  1. That's just flat out dodging the issue. Is marijuana ok for kids if they're not getting addicted to cocaine?
  2. Yeah, but can't you overdo it? What about balancing that with other just as important things outside of what you can gain from a screen? That's why they invented the ergochair. Plus, think how much graphic designers and effect artists are on computers. And they get payed sometimes big bucks for it too. I wasn't even talking about physical downfalls really. While spending large amounts of time on a computer as a fully developed 25+ year old adult is fine, any younger than that while your personality is still developing can be damaging. If people don't sharpen their social skills before they hit a certain age, they're stuck that way. Internet interaction can in no way replace real life interaction with tones, gestures, and those subtle human communications. -edit- Yeah, but can't you overdo it? What about balancing that with other just as important things outside of what you can gain from a screen? Of course you can overdo it. What good is all that knowledge if you don't have the social skills to apply it in reality? Sure you can apply it online, but you can also Google it at the same time. I enjoy spending time learning about other cultures, languages, religions, ect when I'm online but I also make sure I have good social skills so that I can apply the knowledge I've gained to my everyday life. Adam, don't say you don't understand this.. If you really don't I think I should get some sleep.. Deloria, I already knew the answer. Obviously you can overdo it. I was playing devil's advocate.
  3. I'm saying something I did on Friday proved to me just how immature me and those around me are. Also, there is one thing we care about.. Sex. Though there are a few other things I care about right now, I'm not doing anything to achieve them.. Don't take anything I say right now too seriously.. I haven't slept much lately. Well like I said, you're getting distracted by gossip, or social pressures. They seem so important, and are probably going to continue taking over your mind until you graduate. Socially I guess it is important to stay involved with everything, but that's the black hole that sucks in everyone's attention away from important things. Relationships are great and all, but they make everything else seem stupid to people. And in school, people want to be accepted and fit in. So they all draw their attention to gossip and relationships, and caring about world events, or the future, or technology singles people out. Since nobody wants to be singled out, they assimilate theirselves into the collective mindset of general indifference to important (imo) things, only caring about highschool drama.
  4. It's possible that we've just reached a new peak of laziness. And laziness leads to indifference/apathy, and in general not caring about things or putting effort into anything. Then instead of going into an interesting field where someone could discover something and change the world, the average American would prefer practicality. "Just go to college and get a 4 year degree in business. I used to want to be a doctor, but I'd rather take the easy way out and start immediately making money." In general, kids my age just want to be average. Anything diverting off of that is just seen as weird. Could you rephrase that? It sounds like you're applying some random thing that's been going on with your relationship to this - which at least I can't make any connection with. You don't need to pull your recent relationship comparatively into everything. Unless I completely missed your point, in which case, sorry. I just don't see where a lack of maturity can relate to indifference. I could be a crazy kid who has no emotional development, who causes all kinds of trouble, but at least have some direction in life. At least care about something. The problem is kids don't care about anything other than relationships (like you), gossip, TV, video games, text messaging, watching movies, etc. That makes it pretty hard to segway from senior year in highschool to deciding in college that you want to go into a seemingly far away field like NASA or nanotechnology or something that will advance the world.

  6. Lamarck, you mean. Yep, that's Lamarck's theory, not Darwin's. His theory is that a giraffe would give birth to giraffes with longer and longer necks, in order for them to reach the food on the top of trees. Darwin's theory, however, came after his and says a group of giraffes would be born with longer necks and those would prevail with time, since those'd be more apt to survive. Lamarck was wrong. You are adapting, not evolving. :) Either way...my kids are gonna own your all's kids at CS:Source because of their super adapted/evolved screen-sensitive eyes. Lamarck's theory says so. But it's basically been proven wrong with Darwin's. And if Darwin's is correct, you could stare at screens 24/7 and it wouldn't help your kids at all. They'll get the same genes you'd pass down if you never saw a screen in your entire life - the genes you were born with. I feel boring. :( On topic, yes, it is a problem. Studies have been showing that it's effecting a ton of people. I spend so much time on the internet in procrastination of things I hate doing - aka homework. But in my opinion there's always something more productive you can be doing than being on the internet, so being on the internet ever is technically a waste of time, unless you're researching or doing something relatively important.
  7. From my experience, kids are just too indifferent. If they hear about anyone doing something interesting or achieving some feat, their reaction is "oh my gosh, that guy must have a lot of free time," "he/she needs a life," "does this guy have any friends?" or something to basically insult his or her life's existence. It's completely frowned upon to walk off the line of normalcy. A kid can be passionate about sports, music, or gossip. But science? No way. Then you're just weird.
  8. I wouldn't. Besides it being against my religion, I just find them disgusting. They seem like the ultimate form of tainting yourself.

I love poker. I haven't played in awhile, but I absolutely love the dimension to it, and that it's at such a higher level than the cards with reading people and spotting tells.
  10. Speaking of ToG - does anyone know if they've allowed hunter xp for it yet?
  11. What if you had to give up your life in order to kill him? Would you do it then? If it was before he did his damage, yes, I'd be willing to sacrifice my life to save millions of others, obviously.
  12. The obvious choice: Kill Hitler, save a few million jews. :) (Europe could really use some)
  13. As technology only gets better, body replacements won't be artificial anymore. Already some organs like bladders have been grown in labs and transplanted into humans successfully. Once stem cell research inevitably breaks past the the progress-road-block of republicans, we can achieve even more.
  14. Didn't you guys already have/attempt to have one thru these boards? Or was that a different couple.

