should jagex start focusing more on older players?

Featured Replies

as many if not all the population of runescape know of the wilderness ditch (ditch of stupidity) and how runescape seems to be taylored for newer players, what about the guys like me who have been playing for years and are impeaded by these updates. While i know im not a 126 all 99 behemoth of a player i would, with confidence, say that i am more experenced than the majority of the runescape population. In fact i believe that the group of higher levels have been neglected and forgotton. Sure we had the skill cape update with people followin their owners around saying "ohhh! do your emote plz!", and while i dont own one, i still find it annoying.

Not trying to sound rude, but from the looks of your hitpoints level, you seem to be loving the 'lower-level noob player-update' they call Pest control.

I think they should do rs for the more mature not older. I know some pretty twisted 13+, but there are loads of 12- players who act stupidly as well.

basically, all jagex need to do is take off rs from miniclip. that way-

a) no more kids would find out about rs.

B) the kids that do play, get bored due to thier short-attenion spans and quit.

the result? very few immature kids. Unfortunately, this won't eliminate the older immature people.

And Jagex should uncensor these mild, practically harmless stuff. Like "damn". Seriously! Maybe all the censor, except for the really serious bad language, could be removed. It'd be easier to report people for offensive language too as you would no longer have the problem about "what did he say? The f-word or just a simple "damn"?"

You're being watched.

yah i do think that they should i mean thiers alot of people that don't understand the game and stay low level forever and jagex caters to them. and people that have been enjoying the game for awhile feel left out of jagex catering the game to a lower level audience.

off topic:i don't consider you a high level til you have over 20million total expierience....

but thats exaclty opposite of what jagex wants, each person who plays via miniclip or the main site is a potential member which means more money for jagex. so as long as there is money being made jagex will do nothing that would lower the player count, on purpose.

I think Jagex is trying too hard to bring in new memberships that they often forget who has supported the game and kept it running allowing it to come to such a success :anxious:

I believe that Jagex should try to alot it's time between gaining new members and preserving the older members. Sadly, the money lies in a continuos stream of new members. Jagex is, after all, a company, and there are bills to pay. So, sadly we "veterans" are pushed off to the side while jagex focuses on capturing new players.

It is impossible to exaggerate the unimportance of almost everything.

Yes, updates should be geared for the more veteran players. It's bad enough trying to get a 99 in a skill which takes time to level (i.e. Mining OR Smithing OR Firemaking OR Fishing), and when you get there, there's nothing to gain from it; not even a speed boost.

Don't mind the signature either; I plan to get two of those four in 99 that I listed. Not the easy ones, and not the easy way, either.

the immature kids don't become members, they get bored in f2p.

Is not immature kids thats the problem. Is immature-spoiled-rich-kids thats the problem.

In a way, I would like them to forget about the [developmentally delayed]ed people (and quite frankly they are. How can you claim they are not when someone says bring all your items to wild and they do it). Believe it or not, people actually will learn, no one is 13 year old kids forever.

Problem with kids is that they do not truly appreciate RS. They don't see enough of live to recognise that you need to earn your stuff and that mistakes and errors is to be learnt from, not whine at. If you lose all your full rune because you had been tricked, is your fault. Learn what happened and move on, it is a game.

Lets just focus on the better parts of the game. Where is the DT quests? Where are the challenges? In the end, members that stayed the longest is what you need. By concentrating efforts on dumb people who may pay one period of subscription and leave, you are neglecting those true gamers who might be turned away disillusioned by the direction of the game. Good gamers will recognise a good game, and is their profit that is important, not kids.

Templar Guardians

When are trying to lend something, the word to use is borrow. Not barrows, which is a mini-game.

i think they should try to make the game for younger and older children if you want fairness i mean come on. both younger and older children have lives. and nothing to do with age your either mature or inmature. but everyone has a inmature side some more than others. so lets all have fun on rs ans try and get along even if some people act like idiots and are annoying.

Not if mom and dad pay for members. A few of my own "kids" on Runescape (I run a group at my library), have been members for years, and still haven't done all the non member quests.

But...If you can get 20 idiots to pay for play vs 5 gamers paying, corporate survival demands you chase the idiots. "Enhancing shareholder value" is often penny wise and pound foolish.

Offcourse they should, no disscusion possible, but even if they did bring out say a new superweapon that outranks the Whip, there would still be people complaining about how expensive it is, how hard it is to obtain, how the whip is 'useless' now, and so on and so on. The point is, for every happy player there are 3 players that will whine and go spam the Rants board on the official forums.

Rs = Junk

Of course more high lvl stuff. But knowing jagex, they would probably made something useless that no one would use.

Forget it, it's impossible.

2480+ total

Nobody can blame jagex for wanting to tap into the most likely source of revenue in the video game industry, and thats people in there lower teens. Still, they must not be doing well at aiming their product at only younger teenagers, because i see alot of people older then me(me being in my upper teens), and i personally know someone who plays and is in their sixtys, so the game has appeal to older people. But what does jagex have to say about it?

Some of the users believe that our game is played more by younger players, but I'm not entirely convinced that that is true. It might just be the fact that the younger players are more vocal, while more adult players play quieter and keep to themselves.

Also, what is with the anti-miniclip sentiment i always pick up from people? I will proudly say thats how i found the game, through miniclip, and im not an idiot, exception of my rsn.

Some people are like slinkies, normally they are dull, but they always give you a smile

when you push them down a flight of stairs.

It's been happening for a while now that jagex wants to attract younger people.

So many things have changed since I started playing, so many things for young and new players.

Just to name a few

Tutors.

Messages where to get everything back if you die.

Home teleports

The emotes that changed from text to incomprehensible drawings(well at least some are)

Messages of the week.

New player map

All to protect the younger/newer players. Hell I liked it alot more when I first started. NO free weapons or runes now, dropped at lumbridge, no bank near, got lost? No map to help you where you were and no teleport button. I found out what the wilderness was the hard way and spent half a day looking for a tinderbox and fishing net again.

Still i can understand why they do it. They can reap in alot more money if they adress themselves to the younger/newer players.

i'm no veteran, but that's also how i started the game. i would always carry around a newcomer map, ect., instead of whining when i was pked(lost mith at level 20), i moved on to range

nowadays, people have tons of information that new players who would have used it a few years back would have killed for, and it remains unused

I think Jagex is trying too hard to bring in new memberships that they often forget who has supported the game and kept it running allowing it to come to such a success :anxious:

They have a history of that. Classic veterans are the reason why Jagex is worth so much today. Back when Andrew almost went out of business and added membership out of desperation, we paid even though there was almost nothing to pay for. Jagex couldn't afford to advertise, Runescape grew because of word of mouth from the few people that played alone.

Yet as soon as they got enough money to launch rs2, they killed off classic. They killed off the game which made them the company they are, and took everything we did to make them rich, and threw it in our face.

Jagex will continue to make updates to attract new players. Since the release of rs2, Jagex is trying to rake in more money, they are making a good game business wise, rather than making a good game player wise.

Normally I wouldn't care about this, as that is what any company does. It's just that Jagex never used to be like this, they used to get into the game themselves, be a part of the community. Now they just want money.

have you seen the community these days...?

i've seen a jagex mod in public, and the response made w2 falador look calm

there are just too many people nowadays

IMO the current mindset of Jagex is to secure more membership payments and disregard the already-paying members. They assumed that by the current trend they are going, subscription for members has increased by alot with older players quitting less, and they are right to a large extent. In the end Jagex achieves more profit. Pretty logical analysis on the current direction they are heading towards. Money > good game to them like previous posters have said.

Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.
