'Acceptance'

I've noticed around my school, that people are always trying to impress one group or another, to try and be 'Accepted' by them. I made my group of friends by saying hi, and he introduced me to the others.

But, I think I should be ashamed of myself today. My other friend who I have known since year 7 said 'You're not hanging out with them today, you are hanging out with us.' Now 'us' is the 'cool' group in my year. Apparently, I've impressed them. The thing I'm ashamed about, was I went along with it. I just abandoned my friends!

I think you have to have a very strong mental strength not to care what other people think, and that mine wasn't strong enough.

What are your views on this?

At small schools like mine you don't really have to worry about that crap :)

Sure there are different groups of friends, but its too small for people to completely abandon one group for another :P

Me, I've always hated the idea of being "popular" and sticking out above everyone else, dunno why really. Never really had that kind of problem I guess :? . Anyways, the jocks hang out with the "nerds", there are no cool kids of cliques (never knew how to spell that..), everyone's just friendly and nice. Actually, everyone's smart and athletic and giving too. It gets kind of annoying after a while.

My friend, the cool kid always end up as the loser that collects your trash in the morning. Do not associate yourself with them!

Ah, let's not forget the myth that the smart kid is going to be their boss one day.

Man, people have way too much faith in karma.

[if you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or

by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature.]

Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.

That cliche' is used a bit too much. I'm sure SOME of them do, but most of them do not. All the "cool" kids in my school are in college, and I only know about a few of the "losers", and they're not doing much of anything with their life, so...

It's the SMART "losers" that wtfpwn you in life, the regular ones aren't special. :P

Hmm I wonder what category you belong to :-k

I don't think it's a cliche, generally if you work hard you'll end up doing well for yourself while if you hang around smoking and dossing lessons you're screwed. It's even the same for girls, for example a girl I saw the other day, in school she used to be really hot but arrogant. Now she's pretty fat, well chubby anyway. Surely that is proof that karma is real?

As much as presents under your tree on christmas morn is proof that Santa is real.

So explain how she was hot but now is fat :x

Also why did you say 'morn', this isn't the 17th century Parabola.

You've got me bang to rights there. I can't. Flat out impossible. I did initially think she might have started eating unhealthily, or stopped taking adequate exercise, but I stopped and realised karma is a better explanation.

The moment took me. Your reasoning was on a par with witch hunt reasoning of the 17th century so I thought it might be what you're accustomed to.

I mostly hung out with "cool" people. I did my fair share of making fun of people, but I always did it just for laughs and not to hurt people...Never really singled anyone out...Most people just think I was pretty funny and tend to believe I liked everyone, because I talked to everyone and didn't care much about cliques.

But uh, why does that matter? :P

And yea, like I said, SOMETIMES it works out that way...Most of the people who smoked, drank and wasted time are now in college...Where I can only imagine they smoke, drink, and waste time, but whatever. I never drank or smoked anything in my life (I'm 20! GG!) so I'll be going to college for education, not drinking classes.

Also, I saw that edit :shame:

My GOD! You saw me edit my post? My life is destroyed.

You tout that as though it's some manner of weapon against me, as though it somehow makes me wrong. Why do you think it bears mentioning?

And yes, it was a capitulation. I concede and prostrate myself before a man of pure, undeniable logic.

Psychologically, acceptance is a huge motivator, and people really strive for any form of it. But for you to abandon a group you were already accepted with is just insulting to them and greedy of you. Those guys are most likely your true friends, and once this new clique gets tired of you, I'm not sure if they're going to want you back the way you treated them like they didn't exist.

Fact - The amount of presents under your christmas tree is directly proportional to how much positive karma you have. :anxious:

Fact - Money is also a huge part. No money? No presents no matter how much positive karma you have, no matter how much you have sacrificed for someone else, no matter what you have done to help everyone else out when you get nothing in return, no matter your intention, no matter...

Kinda weird to see people trying to "earn" respect to people they will never see in their lifetime. Not saying you should not be respectful, but its kinda of funny to see people say "you lost my respect".

Okay, lost a guys respect who is hundreds or thousands of miles away. Oh dear, what ever shall I do? That 1 person out of 6 billion... I must.. faint. :ohnoes:

Yea, my schools just as small, maybe even smaller (650 kids in Middle School and High School combined, 250 in high School), and we don't really have this sort of thing, everyone accepts everyone pretty much.
