  1. Which means nothing for RuneScape due to the fact it's in a different "universe". Not to mention that the U.S. is, in fact, NOT in a recession. There was something like 1% growth the first quarter (Jan.-March) and something like 3% growth over the the latest quater. As for Runescape, my guesses are: 1) School starting and people selling out their banks before they go f2p for the schoolyear. 2) Some MAJOR panic selling. 3) What's stated in the post above mine. 4) Item duping (there's a thread on the RSOF about this (74-75-475-57531014; it's locked already, so don't expect it to be there much longer). I hope it's not happening, but it's definitely a possibility). 5) A combination of the first 3 and, possibly, the 4th.
  2. There's that ^^ And there're also the possibilities that people are just panic selling and/or Jagex is playing with us (unlikely, but can anyone prove anything either way?). The panic selling concept has been seen in many items throughout RS history (although not on this scale; pretty much all GWD items are dropping along with the DFS and several other high-end items). OR it could be that people are seeing the 3rd age prices rising and are selling out their other high-end items hoping to be able to get some 3rd age once the prices settle. There are plenty of possibilities, but these are the ones that I see as the most influential (minus the manipulation by Jagex part; although that, again, is unprovable either way). Personally, I'm just glad I sold my BGS a few days before the prices started dropping. \
  3. No then it would be really easy to inflate prices It's based off the transactions that take place not the offers. This is why I say that the uncompleted terades should be used if the completed ones fail to change anything over a set amount of time (maybe 1-3 days depending on the item in question). Also, as already stated, with the prices stuck as they are, people who can't/won't junk trade (probably a very large portion of the market) just hold onto their items. This decreases the number up for sale and just pushes junk "values" even higher. As the GE prices get higher and higher, more and more people will begin selling until it hits a high point at which almost everyone will begin selling and prices will just plummet back down before hitting a low point, bouncing back up some, repeating the process several times over until the prices level off and "restart" their slow descent that happens to every high-end non-"rare." How high they have to get, how far down they will fall, and the price they level out at is anyone's guess, but that's how supply and demand work with the GE.
  4. And yes, I know he's a mahjarrat. I meant more of a tangible form. Apparently the people trying to resurrect him aren't aware that they cannot get involved directly, either that or they know something we don't. I think it's more of a "If we can get him back here, he can defeat Guthix" than a lack of knowledge of the edicts. Evil usually doesn't care about rules, also.
  5. @ Death_Dude74: I agree with your first paragraph. There is no way to determine if drop rates have truly changed. I also have to say that I have seen the ideas expressed in your second and third paragraphs at work, but it would also be possible for Jagex to still remove money from the game via the GE without our knowing. How are any of us to know if the person on the other side of the trade didn't put in their offer originally for 48 coins and Jagex is taking out 1 coin per bread bought? It's simple: we can't because there simply isn't any way for us to check and see if this is happening or not. Your views on the 5 hour limit are also legitimate and I see the merit in them, but, as pointed out already, most people don't understand these limits because most people simply don't read the Knowledge Base and/or go on the forums (both the RSOF and fansites) where they could find out about these things. Heck, I'd even go so far as to say that a large portion of players don't even read most newsposts or the messages given upon login. If Jagex is going to impose limits like these, then they need to seriously think about better ways to inform people of them rather than just sitting back and watching people wonder why their offers aren't going through. The reason for P ess's initial rise after the Dec. 10 and Jan. 2 updates was because of the loss of autoers and the massive amount of speculation going on because of it. The most recent price rise was probably due to people trying out the new altar tabs. This rise, however, has officially ended and is being reversed due to the end of the initial hype and the fact that people can now get up to 1k ess in 20 mins or less via the new minigame (where they also gain RC experience). However, the increase in ess production is also being matched with an increase in rune production via the new tele tabs. It will be very interesting to see how all this plays out (especially if Jagex really is manipulating prices to reduce profitability). As for the herblore "dilemma," I have also heard similar stories about quite a few different items and I wouldn't rule what the OP is saying. I do, however, see a possible increase in herblore profitability in the near future with the release of the "PK worlds" where PKers begin to buy up super sets and other such potions helpful in combat and push prices back up. Don't get your hopes up too high, though; increased profitability could just lead to more people raisning herblore and driving ingredient prices higher to cancel out the potion price increase. Again, it will be interesting to see how it all plays out (especially if Jagex really is manipulating prices to reduce profitability). Also, Revenga was talking about making money via refining skills rather than gathering skills. Smithing platebodies and selling them used to be much more profitable than smelting bars and selling those, for example (many such changes came with the introduction of skillcapes). His comments were [likely] about how, in order to profit off of skilling nowadays, you are most likely going to have to gather your own supplies rather than just buying them. EDIT: I'm not saying that anyone's views are incorrect, but that it's possible that Jagex really is doing what the OP is suggesting and that we need to be careful about what we believe at this point. Personally, I'm leaning towards the idea that Jagex is simply trying to take out ways to make money quickly. Just look at the price ceilings/floors and dependencies (like those shown in the herblore market). The fact that Jagex isn't allowing prices of many items to fall low enough to be alched/sold to stores for profit is enough evidence. Not to mention the lack of concern for the stagnant phat, 3rd age, etc. prices.
