warri0r45
There is no 100% proof that ive seen. To be honest, id rather go around polluting everywhere than drive an electric car. You can call me an ignoble savage, but i dont care. Everyone else can reduce their emissions, i dont want to, its my planet as well. ~Jimmie If it's your planet as well, as you say, then you should take some responsibility by at least having a better attitude about it. You're coming across as the typical responsibility shirker. It's not a fact, I don't believe it, so I'll pollute all I want... In my opinion that's a seriously poor attitude to have. What's going to happen when we suddenly run out of fossil fuels, or is converting to non-renewables all someone elses problem too?
warri0r45
I really don't know what all the discussion is about. Mars is also heating up. It's obviously the Sun doing something different. That may well have something to do with it, but the discussion I'm trying to put foreward is that the position of shirking responsibility and passing the blame gives us the illusion that we can pollute forever and burn all the fossil fuels we want without repercussions. The major falult I see with that way of thinking is that we won't have a plan suffiecient to keep society as we know it from imploding due to an energy crisis. If we want to get serious about sustainability and keeping our race intact, we really do have to take a good look at ourselves and try and cast aside debate in favour of future planning. redserpent4
No, don't make assumptions before it actually happens, typical liberal. I have two problems with this already zezima. Firstly, you are a hypocrit. You are saying im making assumptions before i know everything: pretty much what you did by calling me a "typical liberal." Secondly you seem to fail to understand the point of predictions, they are assumptions before things actually happen. That's what all science is based on. You make a prediction of the result of something then you do it. Scientists say "Omg were gona die in 80 years humans r so baaaad" but what do you think could happen in 80 years. Think about it/ Fossil Fuel burning rates are going down, and we're starting to use more effishient (sp whatever) energy devices, such as hydro, solar, etc. If we're lucky we will be able to make 25% of our energy from renewable sources by 2025. Even with this we will probably run out of oil by 2040. I also had the idea of sound wave energy, that probably could work. Convert sound waves to energy mebbe? There's always sound waves and there will never be no soundwave. Then think of it like this: You would have to shout non-stop for about 2 years to boil a cup of coffee. That's a loud and annoying noise for 2 years for a tiny amount of energy. You would need an inconceivably massive amount of energy and noise to give a useful amount of energy to even power a small town. You would also have to collect every single joule of energy and this is almost impossible with soundwaves due to their large wavelength. darkforaster, You say when humans breathe we release water vapour. That is natural. What do you want us to do, stop breathing? Well, Mr. I know it all, feel free to stop breathing anytime. yeah coz that's exactly what he meant. Before you go calling people "typical liberals" and stuff learn something about the issue. I specifically avoided preaching in my original post, what i said seems like common sense. Whether global warming is our fault or not we really should try to conserve energy.
Ginger_Warrior
I want to add a point onto Agunimon979's rather 'interesting' post. Converting to renewable resources of energy would only have a very TINY impact on all of our carbon footprints. I can't remember all that well, but I think according to the Ethical Man (on Newsnight, UK), it would only cut down our footprint by 5%. This isn't a case of switching to renewable energy and that's it, problem solved. This may sounds controversial, but car drivers will ultimately have to realise that, although it's not against the law to drive a car, you don't really have a right to, and inevitably you WILL have to turn to public transport. If not sooner, later. It's gone beyond the point where people can turn around to scientists who will know far more than oradinary people ver will and say "I don't care, I'm not gonna be around long enough to face up to my actions; and I have a right to drive, so try and stop me!". In fact, all of us really should feel guilty for using a computer to post here in the first place. This is the kind of attitude people have to get into, and you can fight it off for as long as you like, you will have to adopt it eventually. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
Agunimon979
So what do you want us to do? Stop driving cars? Stop heating our houses in the wintertime? Stop making energy to let us live? Stop boiling coffee? Turn off our lights so our houses are pitch black at dark? Humans before nature. Think of that. You want us to stop using our things we need to live? I myself do not have an opinion on Global Warming, since it's still a fairly undecided issue in the scietific community, though I'm slightly more inclined towards the "it's more nature than us" side. Nonetheless, we still should do what we can to help the environment and future generations, so arguing otherwise is pretty pointless. Well, I look on the bright side. When the oil runs out, all the Muslim countries with the crazy uncivilized people running around get to be where they belong, instead of in golden castles and ivory towers. I mean, oil is the only thing they got goin' for them. They don't even have tree's to log! Just sand! ..Eh, maybe they'll have a huge glass empire next. Sand is great like that. Obviously not, since by posting on the internet, you must access the computer, thus using electricity. Hypocrisy is a bad thing my friend. The whole thing about global warming is, i honestly have cast doubt to the issue. It seems political in nature, and fits such a bill perfectly. Its the terrorism of the liberal world. It seems to me as a tool of fear mongering for votes, but i could be wrong. This is indeed something that we shouldn't to take chances. If the charts aren't