  1. I was afraid people would sort of misunderstand that. I wasn't trying to directly compare flag holding to rigging a deck of cards. I was just trying to point out that just because a game's rules don't specifically say you can't do something, doesn't mean you can. Rigging a deck of cards is obviously cheating, no debate. I feel this topic does, however, bear debating. I don't personally find it cheating, or unfair, or even a dirty tactic, just a little, not exactly sure what. If I'm playing Castle Wars, and the enemy gets his own flag, I grin and bear it, chase him down, and we eventually kill him, usually on the stepping stones in the river.
  2. These are only part of the Merriam-Webster definitions. I feel you got the wrong definition for cheat in this case You listed a transitive definition, which would be used for a phrase like "cheating death". Since the original question was basically "Is it cheating to hold your team's flag?", cheating has no direct object, instead it has the prepositional phrase "to hold your team's flag".** As for the intransitive definitions, the one that applies to this example is definition 1 (cheat at cards). Now, my stance on this used to be that, it's not against the rules, so it's not cheating, only a matter of if it's fair. By definition 1b, this is the case. However, according to 1a, something that is unfair can be considered cheating. For example, I don't think it is against the actual rules in card games to look at another player's cards, or to rig the deck. However, these are still considered cheating, because you would be using fraud and trickery. So, if flag holding could be considered trickery, then yes, it is cheating. I do still believe that it is not really cheating, but by definition, some could consider it to be. As for if it is fair, the dictionary also says: Therefore, if people do not consider flag holding to be impartial and honest, or free from favor toward either side, then it is not fair. Again, since the game is impartial and equal, I would have to say it is fair, but is still debatable. I just feel it is not in the spirit of the game. It seems somewhat unsportsman-like. **I THINK this is right. I am in no way an expert in the rules of English Grammar. However, I did do a bit a research and am pretty sure I am correct in the meanings of transitive and intransitive verbs.
  3. Being able to put that you can typed 70 wpm on your resume is will give you a much better chance of being hired for a job that requires typing than starting at 45 wpm and building the skill at work.
  4. Aww I gotta work all day saturday this week. And this seems like a really fun event.
  5. I wouldn't mind if F2P got achievement capes. Like alot of people have said, it's harder to get 99 stats on F2P, so they "deserve" a reward for it more. But I don't think it should have the same bonuses as on members worlds. It just seems to overpowered for a F2P cape. I do like the portal idea though. I think it would be stupid for all the masters to be moved to F2P areas. We just need a creative place to put them.
  6. Each team plays to win. By definition, each team is out to ruin the game for the other team. So, cheating for you is defined as seeking to achieve the goal of the game? Have you ever done anything competitive in your life? Sports? Xbox Live? Extreme Chess? Anything? I've played quite a few sports. I believe there is a saying that goes something like "It's not whether you when or loose, it's how you play the game." Just because you loose doesn't mean the game was ruined. What does ruin the game is going up against an opponent that you just can't beat. Trunks ol' bud, the problem with that point is that both teams have that ability. It'd be cheating if only one team could do it, but since both teams are on a level playing field it can't really be considered cheating. If the other team is strong enough to flaghold and your team isn't, they're probably already stronger and more strategic than your team anyways, so "going up an opponent you just can't beat" most likely has little to do with flagholding. I didn't say it was cheating, just that it isn't fun. I've been on teams before where we did eventually manage to kill the flag holder, usually on the rocks so it goes back to their castle. The problem is, once someone gets their own flag, it takes the pressure off their castle, and requires more force from the other team on the flag holder. This not only gives the flag holding team better defence, but also allows them to get the other teams flag more easily. So by the time we do finally get the flag back, we're too far down to make a comeback. Not only that, but once people realize the other time has it's flag, alot of people leave and try to get on the other team, even further decreasing the chances of a successful comeback. I've been on teams before when we got our own teams flag too. Once that happens, there's really nothing left for me to do on that side either. So I personally don't find flag holding matches fun from either side, even if I'm winning. Edit: Ok, looking back now, I suppose I was referring to an argument that was calling it cheating. However, it was still not my intention to say flag holding is cheating.

  8. It is still what people are doing. They use the ladders in the center of the map to avoid attackers.
  9. That's a HORRIBLE analogy, at least until you tell us where to get a +9 all defense +4 prayer cape for 99k elsewhere... the quest cape doesn't have the pray bonus but it's still cheaper than the obby cape, so in my opinion that makes the obby cape the vanity cape between those two. I just love when people quote half of what I say.... After that point, I did say that if you are actually wearing the cape for it's bonuses, then yes, it is annoying, and to just say you're busy and ignore the person if requests continue (or something like that). But I don't think someone standing in a bank trading or something really needs that extra 9 defense and 4 prayer. If I am out fighting something, and need those bonuses, then you'd better bet I'm not gunna turn my back on an enemy to do my emote for you.
