britrockdude
Okay, the editor's last article got me thinking. I'm one of those "early 20s gamers" that Jagex use to pander towards. I'm 21, and I've been playing the game for a couple years now, and I enjoy it, but I swear there seems like there's so many immature people on the game. On the other hand, I've met some people who must be very mature for their age. Right, it all comes down to it, the woman in my life says that I am 'creepy' for 'playing a game with a bunch of 12 year olds' when I'm really only in it for the lvls, and I love fantasy games (I just can't be bothered to pay 3 times the price every month, not to mention theres no F2P option on World of warcraft which I guess is a game that mostly people my age play. I'm not asking for people's ages (that actually would be creepy), but at least, tell me if I am too old for runescape and if I should be playing some other game instead. Dragon_lord
Only YOU can tell yourself if you are too old to play RS or not. I know what it feels like to have your significant other not approve of your playing, but that's really your decision. Plus, I know people who are over 40 years old and play more often than I do. Just enjoy the game. Pretty much what Dragon said.Thread terminated.I guess that means I'm the thread Terminator? No Tip.Iters were harmed in the making of this post. britrockdude
Ah, but I've already "taken the plunge" if you will. She's my wife, I just thought that'd already make me sound too old! She says she doesn't want me to pay to play it, but thats what makes it interesting! Ah well, it's quite funny actually, she wanted to be a member a few months ago, didn't seem creepy when she did it! I'll just have to put my foot down here, stand up for myself and my 'geek' ways! (i'm 34) no! you are not too old to play imo. do you enjoy playing it? if so then play it! who cares what other people think? there are alot more adults playing this game than you think (many of the top 16 are adults lol) Runescape nick : Fat_SlugOwner of Ears, Scythe and a 10 year veteran cape :D
britrockdude
I think thats my main problem, is that there's no real way to prove theres a lot of older people on the game as you're always taking somebody's word for it! I do believe a lot of people that are top of it are older players. Especially mentioning the editor's last times article where he mentions that kids will play for a bit and then lose interest. Whereas I've occasionally lost interest and stopped playing for a while, but then I just start playing again. It just is so much better to play a game where you're really only in competition with yourself, or everybody else and you can decide it! I'd much rather that than buy a $50 game every month. Dragon_lord
Remember, when you're standing up to your wife, you are standing up for geeks everywhere! (geek=good nerd=bad). As long as we have RS, we can be homeless bums with a computer for all we care! :ohnoes: Pretty much what Dragon said.Thread terminated.I guess that means I'm the thread Terminator? britrockdude
She is very special to me, so I'll see if I can come to some sorta compromise without her getting angry, and without me not having to stop playing RS. When I quit RS, it's going to be my darn decision! Thanks for the responses so far, good to know there are people out there my age and older playing RS and/or other MMORPGS! =D> Main Goal; To have all skills 50+ My avatar is: The Shins- Oh Inverted World

Harrington
I'm 29, but as it turns out, the vast majority of the people on my friends list are a similar age or older. D. V. Devnull
Hey, britrockdude, you're DEFINITELY NOT too old to be playing RuneScape. I know of many people older than me who play! Way off-topic: I am 23, I know loads and loads of people my age and alot higher, keep playing. I love this game and I wouldn't stop playing for anyone! Geez, and I've been arguing with you? :-s ... Now I'm kinda interested in you! :D ... BTW, I'm 24 myself, but sadly, I live way around the world! ... Argh, this sucks(/vacuums/etc.), big time! :( ... Bah, better luck finding a guy (other than me) who likes RuneScape and would be willing to live their life taking time to play RuneScape with their love! (Sure, I meet that criteria, but being stuck at home with my parents, unable to do anything with my life, really shoots me down. I'm gonna end up dying single and never 'married+in love'. :x ) ~Mr. Devnull and normally with a cool mind.(Warning: This user can be VERY confusing to some people... mirage
I know you didnt ask for ages, but I getting ready to turn 21 and I still play. Just like you I am into fantasy and this is a game I enjoy. I dont care what other people think and all my friends have just accepted that this is what I choose to play instead of the x-box with them. Not everyone that plays is 12 and infact I met many of people that are even well into there adult hood and are parents and even grandparents, try playing real late at night sometime. Every one has their own reasons for playing, kids usually enjoy it cause its a game they can afford, I have noticed that young adults enjoy the interaction with others and that it allows them to relax from school or work, and older adults seem to be either the same as young adults or because this is something they are able to with their children. So really you are only to old to play when YOU feel you are to old and your lady is just going to have to learn to accept that. Hope you figure it out, and in the mean time PEACE!! P.S. you may pm me in game any time ya want, im always looking for fellow players my age to chat with. ~ Jt Mirage ~ Current goal: Getting enough prayer pots to finish my last four quests. diefladermas
I had this same issue with my wife...she gave in when she realized how cheap it was. I'd stress that...its $5 a month. If you're interested in RS, you must play other games, offer to offset the $5 by not buying another game for awhile or something. Elvarg the Magic Dragon, Lives by the sea... vlad_the_old
You bits of kids! *waves cane in a grumpy manner* Be assured that there players in their 40s, 50s and above who play and enjoy this game. And yes, most of us realise it can be seen as 'creepy' so make sure we let kidlets that we interact with in game know that we may well have items of clothing that are older than them! Thanks to 4be2jue for the sigs. Hugh_Mannity
Well I'm considerably older than you. So are most of my in-game friends. I don't think it really matters -- as long as you aren't behaving inappropriately, and if you were I doubt you'd be asking for our advice. I've been a gamer since the stone age. Or was it the Atari age? I'm getting so old I can't remember, it was back in the last milenium sometime, when Bill Gates was still a few bucks short of his first million. I don't intend to stop -- unless someone comes up with something better.
Laikrob
I am older than you, too. And female, who has experienced the same with guys - except as a female you're also accused of playing to find guys "since everyone knows only guys play video/computer games." :wall: Tell your wife that every hour you spend playing this $5 a month game, is one hour less drinking with the guys and flirting with girls at the local joint. (Well, might wanna leave out that last part... :anxious: ) The point is that you are SAVING money, because you'd have some other - probably more expensive - hobby instead. And this way she knows where you are and she can find you if she feels left out. Good luck! Laikrob. You're accusing me of bigotry, how ironic. It's a nice attempt at argument, but your responses are facile and asinine, if not diatribe. Who's arrogant now?