  6. You're leaving out the fact that you get exp while playing the game itself (not to mention it's double exp). It would be interesting to see who gets more exp/hour: someone going with the "old" way or someone spending a while at TGOP before hitting the altars with tabs.
  7. I don't have anything against MySpace or FaceBook users, but I have to agree with most of the people on this thread. If someone's on the internet, they should be have up-to-date antivirus software. I can see (and have) see how people just neglect their computer's safety with the mentality that "it only happens to other people" or that "the chances of that happening to me are too small for me to need to worry." People take the same attitude with seatbelts and many other things in life where THEY ARE SPECIFICALLY TOLD HOW TO PROTECT THEMSELVES and look at what happens to them. :wall: You'd think that, by now, it'd be common sense to use every easily accessible safety measure there is, but obviiously some people just refuse to learn from other peoples' mistakes and end up having to learn from their own (if they learn at all, that is). :wall:
  8. If they ever get to that point at which nobody will buy them, then people wishing to sell will just lower their prices until people begin buying again. It's called supply and demand and it's in control no matter how much anyoone tries to get in its way. Price manipulators try to force people to pay higher prices by not being willing to lower prices. Others just shove them out of the way with lower prices that people will pay. Governments (or in our case, Jagex) try to control prices with price floors, ceilings, dependencies, and systems to try to keep prices steady, but we can all see what's happened because of those. Supply and demand, no matter how hard anyone tries, will always make sure an item(s) is at a price that people will sell and buy said item(s) for.
  9. I'd never heard of Miniclip until I saw threads about it here (same as with this "Kong" site) either, but maybe I just don't browse the internet enough. :XD: Whetherit attracts more noobs or not, Jagex is a business and, to them, it's a good move that means more money.
  10. The way I understand it, you won't be able to loot kills in the dangerous wars, so no RWT that way. Quite pointless IMO. Personally, I'd just forget about the dangerous option, but I guess some people just like the thought of making others lose things while taking the chance of the same happening to them. Also, here's a pic of an interface for the new Clan Wars: And, yes, that is an official picture released by Jagex. Check the August BTS if you don't believe me.
  11. You pay people to suicide? :XD: Oh, and nice one with the poison. I did the same thing once at the end of a Kril trip. Teled to my house with exactly 16 hp and the poison killed me about 2 seconds later. Oh, and good luck with those goals. Personally, I had fun fishing and wcing and with my other 99's. Well, all except hunter. I had to play a few games of Castle Wars every day for that one. :XD:
  12. Very nice articles. Well done to both of you. =D> As for what I want, I'd say a fixed GE (get rid of these price floors, ceilings, and dependencies and make the GE able to adjust via uncompleted trades when completed ones fail to do anything), more Castle Wars maps (I still love the one we have, but additional ones would be awesome), and more updates to existing content that is never used (I can't think of any good examples right now, but you know they're there).