fictional, and the politicians tactics of fear are indeed founded, then we are in danger. But now what? Why do people feel that bickering solves the worlds problems, especially, as the quote above shows, the said people aren't involved with the solution? Shut your electricity off, stop having anything to do with cars, and generally leave civilizations comforts, then you have a right to rant. You know you won't. You can critizise other people and their contributions in one hand, but when it comes to cutting you life style dramaticlly(sorry, turning off a light and carpooling still puts you in the problem section, im talking total primative living), you probably flunk. My true issue on this is, our naive society simply cannot survive in the natural world. You really look at it. Anyone middle class or above is pretty much as good as dead if they left civilization permanently, anyone who is vegan/vegetarian, if they don't change that then they are also dead, the further you are from the equator the more likely you are dead, since we are naturally desert creatures. Those who survive, will recivilise the world and eventually get to the point where industry starts back up. Its the terrorism of the liberal world. It seems to me as a tool of fear mongering for votes, but i could be wrong. I'm guessing you are American? I understand your fear of being manipulated by your politicians. But I think and hope things are the other way around. The amount of pollution and our way of living really are things to be concerned about. In my country it's the NGO's that have been and keep lobbying like mad to get political support and put the issue on the political agenda. Simply because we need politics to be able to change things on a wide scale. It's only now that I understand why so many Americans resist the theory of Global Warming: it has become too tainted with politics. On the one hand, I'm glad that Gore put the problem in the public eye, on the other hand it's quite a pity that it has become linked in a bad way with politics, manipulation and left-wing beliefs, when it should be the general concern of every civilian and politician alike. Inevitable, I guess, but harmful. It works the other way around as well. George Bush has made a capital error by not ratifying the Kyoto-protocol. In addition, it's not about living like total primitives. It's about making a difference by making a general national and international effort to change the way we live in easy ways (double glass in the windows, alternative ways of generating electricity, taking effort to recycle more, try to use green energy...). It's nothing more than a way of thinking and adjusting a bit. It most certainly doesn't mean not using your computer or reading by candlelight. But you can't exactly say I'm wrong right? If we did all these things then we would have a much less selfish lifestyle. Unfortunately, I am human. Thus i am selfish. But i do help. My family and i have put in energy saving lightbulbs, Which don't run until we need them. But then, we usually use lamps. Which take up less energy. We also don't usually fly. Our last aeroplane trip was about 5 years ago. I also evade electricity using rides such as rollercoasters etc. I've never been a big fan of them (especially after final destination 3  ). I do my bit. I should do more. BUt I do my bit. Everyone should. Even if it is just a little bit. Human instincts I'm afraid. Why wasn't I born a meerkat? I'll never know -.-. actually those closer to the equator is dead. Why? because there, the heat would be un bearable when global warming reaches a climax. I think that there should be a way to have comfortable lives without polluting the world. There is a solution. But it has high costs. Unfortuntely. No one would do it because of prices. Even those who can do it, won't. Because they are slefish. My family has not got enought money to help with these solutions. We're not the richest family ever, nor are we the poorest. Solutions include: a) Solar panels. These cost a lot. B) Wind farms. c) electric cars. electricity recieved from solar or wind power. d) Less flights. e) If you can't get electric cars then: i) Take the bus. Which carries more people for a similar amount of pollution. ii) Walk or cycle to your destination. Also good for your health and fitness. If only we did more of those things. Dalcyte
To mr. guy who believes lightning bolts create more CO2 than cars, and belives that the last 3 volcanic eruptions (major) have produced more CO2 in history.... OMG DUDE!! I love making up statistics that aren't backed by any scientific evidence and simply aren't true too!! -.- sorry lol, but that just isn't true...By examining samples of ice in the arctic, you can find CO2 levels and it can be recorded. Anyway, i while back i said that i was oging to accept that although global warming was likely, there is not enough data from the past to support this. I changed my mind there... This is just not true. It does exist, and if you deny it, you're trying to pretty much escape an "inconvienent truth" There IS enough evidence to support it, you just have to put 2 and 2 together. Co2=Temperature increase. Simple as that. We can observe Co2 from ice cores in the antarctic, right? So we can get the CO2 Concentration AND the temperature actually. They seem to actually....be related. Here's Co2 and here's a Co2 temp relationship. hm...i don't have enough time to say all i want to say for now..but that sums it up. warri0r45
From what I know about the data (which isn't all that much, to be honest) I'd say there's definately reason to suggest a correlation between CO2 increase and human activities. I just don't see the point of even risking it and doing nothing with nature as the excuse. At the end of the day which would be better - wild weather, inhospitale heat at some areas of the planet and a multi billion dollar repair bill which won't go away (don't think that's an overestimate, either; it's very conservative) or little to none of those effects, a horde of new techologies in some areas, a horde less in other areas and a potential economical backlash in the order of the multitude of billions (or less if we manage things well).