  10. There are rocks right by the entrance to the kurask room that you can use, but you ca only reach a few from there, and one can come at a different angle and attack you. The rocks on the other side of the room ar much better. I think its the NW corner. there is a small 1 square wide path between the rocks and the wall you can slip in, and the kurasks can't reach you.
  11. 7/10 not 100% sure if it is you, but I remember a boris from here.
  12. Well, I guess they could "persuade" people to "volunteer".....

  14. You do realize that they look at what has been said over the past minute right? One of my best friends has two 99 skill capes and a quest cape. We try holding a conversation and we get bombarded by at least four people asking for his emote. Turn off chat you say? That doesn't make them stop following you. How about when I was fishing and he came over to keep me company? A level 37 kept following him asking for money(My friends was wearing full dragon). He kindly said no. The 37's reply? "Well I'll just keep following you and asking until you do." So he followed. And he repeatedly said "money please money please money please money please " THAT is begging not asking for one thing and then leaving with a no. The only people who would consider being polite begging are the ones who are immature, shouldn't be playing the game due to age, and are soon to be banned due to false reporting. First of all I'm not clear on what you mean in the underlined part. Polite begging? Second of all, that's harassment, and I believe it's reportable (rule 1, but a double check can't hurt). The small cases of begging is like someone calling someone a noob. It's not enough to get you reported, it's only when the person is insisting to the extreme, just like bombarding them with offensive insults. I get a lot of "do the emote", when I don't want to answer I get all kinds of responses but none of them are serious, they will give up after a while. That is harassment but not severe. Usually you report someone when they are harming you (for rule 1 at least). He was saying that the people who would consider politely asking for favors as begging are immature people who shouldn't be playing. The problem is, they are playing, and in high numbers apparently.
  15. it heals prayer actually, to be more accurate. and no @ kq it probably would not be helpful since her def is high and you usually need a good considerable amount of prayer points to kill her, instead of 1-15 points. In the quest it is used to turn off an NPC protection prayer. Nick might have been thinking about using the mace to turn off the KQs protection prayers. Outta curiosity, what happens if you use the special on another player using a protection prayer?
  16. 6 I've seen you around a bit Yea, I haven't played it any, but I read it for a quick chuckle every now and then. I'm mostly in rants, so I doubt I'll know many people here, or that many will know me......
  17. 1.5 I've only seen you once in the you're banned game.
  18. I'm not gunna try to persuade you guys to take it off. It would be pretty pointless to have a cape you never wear. But what you do have to understand is, depending on which cape you have, they are mostly for showing off, especially the quest cape, so you have to expect comments about it. It would be like an actor trying to bring up a movie he was in during a conversation, then getting mad when asked for autographs. That's why when I wear my quest cape, I am usually willing to take the time to do my emote if asked, I am asking for it by wearing it. However, I can see it being a bit annoying if you are actually using that level 100 stat, like in cooking on something. Just tell them you are busy at the moment, and then ignore them. No, I'm not saying turn off chat. I'm not saying add them to your ignore list. I'm saying just pretend their not there. It's not like you actually have to hear every "plz, plz, plz, plz, plz" pounding on your ear drums. If they wanna waste their time, that's fine. Don't let them waste yours. And THAT is a violation of rule one. He has clearly stated his intention to spam you, and then has proceeded to do so, and is therefore already reportable.
  19. The dragon mace has a nice prayer bonus, and is stronger than the mace.
  20. Well, first of all, you would get little report happy wannabe mods that decide to report you for every little thing you ask, like borrowing an antipoison when you are in the middle of nowhere with 6 hp left. Second, there would be a very fine line between what is begging, and what is simply asking for a small favor. I'm more than happy to give out extra food, or antipoisons, or smith some steel for a newer player, or go a few minutes out of my way to lead someone to Al Kharid on my trip from Dranor to Varrock. The other day I was walking around in f2p, and someone was walking around very politely asking "Excuse me. Can I ask you a question? Do you have any extra runes I can have? I need fire and mind." When he was told no, he'd say "ok, sorry for taking your time", and go on to the next person. I gave him 3k fire runes, and showed him where to start rune mysteries, telling him he could make his own minds in no time. Yet I'm sure other people would consider some of that begging. It's really not that big of a deal. If you won't help you out, just say no, ignore them and go on with what you are doing. It's not like it actually interferes with your game play. I don't even waste time adding them to my ignore list.