  13. Sure they lost a large piece of demand when staking ended and pking got changed beyond recognition, but that doesn't mean they can't go back up again. The law of supply and demand will, eventually push for prices to rise as supply continues to slowly fall (people with rares quitting, getting banned, etc.) and demand slowly rises (new players gaining wealth and entering the market). I'll admit, Jagex has done a good job keeping the demand as low as they can with high-quality, expensive items like GS's and skill capes, but unless they manage to keep adding things similar to these, prices have nowhere to go but up. As for santa hats in particular, what happened was that people saw the polls and expected the demand for santas to rise, so they went and bought some thinking they could make a few million by buying low and then selling again when the price got high enough. This then created a large demand for santas and the prices rose. However, once the price reached the point where nobody wanted to buy any more, people panick sold and the price is now plummeting back down because of the increased supply (from people dumping their santas onto the GE) and the lack of demand at those prices. I can see them dropping down below where they were "originally," but I bet they stabilise at a price a bit higher than that.
  14. The mute for saying "wat" a bunch was for spamming, not being offensive (and yes, it is in the rules(look here)). Also, I personally just don't say anything that could be taken as offensive unless I know only friends are there (like at GWD or in a "private" clan chat) or in IRC. So far, that policy's worked pretty well. Also, never say you're sorry in appeals; I hear it makes you just get the auto-message even faster. As for the thread starter, I'm sorry to hear you got muted for something as dumb as that, but you have to remember where you are and be careful. Good luck with the mute and everything.
  15. My experience in f2p as of late is limited. I've only been there once in several months, but that one time I went (the day item lending came out), I took my rares out and the only people to say anything to me were a bunch of people saying "nice mask/santa" and this one kid who wanted me to run him all over varrock to do "The Shield of Arrav." Then I went back to p2p and got spammed with "can I barrow joor rare?" :XD: IDK, maybe I was just on the wrong world or something. :-k
  16. Useless?! That place is involved in the best way to mine gold (remember that mine right next to the tower you blow your whistle under to get there during the quest?). :P
  17. It's the place where the Holy Grail is. Quests ftw. :XD:
  18. Lieing is bad. :shame: It's still there. I just checked on the in-game map. I hope they make a [high-level] quest involving it. I wouldn't really care if they did take it away for good, but a quest taking us [back] there could be quite interesting.
  19. I can see how it'll be nice between friends, but I doubt I'll be using it very often. Probably because I'm too independent-minded and all I have to lend out are a couple rares and a zammy spear, anyways. Oh, and I took my rares to f2p for a while... Nobody asked to borrow them... I did have a kid following me trying to get me to lead him through Shield of Arrav, though. :XD:
  20. Especially when the idea behind one is stupid... 10k a minute? That's 600k an hour. Not exactly uninviting to RWT'ers. How about, instead of lessening the trade limits, we get a petition going to fix the GE? Something that would truly benifit every honest player.
  21. 1. Fighting equipment, money and tele jewelery 2. Runes, Rc equipment, and staves 3. Mining, smithing, and crafting 4. Fishing, cooking, and just food in general 5. Herblore and herb seeds 6. Wc, tree seeds, Fm, and construction 7. Summoning 8. Clue scroll supplies 9. Quest and minigame items, achievement capes, pets, and rares
  22. It remembers your last withdraw or deposit figure. Kind of useful, but I haven't sued it much yet. All-in-all a good set of updates (the ring probably won't leave my bank too often, though). I can't wait for the wilderness quest
  23. Now I have to get 83 summoning. :wall: :XD: Oh, and it's not only [going to be] nice for getting to the KBD, but for getting back there if you die. :XD:
  24. It might not be the main reason behind the price rise, but it certainly is one. Also, it seems that, once an item's price goes significantly outside of the GE's price range (to where most people stop trading them through the GE), those without the junk to boost their prices just decide not to sell and the price rises higher and higher as fewer and fewer people continue selling. This, unfortunately, can only be fixed by Jagex (if you can get enough people to throw their 3rd age items on the GE to bring it up to speed, I'd be flabergasted). Several people, myself included, have already been pushing several ideas that Jagex could use to fix this, but nobody knows for sure when or what they will do.
  25. My guess as to why 3a is like this is because of all the new TT items out there... More possible items to get = less chance of getting those that were there before = fewer coming into the game while demand continues rising at same rate as before = Higher prices. As for junk trading and what to do about it, I'm thinking about just copying and pasting all my posts from earlier threads since you seem to be using the same arguments as everyone else against junk trading and getting Jagex to fix the GE.
