about the happiest moments of your life. That's the point of life if you ask me. When you get to the end of the rope, to be able to look back fondly and be glad you made the most of your time here. To know you effected other people, somehow contributed to culture. Not only enjoyed your life but touched the lives of others. Who cares that relative to the amount of time that has passed or will pass this feels insignificant? That's all relative. We've been given the gift of almost a century of life, so enjoy it and don't worry about a larger purpose. You're in it right now. Have some fun. -
13 October 2008 - RuneScape Pre-pay Card Launched
Adam007 replied to IamRhhh4's topic in General Discussion
Target isn't a toy store. It's a department store. It's just the same when you ask mommy if you can buy something with your own money when she goes shopping. Eh, there are a lot of parents who still don't trust using their credit cards online or don't want to be bothered with dealing with a subscription.
