I don't know how it is in Canada, but over here the taxes certainly don't pay for Ferraris and other luxury goods for the politicians... salaries are firmly capped compared to management positions in private companies.

The UN security council won't step in. As always, one of the vetoing members (in this case China) has too big an economical/political stake in the country to step in directly. The monks in Burma have always had a big political influence, all the way back to the nineteenth century when their protests blocked unpopular tax increases by the king. In Vietnam monks went as far as setting themselves on fire in the fifties to protest the America-backed oppressive dictatorship. The problem is that you simply can't look right when you have monks opposing you. A few months ago China decided to ban unlicensed reincarnations to try to gain control of the higher lamas in Tibet.

I tried to give my theory for the existence of perfect darkness on the first page... won't you even look at it... please...? :uhh:
  6. Prolonged exposure to a powerful stimulant like caffeine can have some pretty bad effects, like caffeine-induced sleep disorder and caffeine-induced anxiety disorder. It's also believed that as many about one in ten people suffer from mild caffeine addiction. Still, caffeinism isn't something to worry about too much compared to most addictions.
  7. I'd say a Halo movie is only a matter of time, considering how mainstream the game has become due to the popularity of its multiplayer. Producers are probably slinging multi-million dollar offers around even as we speak.

Well, you're not perfectly modest :-w
  9. Ok, since I seem to have sparked a separate discussion on the war in Iraq with my initial postings, I might as well give my solution for the war, which also happens to supply the American government with a massive wad of cash. 1) Withdraw all army personnel and equipment from the area, except for one aircraft carrier. That's all you need. Fill that aircraft carrier with crop-dusting planes. 2) Fill the planes with LSD, and dust any conflict zone with it non stop for a week or two. 3) Calmly talk it out. After two weeks straight on LSD, you'll notice some radical shifts in the convictions of even the most radical fundamentalists. 4) Invest all the money saved in restabalizing the economy. As weird as this may sound, LSD is one of the most efficient chemical weapons you could use. Anyone hit by a good blast is incapacitated for at least an hour, without killing them or damaging the infrastructure. It's pretty damn hard to put together a roadside bomb or operate an artillery battery when you're simultaneously discussing the finer points of Marxism with Papa Smurf.
  10. Barihawk: I should have made the distinction between Arab and native mujahadeen. Al Qaeda evolved from Maktab al-Khadamat, the organisation that was behind the funding and recruitment for the Arab mujahadeen. There's some dispute as to whether CIA has supported both these groups, but I believe that they have supported both. They followed the "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" doctrine to the letter.

Entry level sales jobs usually don't require much training. What really matters is how you present yourself to your employer. It's mostly just obvious stuff. Make sure your appearance is taken care of and show them that your communication skills are up to par. Judging from your CV, you can handle money and children, and have a casual interest in a very popular line of their products. The only real problem I can see with it is that you're lacking experience in retail.
  12. Age: 10-20 (for two more weeks :P) 1. Why did America invade Afghanistan in 2002? To oust the Taliban government for offering asylum to senior Al Qaeda members who were behind the 9/11 attacks. 2. Why did America invade Iraq in 2003? To establish control of the Iraqi oil reserves and expand their strategic foothold in the region by installing a puppet government similar to that of Persia in the 70s and Vietnam in the 50s. 3. Who is the U.S. military fighting in Iraq today? Various sectarian groups who are fighting for control of the country and its economic resources now that the balancing force of Saddam Hussein has been removed. 4. Who is Osama Bin Laden? A skeleton in the American closet that has come back to haunt them. He is determined to fight the opponents of Islam to the death. In the 80s the main opponent was the Soviet Union, an opponent he shared with the United States. Jumping at a chance to have someone else do their dirty work the CIA funded, armed and trained the mujahadeen, Muslims fighting against the Soviets in Afghanistan during the invasion in the 80s. Al Qaeda is a direct spinoff of the mujahadeen. Now that America is the enemy of Islam, he uses the arms, funds and training on them. I watch news and read newspapers daily, as well as several news sites.

Actually, I think perfect darkness might be possible in real life within certain definitions: - Light as the presence of photon particles. - Darkness as the absence of light, making perfect darkness the complete absence of light. Now, if it were technologically possible to remove all photons from a container made from a material that can't be penetrated by photons and then seal that container, wouldn't the inside of that container be perfect darkness? Considering the way quantum physicists can juggle particles, I think that the former might be technologically possible, and there are plenty of materials that block all photons.
