Last time I checked about 1.4bil. Which is a great return compared to what I actually invested in the 4 party hats I own.

Does anyone care what I do?
Adam007 commented on Mercifull's blog entry in The pointless ramblings of a pleb
I'm indifferent. Although I wish you the best in your endeavors! But seriously, people read blogs not because they care about what's going on in the author's life. They usually read them for some type of entertainment. Problem is, most writers here treat blogs like personal journals which don't have much entertainment value. -
I may have to renew my membership for the first time in years to find this out. It might just be worth it, since I've been waiting for this update for so long and they go and make it p2p.

Ah, something we've all lived with. It almost isn't runescape without people randomly disturbing your training in some shape or form. Or if you play enough you might as well just shell out the five bucks for membership and the area will be pretty empty, and the people you have to interact with will be (relatively) less stupid. But I do know what you're talking about, it takes me back. Just consider it early character building.

The only real incentive/value that would exist if they took items out of the equation would be as you said, status. Which brings the question, if we bring the old wildy back, how do we make status a more important factor? They would have to code a way to determine that fights were held legitimately and reward players for killing another player, similar to the game room. It becomes completely based on status and you get the opportunity to BUY very expensive items from a store (untradable) that show off your abilities and wealth. Granted I haven't played in 3 years it's possible they've implemented some of these things already, but I think it could work if the current situation is that bad.

I thought it's supposed to have a different engine than runescape's? It looks very similar (aside from obvious new additions).
-
The game is broken? Have no fear, at least you don't have a bunch of level 3's all doing the same thing running around.
-
Yeah I too had that realization one day, quite the epiphany when it hits you. I don't know if it's Diablo I or II but my friend was describing that same situation in that game. Gold just no longer has any value. You'll always be able to trade it for small things I think but it is possible that there will be a cap to what people will want to accept in large trades. It's interesting imagining another item taking the place of cash, but really just about any other item has more value than a gp. Jagex does need to counteract all the money brought in with some money-sink, and I think you have a great idea (although knowing them, directly buying things with gp isn't in the spirit of the game).

I've always have been big into runescape's community, although I have a limited economics background to tie theory into what happens in the game. I did enjoy the benefits of owning a few party hats and their exponential growth that occurred for a few years. With the GE though it appears the economy isn't that 'normal' anymore. I'll recommend some reading for you by my friend Duke Freedom on the topic, although with recent changes I don't really know how relevant they are anymore: http://www.tip.it/runescape/?times=archives (he wrote a few here) http://www.runehead.com/editorials/Editorial+Archive-x (and here. and while you're at it, go ahead and give mine a read :P )

Three New Global Moderators!
Adam007 replied to n_odie's topic in Announcements, Rules and Security Warnings!
Someone will not become a moderator or be promoted simply if one moderator or admin suggests it. There has to be a consensus. Exactly my point. Too often the mods appoint their friends, kinda like congress voting themselves pay raises. I know these three, looking back, and I am fairly certain they will be good mods though. Gratz again! You seem to misunderstand our staffing process. Our mod apps were sorted by a team of our admins and supermods - we selected who we thought were the best canidates and presented that list to our moderator team who provided feedback to the group we had - then using that feedback the admin team made the final calls on applicants. Promotions are not decided by the mods or staff but decided by the admin team as a whole. If a mod nominated thier friend when we are not recruiting - there has to be a need usually for the moderator - then it has to be agreeded upon by the staff - then the administrators may decide to wait on them or bring them on. Hope that clears things up for all. Ya, basically exactly what I stated. No user input, and if you aren't a friend of a mod you don't get in. Those who have upset mods are screwed, even if the mods are in the wrong. You don't have to be a friend of a mod to be accepted, as you see above. Normally you just need to be noticed by any staff member, nominated, and then if the staff as a whole agrees, the member may be invited to the staff. This also means that if the nominated member has made one enemy amongst the staff, he or she may still be accepted because we discuss things as a team. It completely depends on each person's unique history here. A decent percentage of our current staff has had altercations with older staff at some point, but when deciding on new waves of staff that never is a defining factor. Again guys, congrats and keep up the great work you've been doing! -
Good luck with the channel, it's a great idea. I'd upload something myself but so far I'm waiting for that creative spark.

Welcome to our new mod Darkrick!

As do the best forums! -
Tough to see one of the most legendary clans go. The clan world won't be the same. Good luck to the members finding new places.

By far the best item is the pterodactyl.

I only have one eye contact problem and I think it has to do with contacts. Whenever I'm in an interview or something where prolonged eye contact is required, my eyes start drying out because I'm keeping them still. Then I need to either close them for a noticeably longer time than normal or oddly look away for a second until they're not dry anymore. Anyone else get this?

