  1. Personally, I always hated it...about as appealing as watching Family Matters or Full House. It's only been in recent years that I can even stand Will Smith in movies.

Fantastic show. Tho I haven't seen any of season 3 yet. I don't think it's like british humor at all, but whatever. IMO, the real gem performances are Elizabeth Perkins and Kevin Nealon, but the entire cast is great. Awesome theme song too. :)

It'll be interesting to see how many Colberticans in other states write him in.
  4. When I was about 9 I was in the library at school. It was sometime not too long after halloween. Some older kids were talking and I heard one them say he got 2 Baby Ruth's. I quickly chimed in, bragging how many Butterfingers I had gotten trick-or-treating. They just stared at me and started laughing...turns out he'd said "Babe" Ruth's..they were talking about baseball cards.
  5. You seem to be asserting that rap is the most popular genre of music, which is not the case. Rap and Hip Hop make up less than 15% of total music sales in the US (based on RIA survey).
  6. He's definitely one sick drummer...imo, 2nd only to the legendary Bill Stevenson (Black Flag, Descendents, Only Crime)
  7. Of all the bizarre threads on this board...this one takes the cake! Congrats...you are the King! All should bow down before you. As for ties...I've got some sweet ones from the 30's & 40's.
  8. Was and still is lego...my favorite set: I have over 400 sets, plus ~200 add'l pounds of "extra" pieces. I really haven't been doing anything with them recently (my lego room is a disaster!) and haven't bought many new sets in about 2 yrs. Frankly, I'm trying to figure out what to do with it all, as the room will need to be used for something else soon, so I'll either sell some or pack it all away for a while.
  9. I have personally witnessed UFOs on 2 separate occasions. The first was out in an orange grove at night. There was a fast moving object in the sky that made irradict changes in course. We saw it for only a few seconds before it was obscured by trees. The 2nd was above a suburban area near LA. We saw a oval object hovering approimately 800-1000 feet above the city in front and off to the left of us. As we kept driving, eventually we passed it until it was behind us and still to the left. The entire time it was completely oval (basically, we saw it from 3 sides) and stationary (a blimp, for example, would look oval, then round, then oval again, unless it rotated perfectly as we passed it). Frankly, it scared the crap out of us and we had the feeling that we had just witnessed the most significant event in history. We immediately turned on the radio expecting to hear news about it, but never heard any mention of it. I'm not saying either was alien spacecraft, but they were certainly unidentified flying objects.
  10. The Perry Farrell bit is hilarious! "He is a demon in human guise, and must be cast into the fiery chasm of Hell with all his works." That's followed by an urging to nuke Iran, then an article about how all women are [bleep], excuse me "harlots". A phrase I saw repeatedly on the site is "leftards"...yeah, real godly there, buddy. I think he'll be seeing Perry down there. :)
  11. I go thru phases...sometimes I'm really into music and listen a lot (usually when I've found some new stuff), but then sometimes I don't listen much at all (instead listen to audio books or movies I've seen many times). I have a problem with "over-listening" to my music...to the point at which it pretty much loses meaning to me (there are very few albums that I can still throw in a thoroughly enjoy every time). On average, I'd say I listen about 6 hrs./day
  12. Stardust http://imdb.com/title/tt0486655/ - I thought this was a truly wonderful movie. I'd call it a fairy tale movie. It incorporated many traditional fairy tale/fantasy elements along with some original (De Niro's lightning catching ship was very cool) and they blended perfectly. I never found myself questioning the existing of anything unusual and was able to accept all aspects of the "fairy tale" world. Michelle Pfeiffer was especially enjoyable, playing one of the witches. I recommend it. World Trade Center - While good, I didn't think it was as moving as United 93, in terms of reliving the feelings experienced on 9/11. The Weatherman - This movie seems to fall short for some reason. At times, it feels like Cage's character is akin to Spacey's char in American Beauty, but not with near the same impact. It does have a really good soundtrack though.

