  1. I don't think that there would be any link to SoF or Solomon. Mark Gerhard originally comes from a security background and I'm confident that RuneScape will very shortly have a very good system for making our characters safe.
  2. I agree entirely with this. Btw, your post, great find (the screenshot). A few years back, Jagex came out of the idea with a USB dongle, and they even came out with a poll on it. I think the idea was scrapped because A) the poll indicated it wasn't financially feasible B) the majority of players only wanted it because it was supposed to come with extra bank slots since your account "was more secure" I'll go find the link. Edit: Why can't I find old polls? http://services.rune...em?allcat=false Thats the old newspost about it though. You have to remember that technology has improved since the idea was first proposed. The advent of smartphones means that large numbers of people could take advantage of a more secure system without physically buying a secure key.
  3. I agree about not allowing email. Unless you have 2-step on your email then its barely more secure than if you had nothing at all really. And if you do have 2-step on your email it would seem silly to use email as the second verification system for something else :S
  4. How would this work? Check out this thread http://forum.tip.it/topic/313950-2-step-verification-for-runescape-concept/ but yeah in short, its pretty much googles system.
  5. Don't want to sadden this great find, however, you can change the "1" to any number sequence and it loads the same page ("You do not have permission to access JagexHidden Testpage999999999.") Except none of the pages other than the one I have posted show in the Recent changes page.
  6. I'm not sure if i mentioned landline support in my original concept thread but I definitely agree with you there. As well as support for SMS and smartphone app there should definitely be audible codes as well not just for those without a cellphone but for visually impaired. A dedicated physical secure key could also be sold via the Jagex store for people with no access to a phone at all.
  7. I'm calling this. If I'm wrong then you can all beat me with a rubber chicken in central Varrock.
  8. It's slightly off topic when people are quoting national figures for one country (the USA) which might bear no resemblance to the age profile of the people that actually play Runescape. Plus any system they implement would be optional. I don't see how anyone could be against such a system. If you don't own a cellphone why would you want to prevent someone that does having a more secure account? It sucks that you can't take advantage of it but it's not like it's out of the realm of possibilities.
  9. This is wayyyy off topic now lol. I think i would be foolish not to even consider an OPTIONAL 2-step verification system using a mobile (cell) phone either via SMS or through an app for what is in reality a VERY small percentage of people (as a percentage of runescape players).
  10. From what I can tell from the Recent changes log the page as it stands contains 8765 characters. Bearing in mind that titles use code like ==Title== which adds extra characters to the count and images use code like [[File:Whatever.jpg]] it still comes out to a fairly large page. If it were ONLY letters it would be about the size of this quote.
  11. The picture was just a 2480 by 3508px grey box http://services.runescape.com/m=rswiki/en/Image:testmask123.gif
  12. Another large chunk of edits between 13.49 and 14.45. This image has also been uploaded.
  13. I'm not convinced entirely of the accuracy of that 2k list. It get's posted every now and then but the original source appears lost. I'm a fairly early player but I'm not sure if I really would be in the first 2,000 players. I remember the fishing skill coming out, that was pretty early in the game.
  14. Yes it's still very much worth getting. You can usually bank around 5 items before the special bar runs too low and it recharges reasonably quickly.
  15. Ok I might be a bit premature posting this here but noticed something on the official RuneScape wiki when I accidently clicked on a mods contributions. I noticed that today they have been making a page which currently is titled JagexHidden Testpage1. Now the page is protected which means noone buit Jmods can view it but I was able to decipher some details from looking at the edit history notes. I presume they are busy preparing the article on the wiki for an imminent update. There will be sections entitled: How do I disable Jagex Account Guardian? How can I enable Jagex Account Guardian on my RuneScape account? What happens if someone steals my password and I have Jagex Account Guardian enabled? What happens if someone else learns my security questions? Where can I get more advice about keeping my account secure? The page was created on the 29th August but large chunks were edited on it today. That's sadly about all I can glean from the wiki as the rest of the content is protected. Jmods have alspo been tweaking viewable pages relating to account security and phishing prevention as well over the last few days. Definitive proof that the guardian is being released wednesday? Possibly. Is this the oft requested 2-step verification system first proposed in 2008?! We'll have to wait and see.
  16. Consider activating 2-step verification on Facebook as well. That would help prevent malicious access,
  17. Been away for a few days and come back and read this. Makes for very interesting reading and i hope the account guardian works like this: http://forum.tip.it/...escape-concept/
  18. I suppose I find consolation in the fact that the only people that probably need to buy these extra bank spaces are those that have wasted their money on spins already and got loads of cosmetic crap.
  19. To be a partner you have to have monetisation enabled on at least one video of original content at some point.
  20. Knowing that the dupe of items and gold is now linked heavily to mass real world traders Jagex should offer cash rewards to anyone that finds these bugs (like Google does) as incentive for people to tell Jagex rather than sell the secret onto people intent on destroying the game.
  21. I've had similar with ending up in lumbridge. I think it's somethign to do with the game server losing track of where you are. Perhaps closing the laptop while still being logged in messed this up who knows. It might also have been a random event. Perhaps change your password just in case.
  22. Are Jagex devs banned for putting in new content without it being linked to the SoF or Solomon anymore? Half these things go completely against the lore of the game and look totally out of place.
  23. I suppose in theory you could run the mobile app in an Android emulator on a pc but how would you scan the barcode to sync with the secure system?
