I remember the original guide.

I worked out a lot for myself, but there were some things I couldn't have done if it weren't for him ::'

When I started, there was no tut. island or guides. You were just dumped in Lumbridge, and that was it. I didn't leave Lumbridge untill I was level 10, not feeling safe outside Lumbridge (there were lvl 14 farmers there! now they are level 7).

I just learned everything myself. My friend got me killed at the scorpion pit in Al Kharid, and I got "scammed" of 3 bronze bars, that someone would turn into weapons for me. That's when I learned not to trust anyone with my items. I never begged for stuff, I wanted to earn everything myself and found it dishonorable to ask people for money or whatever.

Oh well, that was all six years ago... with me being just as old as the average Runescaper now.

I started before the Guide or the Tutorial Island. I remember choosing a class when I started, I think I choose Miner first. Then I started over as an Adventurer because they started with a tinderbox and the Miner did not. It was several days later I found out you could buy a tinderbox at the general store.

I've never talked to him, I also started RS way before they put him in the game. I did get a couple starting items though depending on what I class I chose, like adventurer/ranger/wizard etc. (forgot which one i chose)...

Learning the game was a laugh though, I forget how long it took me to catch on but I did some pretty noobish things (adding an npc to my friends list and being mad I couldn't talk to him there because I didn't see the little options in cyan in the top left corner)

I'm sure we can all agree though that the time when we all first began can be looked on as part of the good ol' days. That sense of adventure from just walking around and seeing it all for the first time felt great. Also I remember a friend who had started a few weeks before me giving me some bronze stuff and me being very happy with it. I miss being new to the game :(

Waaay back years ago when I started, there WEREN'T any guides, but I still turned out fine... :-w It's not the advice that makes the person, it's the person that makes the person. And personally, the guides aren't even needed. Unless you assume that the majority of new RS players are complete morons who won't pay attention on Tut Island, so you need to add a bunch of new npcs to tell them not to beg all over again, and to give them new stuff after they forget for the fifteth time that when they click on the cow, it hurts them... But we don't need to make assumptions, do we? Just look at the player population. 75% of all RSers are going to beg, lie, steal, scam, RC pk, and generally act like idiots, and we can't do much to stop them. 15% of RSers are generally good people, and they'll help new players, give advice, and make friends with others among that 15%. 10% of RSers are pretty much undecided, they fall on the line. About 7% of those will probably be influenced by the guides to become decent player, the remaining 3% will become like the majority, mainly influenced by the community around them. So you have: 78% generally bad, 22% generally good. Just my rough estimates, but in my opinion, most RSers(Mainly the ones that get in under the age limit... :| )are ruined as people before they start, weither because they are hidden behind their internet aliases, or simply because they are immature, rude people. The guides help a little, but many player will blindly charge past them, determined to get their stuff back from that goblin, or to ask that guy in the awesome red armor for his stuff, or to get that other guy to give their armor cool gold lines...

Just my opinions, like them or not.

There is no meaning or truth in life but that which we create for ourselves.

I started before he first "came out" (just before RS2 Beta became available to f2p (this is when I first started, not when he "came out"(just in case this confused anyone(which I hope it didn't :P (I like parentheses \' ))))) and had a friend (that I knew in real life) teach me the basics.

I did spend about 10-15 minutes talking to theLumbridge Guide when he first came out though :P

The best advice I got from him is probably "Do not try to beg, ever!" And I think he's more useful than the tutors, even though he doesn't give you free stuff.

He gives out free advice. :D