I drink both, but prefer beer, but I'm from the NW where if you aren't drinking good coffee, you're drinking good beer. They used to play a great commercial for a micro brew around here..."only in the NW will you find more choices of beer on tap at a restaurant than food choices on the menu" :)
  16. I thought the premiere was pretty good, however it's missing something. What I enjoyed so much about the 1st season was all the prophecy and working towards saving the world. You knew what needed to happen and that all these people with special powers were going to have to do it, but the fun was that you didn't know how the stories would interlace to accomplish the goal. In short, it was the plotline that made it great, not necessarily the characters. I hope they can develop into something like that regarding the "disease"...a greater plotline that really ties all the individual stories together, otherwise it could end up just a show about people with special powers.
  17. I love it when scientists prove something on a minute scale and apply in a more global sense. Just becuase some subatomic particle reacts in a certain way doesn't mean there's whole alternate universes. It's kinda like when they said they discovered teleportation (oh yeah, it's only with photons...not real objects with mass). I'm not saying discoveries like this can't lead to actual useful discoveries, but to say this proves it is inaccurate. Then again, these guys are a hell of a lot smarter than me, so who am I to criticize, eh?

Well, cops do have a certain leeway (actually a lot of leeway) in choosing whether or not to cite someone when they have broken the law. Most minor offenses are handled with a warning. When they are not, it is often because the person was confrontational or had prior incidents. However, that's not always the case, I have been involved in situations where the cop refused to allow any leniency for no apparent reason. For example, a friend was written a ticket for going 5 mph under the speed limit. All said, police can almost always find a reason to cite you, you have to do your best not give them any glaring reason to. In this particular situation, it's hard to say, as I wasn't there to witness it. Maybe you and your mom were confrontational with the officer and that's why he cited you. Maybe this particular cop writes up everyone for everything or maybe as you say he was just having a bad day. BTW - You have curfew? Why? Is this a CA thing? or Bakersfield? What time is curfew? just curious (never had one when I was growing up)
  20. That's funny, cuz as much as I love the 28 Days/Weeks Later movies, I don't really think of them as horrors....more of sci-fi/action/thriller. They don't scare me in the least, but that's probably cuz of the zombie theme (easily dismissed as not real in my mind, therefore don't scare me)
  21. I don't know that anyone ever classified it as horror (I know I certainly wouldn't). IMDB lists it as drama/mystery/thriller
  22. I think I'm in the minority here, but I don't have any problem with recent horror flicks. I think some people like to pick certain bad ones as examples and say they all suck, but there are lot and lots of REALLY bad older ones. I think it really comes down to what you want out of a horror...some like suspense, some like gore, some like disturbingly weird, some like supernatural, some like horror based in reality, some like completely made-up stuff. Personally, I'm a fan of all and can therefore judge a film for what it is, rather than what I wanted it to be.
  23. ooo...that's a good one! I was watching Forrest Gump this weekend and I think the scene where he breaks out of his leg braces running away from the bully kids is pretty good. Sure, it's been made fun of a lot ("run, Forrest, run!") and is kinda cheesey, but it still works.

Looking at that Wiki list, I'm surprised how many I didn't know were remakes! So many 80's & 90's remakes of old 30's & 40's films (and people say current hollywood can't come up with original ideas...LOL)
  25. pfilc23 replied to Harrington's topic in Off-Topic
To be honest, I didn't realise the original was based on a book? Anyway, I recon the original ending was pretty much the greatest ending I'd ever seen. Any remake would be hard pressed to top it, hence the reason Burton made one that made zero sense lol. ;) Like I said, it's been a long time, but I believe the book is similar. He leaves ape planet and thinks he's going back to earth. As he lands, everything looks normal, but it's apes inhabiting again (I think Burton added the "Ape" Lincoln Memorial). I believe this is the first time in the book that the reader ponders the possibility that it was earth all along, just in the future and then later in the future (if that makes sense). Anyway, I think the original movie's ending was extremely effective...as you say, one of the best ever. That said, I think it would be kinda lame for Burton to try to replicate it. It's been several yrs since I've seen either...this discussion makes me want to go watch both...LOL
