  1. The one thing I'd point out is that if I'm at the Shilo Gem mines with someone, or I'm mining slower mid-to-higher level ores, I generally do try to work out some kind of sharing. But that's usually because the other person and I are probably at a similar mining level, and competing for the same rock is usually silly, and slows things down. The folks 70+ are gonna go for Addy somewhere, those able to mine Runite are probably doing so. Very few people with levels significantly higher than mine are bothering with Gold, Silver or Mith (my ores of choice). They're either power-mining Iron, or going after the better ores. If there are two of us competing for mid-level ores somewhere, the best way to go is usually something of mutual benefit, since neither one of us is going to kick the other's backside. But if we can't work something out, one of us usually sucks it up and leaves. That's mining. So if a level 70 is power-mining iron somewhere, the level 18 has to suck it up. If I decide to power-mine (and I'm waaay too cheap to do it), I'm not slowing down for anyone. That being said, since I'm P2P, I almost never have to worry much about competition when I do decide to mine. I may have to world-hop a few times, but I usually can mine for hours with little stress.
  2. I only mine at about 3 in the morning, US time. And still, there's always someone, always, always someone who is too arrogant to share. I would hardly call it arrogance. On their part anyway. That person is training, and they no doubt had to train hard to get to where they are (mining is brutal training, as far as I'm concerned, at higher levels). With each new level, it's going to take even more work for them to level up. To go from 75 to 76 mining will require almost 3.2K iron ore mined. Even under the best of conditions, this could take about 3 hours of powermining. And you want these people to make that 5-6 hours? Just so lower-levels can spend 10 seconds on an iron rock for one iron ore? You seem far more arrogant than the higher level miner, expecting everyone to slow down their training to accomodate your impatience. Mining is uber-competitive. The sooner you reconcile yourself to that fact, and go mine Rune Essence until level 41 or so (and your Rune Pickaxe), the better off you'll be. I have a second account, and he mines Rune Essence. Slowly, grudgingly, but it's the way to go.
  3. Absolutely. Another popular spot is the Rock Crabs north of Relleka in the Fremmenik province. They have terrible defense against range. Drops aren't so great I dont't think, and I don't think there are any safe spots (can't remember, didn't train there much). Ranging Lesser Demons from safespots in Karamja dungeon is also pretty good. Both spots above can be very, very crowded. If you like Level 2 clue scrolls along the way to break up the monotony, head to the top of Varrock Castle, and range the Guards from behind barricades. Every 70 or so they seem to drop a clue scroll. Ranging Werewolves of Canafis from behind the gate at the pub there is pretty good. They drop enough alchable items (got 2 rune meds on 1 slayer assignment there once) to be worth the arrow usage (and right near a bank!). Finally, people just looove the Minotaurs in the Stronghold of security. Use iron arrows, because they drop lots of iron arrows. You'll definitely end up with more arrows than you started with.
  4. That's impressive. How long does it last?
  5. I think you just encapsulated the essence of hunting. I nearly pee'ed myself reading that.
  6. Tears of Guthix, baby. Tears of Guthix. No skill has been so suited for Tears of Guthix and Genie Lamps. I also like most skills (and consider myself a skiller), with the exception of the mind-numbing, click-intensive, failure-prone agility and thieving. Hunter joins them, and for the same reasons. Lots of clicks, tedious, skills for the sake of skills, with no point to them and no real thought having gone into them (firemaking is kinda pointless as well, and click-heavy, and my life would be none-the-worse if it were to disappear, but I don't seem to mind it as much). I will train Hunter only when I need to, just as I don't train agility or thieving unless I have to. It's that simple. No need to worry any more about it. Time to sit back and wait and see if they get it right the next time. It's funny, I was worried it might be TOO much like farming. Now that it's not, and I see what it is, I wish to God that is had been.
  7. I'm sorry, what game are you referring to? Because it can't be Runescape. It takes no time at all to get your first 15-20 levels in pretty much every other skill out there. Again, if you're talking about Runescape. Not sure what game you're on about. Future benefits. Because they're really aren't many/any at the moment. Look, I'm sure Jagex went to a lot of work developing this skill, and they no doubt have more improvements in the pipeline. I'm looking forward to getting home and getting some XP in it. I'm glad they did it. But from what I'm reading on this forum and others, well... this skill leaves quite a bit to be desired. Construction came out and you could do all sorts of stuff with game rooms, skill halls, portal rooms, what have you. To say nothing of the fun that could be had in the games and combat rooms. The benefits were there from the get-go. Construction may have been a cash sink when it came out, but no one was saying stuff like "I like it because it has potential to be something interesting in the future". But just as bad as the knee-jerk "I hate it" folks are the knee jerk "can't accept valid criticism, Jagex can do no wrong" folks. If people don't give feedback, Jagex won't know what to work on to make it better.