I'd buy two shares of Google. :P
  16. They're certers.
  17. Why not Ann Arbor? That seems like your kind of city from what I can tell. I'm interested in what'll happen with this. Most likely it'll just fade away though, never to be heard of again.
  18. Just had the usual new years party. Nobody really worried about a computer crash.
  19. To be honest, I wouldn't have posted this here. These people (the majority) are ridiculously out of touch with the old rs1. Nobody knows about the underground farm. They probably don't realize your impact nor ladydejavu's impact on rs back when, and they think it's a literal wedding, and basically don't understand the rpg'ness and fun of it. Best of luck to this great event, and I really hope the masses who read this don't ruin it. :)
  20. I agree with the other posters on it being both. Your environment\genetics will shape your personality and your future choices, but you still can make those choices yourself. You're heavily influenced by those but in the end, only you have control over what you do. Most people just won't go against the grain of what they've been brought up with expectations-wise.
  21. It's intuitive enough to use the remote style controller. Most people who aren't used to video games and normally won't touch a controller have been having a great time with the remote kind. If it's getting used to it you're worried about, don't be. There are ports to plug in gamecube controllers to play GC games and Virtual Console, but new games use the remote.
  22. Some tips I found: 1. Press the home button on the main menu. Next click on the controller image. You can adjust the wii-mote volume and rumble functions 2. Hold a and b down and you can move the windows on the main menu around. 3. In order to add someone to your friend's list you BOTH have to enter eachother's Number ID and Console Nickname to be able to send messages and Mii's 4. Want your plain-looking Wii to have some style? Add a blue light around you CD drive anytime the console is on by doing the following: Go to your email from the home menu, and add your personal computer email address to your address book. Wait ~1 hour for the email (mine took at least this long) Reply to the email from your computer. In a few minutes, you will have an email waiting for you on your Wii. Don't read it! As long as it remains new, you have a pretty blue light! 5. In wii sports bowling, you can release on the back swing and throw the ball backwards. It scares all the miis behind you. 6. Email A Wii: You can email any Wii that you know the Friend code for. The Email address will be w(Wii Number here)@wii.com. For Example: [email protected] 7. Get rid of Generic Teammates/Spectators: The Wii will automatically use the other Miis in your Plaza as teammates and spectators in certain Wii sports games. Create friends and family, and you can get rid of the generic Miis. 8. Register and Extend Warranty: Register your Console on Nintendo.com, get a free 90 day extension to your warranty. 9. Get Free Nintendo Power: Register 3 Nintendo products on Nintendo.com, and get 3 months of Nintendo Power free. 10. Extra Parts: There are two parts to the Wii in your box that you may either not find, or never know what they are. The first is a Clear Disc piece. This piece fits under your Wii stand to Stabalize it's balance. The second is a Small(1" - 1.5") plastic Piece. This piece is the stand for the Sensor bar. It puts some disntance between your TV and the bar. In theory, that should give you a better angle reception. 11. Get Miis in your parade: Setting your Miis to Mingle, and having your friends do the same thing will soon have Miis walking around in your parade. Your friends' Miis will wonder over to your console and parade around, so long as they are set to Mingle. You can then grab them and send them to your Plaza so you have a copy. 12. In Zelda, the direction Link spins when doing a spin attack depends on which way you spin your nunchuck 13. In Wii Sports Bowling, when you press up on the Directional Pad, it will zoom in on the lane. The zoom in sound is the exact same sound from Super Mario 64 anytime you moved the camera. 14. If you go to the Channel section in your menu you can choose to save VC games on a SD card.... 15. In LOZ:TP if you keep it at the start screen for an extended period of time, it plays an extremely extended trailer that they didn't show to the general public which is pretty cool. 16. On hole 3 of Wii Sports Golf, there is a small section of fairway at about a 45 degree angle to the left from the tee box. It is a small patch surrounded by Out Of Bound-ness. If you can land your ball on there, you can easily make it on the green in 2, to to Eagle the course. 17. Wii Video 9 - Wii Video Converter Wii Video 9 is a free video conversion application developed by Red Kawa. It allows you to convert your computer video files (like avi, divx, mpeg, etc.) into the specific video formats that are playable on the Wii. Wii Video 9 can also be combined with Videora, another software application, and together they can let you automatically download and convert video for your Wii using BitTorrent and RSS technology. 18. In the Wii menus, turn your wrist and the hand cursor will also turn. 19. from Varelse: I just found and confirmed a little easter egg. I'm not sure if it's already known, but while your Wii is powered down you can press any button on your Wiimote and lights will flash. The number of lights flashing is the amount of charge left in your battery (1 is least charge, 4 is most charge) 20. In Wii Bowling, if you aim right to any lane near you, you can throw your ball there, but you won't hit any pins unless you aim right. 21. Zelda. You can skip cutscenes in Zelda by hitting the - button 22. Black Ninja Wii Bowling easter egg YouTube - Wii Sports Bowling Easter Egg 23. When you purchase a virtual console title and Mario runs across the screen, if you happen to get fire flower Mario, you can shoot fireballs with the A button.
  23. Does anyone know how to do this? For a TV class I need to film someone on a computer and show what's on the screen. I just don't want the moving lines going up and down the screen. My teacher said that she knew of a resolution setting that removed this, but couldn't remember what to do exactly. I googled it, but couldn't find any results. Anyone have any idea if this is fixable? And if not, I could take the route of just recording my screen and taking it as a different shot. In that case, between camtasia and hyper, which doesn't have watermarks?
  24. I think I'll wait for early December like the news update said Juna would be giving tears xp again. I hate competing with people for resources, so this isn't exactly my kind of skill right now. I have a feeling those areas won't die down for a long time though. I'll just get to the mid 30s or 40s with tears, and higher than that the spots will probably be less crowded. (Plus I have a Wii now so my weekly on hour log-on's been reduced to like 10 minutes of rs a week)
  25. What are you saying? That black women are one step above people who have no say in their country? It's human nature to like people that look like you. That's completely normal.