I have to disagree with you guys and agree with the original poster. But my experience has been different. I quit basically after what he described occurred, so that's what I'm left to remember happening. It wasn't a "I won't stand for this, I'm quitting!" type of deal. I just lost interest and gradually stopped playing. To qualify, that was a long post of his, and a lot outdated so it's hard to criticize things like coinshare. Obviously now most players believe jagex did the right thing - otherwise they wouldn't be playing, like me. Jagex completely ruined the game for a segment of its players. But that's the thing. For the majority of players, it didn't effect them. Jagex took a gamble, and runescape is now a different game for it. It may or may not be a better game, but their choice is long over. Having said that, I'll keep this thread open because most of what jagex did still has ramifications that are legitimate rants. But this change has occurred long ago, and I don't see much discussion around this anymore. True it's not the same game it used to be, but new players come, old players go, and the game sticks around. Pretty soon nobody will know anything other than the GE and nobody will have any complaints. And guys, lay off the flaming. The original rant may not be completely fitting now, that's why he put 'historic' in the title. If you played back then, that quote summed up the general sentiments pretty well.

Moved to questionnaires, as this thread is essentially a question, "if you were limited to x, how would you make y?" rephrased.
-
Moved to questionnaires. I'd like to change it from AJL221893, which is just too long/confusing/unoriginal a name. Maybe just be consistent with here and take Adam007.

Pm me the email address you'd like an invite sent to. Although so far I have to tell you, it's not worth it. You can get all the points you want but they rarely restock the prizes, and when they do, they disappear really quickly.

First of all, everyone plays for different reasons, and still has fun, regardless of whether or not it takes skill. When it comes down to it, if you're having fun, what's it matter? But since this is a topic about the lack of skill in runescape versus other games that do require skill, I'll address that. There are so many aspects to rs that require skill. They might not be obvious skill requiring things other games have like getting a headshot, but they're everywhere. Pk'ing clearly takes skill. I've played pretty much every aspect and I'll tell you it is fun, and it does take skill. When I pk'ed, I would have to juggle entangles, spells, switching from mage to melee to range, all while reacting to my opponent and everyone else surrounding. There's a lot going on, it's intense, and fun. The same goes for quests. Legends in rs1 was hard. It took skill. Some people were legendary because they did the quest on a low level, which took skill because others couldn't accomplish that same thing. Timing, intelligence, you name it. Those require skill. Merchanting. It takes/took skill. Much like in the real world, some people have a knack for saving money on purchases, and making money off of what they sell. It takes skill: some people are better at it than others. And when you make money off of your own talent, it's fun. Training the most efficient way, as someone else mentioned, takes skill. You have to have the intelligence to know where to train, how to train the most efficiently, which items, etc. This is more of a cerebral skill, but it still takes intelligence. Whether it's reflex, timing, speed, an ability to multitask, bargaining, outwitting, being efficient, etc, these are all dependent on your skill. I don't play anymore, but the thing I did enjoy was that after you did all the grinding, you did have a chance to use your skills. I think you may have missed that part. It just sounds like this game isn't for you if you haven't found a part of it that you enjoy, because most others here have.

Have any lockerz members actually seen the site have stuff that hasn't been bought out by ptz? It all seems pretty lame to me. They stock like 1 of each which get taken within minutes of being put up to give the image that they give a lot of free stuff, but there really isn't much substance. I have enough 'ptz' for most video games, but they're always sold out. I don't really think the site is legit.

Moved to bugs/suggestions. I haven't heard of this ever happening, but if it is due to a glitch in the GE it's a bug as the GE isn't intended to do that. Most likely you somehow accidentally added a person without realizing it I would guess.

Wow, congrats on the scholarship. If you want to go pre-med you can major in anything as long as you take the required classes. As for the gore, you'll see a lot of it in med school but if you can endure a few years of it you can become a type of doctor that doesn't have to deal with it. You've got some time. Take classes you're interested in that still fulfill various requirements and do some shadowing of different careers you're interested in. If you do want to go pre-med or pre-business though, talk to an advisor because you will want to take the right classes due to time constraints. You've still got plenty of time now though, so for now just explore your options without worrying too much.

Do you ever get outside? Sunlight hurts my eyes to be honest, so I try to stay out of sunlight as much as possible.[/vampire] It hurts everyone's eyes. When you stare at it, that pain's the feeling of your retina's being cooked. Luckily for most of the rest of the population, that's not reason enough to not go outside. :P Maybe stick around a few minutes next time you venture out? Turns out our eyes dilate if we can stand being outside for a minute, and then we don't have to squint anymore! Kidding aside, that's no excuse. Although I should say, when you're old, you'll have great looking cancer free skin.

The more in-depth the better. I'd hope it would be more sophisticated than that, but if these situations are completely random, it would be pretty hard to code specific situations unless the situations become not-so-random and more like mini-games.