  8. One person per trap? With hundreds likely hunting on each server? Dumb. Only word for Jagex on that one. well they cant exactly place several hundred traps per server can they, that will be just too unrealistic, and unnecessary. These are just release hypes. Also the creatures would have to fall into a trap themselves, so having several hundred trap in 1 spot is also impractical. They don't need to place any more than one trap, any more than they needed place hundreds of farming patches. I can plant seedcorn at the same time that you and 800 other Runescapers plant seedcorn. I don't have to wait for you to finish. Yet they couldn't do the same with a deadfall trap? Open mouth, insert foot, Chen. As a Tip.it crewmember, insulting posters because you can't wrap your head around some concepts just makes Tip.it seem bad.
  9. I've not played it yet, but from the RSOF: One person per trap? With hundreds likely hunting on each server? Dumb. Only word for Jagex on that one.
  10. There doesn't seem to be a magickal attack mode (no magick bonus). Just a way to "train" mage when using it. If it's cheap and disposable, it's a good thing to have. Anything below Black, though, seems to be of little value in the wilderness. The more I look at it. The top salamander (the Black) is a ranging weapon that can be used for melee if hard-pressed. But can it replace the DDP++ with it's poison and special? Plus, you're going to have to switch attack styles, which requires another screen to click while fighting. At first glance, I think I'd rather have a mage bow and a DDP++ in my back pocket. But we'll see.
  11. I'm excited about this skill, but I'd just like to point out: It's new. Time will tell whether or not this effect will wear off. After my first Treasure Trail I said I was "hooked". Now I just think they're kinda tedious. As such, it's too early to tell with this new skill. The fact that folks have 50K xp after a few hours is a good sign, though, that it won't be entirely tedious. This could have been given to us through a quest. Just like we got brutal arrows from the ogres, we could have gotten this "brutal harpoon" from them. Plus, it's not a huge advantage, I'd argue. It's nice and all, but unless it actually gives you some kind of fishing bonus, color me non-plussed. Measley bonus, and how often does a ranger need a strength boost? I don't see much value here. My guess is, other than the novelty factor, these weapons will not take off. Barring some huge damage it causes, or incredible advantage when used against metal (melee) armor, the rate of fire on these puppies will likely make them far inferior to current ranging equipment (mage bows + any arrow). Plus: Sounds just complicated enough to render it useless. These have potential, although I need to seem them in use. Bonuses are rather tame, and I'm guessing that it'll be complicated to use (like the chinchompas). Plus, herbs are already expensive, and this will drive the price up even more. Will it be cost effective to maintain? Plus, you need to wield tar and salamander. No shield. Interesting idea, but my guess is that the cost of the box, as well as the time it takes to catch an imp, will make these less-than-popular. Imp Boxers may be able to make a lot of money selling these to PKers. Has potential. Sounds great. Runecrafting and agility training just got easier. Sounds great. Finally, a chance to help my theiving. --------- Meh. We'll see. I'm excited about the skill because it's new. I'm not expecting a whole lot, and I'm not blown out of the water at this point either.
  12. Observations so far: How much XP do you get for doing what? Missing that in the documentation, Jagex :shame: Yay! Saradomin bless the farmers! The demand for seeds and herbs could go through the roof! Pures can't use! Woo Hoo! Let's hear it for balanced players (time to get those last 7 range levels... anyone selling a cannon? And these could very well become standard wildy PKing weapons. Great against rangers and mages with the slash and range attack bonuses. No need to switch weapons in wildy. Loving it so far, Jagex! Even though I can't play at work :( Grrr... this helps PKing clans. The good thing is, I doubt they'll have the patience to develop and work on the skill. Could be a money-maker catchting butterflies.
  13. You catch exploding rats and attack with them! Good Lord!
  14. Dang, The excitement level is really boiling over it seems. A little voice in my head is saying that either they'll release it by Wednesday in order to get Americans playing all through their extended 4-day holiday weekend, or else it'll be next week.
  15. Dudes, look at my siggy. HUNTER PAW!
  16. The Legends Guild currently stocks 6 mithril seeds at a time, and I think they ought to stock considerably more. Not because I want to make money selling flowers, but I have fun planting 'em. I know, it's stupid, but I get a kick out of going to Lumby and planting a bunch of flowers, and hearing all the newer members freak out. I dunno, it's fun, and takes some of the boredom out of the game. If they stocked 500 of 'em at the same price (300 gp), odds are that once or twice a month I would blow a 150K and just mess around in Lumby. World hopping to get a decent number is so pointless. If there were more seeds, nobody gets hurt, the economy isn't damaged. In fact, it's a total waste of GP (something Jagex wants). I think stuff like this would be a good, fun way to suck money out of the Runescape economy. Where's the harm?
