  1. Well, It does suck and this issue does involve communism, because China is a communist state. Sure, the same law could be passed everywhere, but the difference is that citizens of democratic states have elected leaders that make the laws and also the citizens have the ability to repeal the law. Online games are no more addictive than any other. I have personally played standalone "offline" games for many, many hours on end. I've also read books for hours and hours...never heard anyone complain about that. What if a parent decides that they believe their kids should play exactly 3.5 hrs of gaming a day? That they believe that is the optimal amount of time a kid should play to develop skills gained thru gaming. Should they not be able to allow their kids to play an extra 1/2 hr? Also, it does affect more than just minors...the adults have to prove they are adults before they can play.
  2. Gee, ain't communism great?!?! I laugh at this idea...losing points? I guess they mean in-game money. What about single-player "offline" games? Those are ok, but "excessive" online gaming is bad? If my government ever tried to tell me how much time spent playing games is "excessive", I'll revolt!
  3. Flight Plan - horrible, horrible movie with so many plot holes... New World - I wanted to slit my wrists halfway thru Aviator - I literally fell asleep in the theater. From what I saw, the performances were good, but the plot was terribly boring.
  4. I quit just over a year ago after 15+ yrs. Honestly, it comes down to really wanting to quit...I mean REALLY wanting to. You can't have the attitude that "I'm going to try to quit" (as Joda says, "there is no try")...you have to have the attitude that "I have quit and will never smoke again". People talk about secrets to quitting...I have one: DONT SMOKE...that's the easiest way to quit. It kinda bothers me that the Stop-smoking aids (nic gum, patch, etc.) seem to have a lot of people convinced that you can't quit without help...that's bull. Anyone can quit on their own...just don't smoke.
  5. finally time I chime in here :) To me, "hardcore" by itself is hardcore punk. Everything else I refer ro as metalcore, skacore, etc. (and that "hardcore" dance crap is, imo just dance music with a wannabe name). Many of the old-school HC bands (like BB, Minor Threat, Fugazi, etc.) I think of as just punk really. I guess they've just kinda lost their edge a bit over the years or maybe it's just cuz I've heard it all so many times. Doesn't come across as so "hardcore" anymore. Tho, as I think about it, maybe I've just always liked more bands that are HC bands, but I just always tended to think of them as punk. Anyway, many newer bands have kinda re-defined what I think of as hardcore. I'll admit that many of them have the "roaring" type of vocals, but I don't necessarily let that define it for me. Current HC bands I listen to a lot: Comeback Kid, Bigwig, Rise Against, Strike Anywhere, Stretch Arm strong, Thought Riot, Set your Goals, No Trigger, Sinking Ships, Shook Ones.
  6. The Wonder Years...such a fantastic show. Like most popular sitcoms, I never watched it until the re-runs (same with Seinfeld and Friends).
  7. definitely not my genre and I pretty much only know one dance song (or maybe it's just that they all sound like this one): L.A. Style - James Brown is Dead
  8. I got into em when Ignition was released. They definitely have a distinctive sound, but that also means all they're stuff pretty much sounds the same. I lost interest with them around Americana/Conspiracy of One. Ignition is definitely their best, Ixnay and Americana (excluding horrible Pretty Fly song) are pretty good. I'd have to say best songs are Session, LAPD, and All I want.

About the only show I watch right now is Ghost Hunters on Sci-fi...fun show
  10. I didn't realize Infinity Ward didn't do CoD3. As much as I like CoD's I never played 3, cuz it wasn't on PC...I never understood how anyone can play FPS's on console...so much better on PC.
  11. I don't do anything more now (since "global warming" has become a buzzword) than I have been doing for years. We recycle, try to be efficient in energy usage, and generally, try not to "waste". Honestly, it mostly comes down to money...I turn off lights when not needed so that my electric bill is lower...I recycle, because recycling services are free and it would cost me extra to "rent" a larger trash can...more efficient light bulbs usually also last longer. Sure, I'm also doing it because it helps prevent environmental problems, but I'm not going to lie and say that's the only reason I do them.
  12. I'm really excited about this game, tho it doesn't come out until end of the year. Looks like it will be on PC (yeah!), PS3, and 360. I like that they moved the setting up to modern war, rather than another WWII game (I think most of us were burnt out on those). The graphics look incredible...be sure to watch the vids: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/callo ... lt;title;0
  13. In additon to Zelda: Harvest Moon Medal of Honor Call of Duty
  14. I watch Football (not futbol) and college basketball. I play golf and disc golf.
  15. Good for you! I think it's fantastic and takes a lot of courage (just to admit you need to). Stick with it! It'll require patience and time. I think you're going about it correctly...sounds like you're doing it for yourself (not others) and you're doing it with plans of exercising (the best and only way you'll lose it and keep it off...dieting is only temporary). Again, stick with it, because you can do it!
  16. Nearly 30 years for me. I remember playing Pong at someone's house when I was about 4. Space Invaders, Pacman, and Galaga were the main ones I remember playing in arcade. My real love of gaming came in '86 when I bought my NES (was 12 at the time and yes, I bought it myself, as I had a part-time summer job).
  17. WTH are you talking about?

It's not hard to detect sarcasm over the internet, Nick. :| ROFL...now, that's funny!
  19. pfilc23 replied to Evrae's topic in Off-Topic
maybe...certainly wasn't phrased well if so

Umm, are you sure you're not talking about crack?
  21. And the government decides "what the people need to know"! I'm sorry, but even tho I agree most of "news" these days is a ridiculous waste, I'd rather have corporations "deciding what we need to know" than the government (any government). Corporations are much more susceptible to public opinion that governments.
  22. We used to have the same telemarketer calling us at about the same time every night (right at dinner time, of course!). My brother was living with us at the time and he started answering it and acting like he couldn't hear them. "hello" "hello?" [pause] "hello!?" "Phil, I think you're phone is messed up again." "hello?" "I think someone is there, but maybe they can't hear me" "If anyone is there, you're going to have to talk louder...I can't hear you" [at this point they are pretty much yelling on the other end] The same guy kept calling and my bro did this for many nights...eventually he stopped calling. Quite funny
  23. that's awesome...I hope it's good. I'm a Lego maniac...probably the biggest on this board...lol. I have a an entire room of my house devoted to nothing but Lego (tho I haven't done much with it for like 2 yrs...it's a total mess). I even have an official certificate from a building contest I did in 1980.
  24. I saw Social Distortion last Friday night (7/13/07) in Veneta, OR at an outdoor venue...good time. I'm going to see Comeback Kid and Rise Against next Tuesday in Portland...woohoo!