  17. I think topics like these scare a lot of people, because there probably is some truth to your original hypothesis. I've noticed that the ratio of female characters around the farming patches is more heavily female than in most other aspects of the game. Same goes for fishing, or down in the Rogues Den cooking, or smelting in Port Phasmatys. To be honest, I don't think it's so much a gender thing as it is a maturity thing. The mentality and maturity level of the vast majority of Runescape players (who tend to be boys age 16 and below, F2P especially) is utterly unbearable. Those teens and pre-teens are not likely to be skillers, because of ADD and all sorts of other reasons. The only reason gender is a factor in this debate is because the average 12 year old girl is more mature than your average 16 year old boy (in real life or in Runescape). As such, a good way to spend as little time as possible with those anti-social miscreants is to spend time skilling. I have never, ever heard people get into fights while smelting in Port Phasmatys or farming in Catherby. The people there are just nicer and more mature. However, get within shouting distance of Edgeville bank or stumble into the duel arena on a clue scroll and the "noob" nonsense flares right up. So yes, a higher percentage of girls are more likely to be skillers, simply because girls are more mature. More interesting questions: - are you more likely to be scammed by a guy? - are girls less likely to nickel and dime you while trading? In my experience, yes to both. There are exceptions, no doubt, but I've found that girls in runescape are far less likely to focus on pixel wealth, and couldn't be bothered haggling over GPs, let alone trying to scam you. And that makes Runescape a richer and more enjoyable environment. Hopefully Jagex begins to tailor the game to attract those types of players.
  18. Anti-dragon shield is, of course, a must. I've had friends try with Full Rune (chainbody not plate) and fail, and others do it easily in Mithril. Sometimes the ball bounces your way, you hit well and Elvarg hits poorly. Other times, the opposite happens. Try it in full steel and see. Be prepared to die though. I think anything less than full addy, rune weapon, potions, and at least an inventory of lobbies is quite risky. Swordies are better than lobbies, of course. Elvarg is quite mean.
  19. 69. Crystal Saw (+3) Tea from highest level kitchen shelves (+3) Technically, you could do it at, like, 63 I think. You'd need (in addition to the above): Doom/Evil/Spicy Stew (+6** ... huge if here, though) ** if you get it just right, the Spicy Stew (which you make for Recipe for Disaster's Evil Bob subquest) can boost any stat up to +6, but the stew's stat boosts and drains are entirely random. After a while of trying the stew, I abandoned that method and just slogged on to 69. It took me, I think, well over 7 million GP to get 69.
  20. PKers, folks who need inventory slots, and people quitting/going back to F2P. Those folks keep the market price for dragon weapons at or below the Zanaris price.
  21. Very interesting. Mage and Runecrafting XP. The only problem I would forsee is that there are Nature Crafting services who offer double natures back, or some offer 12K. Granted, they're not always on, of course. But I like the idea.
  22. Don't rush off to the Abyss quite yet. Another popular method is to start at Edgeville, run to the Fairy Ring east of Edge (cross the bridge, but no wildy involved), dial CKR, and then run to Nat Altar. Runecraft, tele to Edge, bank, drink regular restore pot, repeat. It's still a bit slower than the Abyss, but faster than the other way. Check out the details of Method 3. Plus, if your pouches degrade, you'll already be in Edge, and can make 1 run to the Abyss to craft and repair. Personally, I don't like giving PKers the satisfaction of making runs through the Abyss. Social miscreants that they are.
  23. I've said it in the past, members is great at any level. There are no "minimum stats" at which you'll get more out of members. In fact, you'll level all stats (even F2P ones) much, much faster if you join members. So waiting is just plain silly. I wish I'd had Ardougne, Yanille and the Coal trucks as I trained mining. Heck, Pure Essence =P~ till I could mine Iron well. I wish I'd done my early combat training on Chaos Druids in members dungeon. All those unidentified herbs... The Forests from Seers to Ardougne... oh, the ease of woodcutting... All those hundreds of cheap arrows in the Catherby archery store... I wish I'd been smelting cannonballs sooner. And Rings of Forging for iron smelting... I wish I'd been fishing at Catherby the whole time, or the Trout and Salmon runs northwest of Ardougne had I not been high enough. If I had it to do over again, I'd have joined members right away. Once you get the game mechanics down, you're good to go. The longer one waits, the worse off they are.
  24. I was just looking at the RS official map, and noticed that the F2P area of Karamja, where the banana plantation is, shows up as "Musa Point": I've never noticed this before. Anyone know when this name change occured, and why?
  25. By the way, the lynchpin to this whole plan is recruiting runners. I'm not going to be on RS for a good 7-8 more hours, but could someone time how long it takes to walk (not run) from Draynor Bank to Port Sarim, hop a ship to Karamja, and walk to the Lobster pier? We've got to figure out if a runner or merchant can make money at a comporable or better rate than they would if they were running Fast Airs. At this point, if it takes 2 minutes to get from Draynor Bank to Karamja, and we fishers/cookers sold for 10 gp each, runners could make somewhere in the area of 50-60K per hour (selling at 200 each). That's about the same or less than running Fast Airs. As such, I don't think charging more than 10gp per lobby would really be feasible. If it only takes 1.5 minutes, then fishers could charge 20 gp each, and runners could still make 60-70K/hour (selling at 200 each). That would likely end up being successful. As a cooker looking for XP, I'm more than happy buying for "X" gp and selling cooked for that same "X" gp. Most cookers would feel the same if there were ample numbers of fishers and runners.
