Errdoth
I get really annoyed with discrimination based on age. No matter how much of a presence you have made, the first "oh yeah, I'm only 12 years old" thing that comes out of your mouth and you are done. No one will listen to you, and it kind of sucks. Not so much here, on tip.it, but on a lot of other forums I patron, my name turns to mud and sloshes down the hillside once people find out my age. I don't think that people hould be discriminated/stereotyped based on age. Even when I call to order a pizza, they always ask me, "Is this a serious order?", I kind of can't wait to be a bit older. Coandca5
I agree, as I am also twelve, it's sickening as they discriminate us as prank pullers/liars, and we are rarely taken seriously..
Nadril
Most kids that age are utter idiots. I mean, look at the majority of posters here within that age limit. There are few people far in between that age that I can stand to have a good conversation with.
IGoddessI
Just because you're 12 doesn't mean you can't be a mature 12. I wouldn't take it to heart some people older than you might be a little intimidated that you're more mature and intelligent than they are. Keep it up champ. Just remember a lot of people make generalisations because that's how they were when they were your age. If people mock you, I would merely see it as a compliment 8-) "You must be immature at 12, because I was immature at 12". People see their own strengths and insecurities in others my friend. The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours. Somnambulism
If a 12 year old posts as though they know everything about the world then obviously people will not take them seriously. That's not saying you do because I've not seen many of your posts - however it is pretty common. Lionheart_0
You cant fight it. Trust me, when i was 12, i tried fighting it as well. It's not gonna happen. Each year people say "Oh look at those 12 year old idiots, blah blah blah.". In reality, its just a part of growing up. Older people say "Oh, im older now, i definitely know more, and since i was pushed around when i was younger i can do the same to others.". It's a loop. One gets older, gets more of a leet personality, shuns the little kids, kids try to fight it, cant, become what they hated. Trust me. Edit: It's also kinda a fad. Basically the internet adult age (I'm meaning so kids can start signing up to forums and others stuff) is 13, therefore we just assume anything under that is a little baby. Just a fad... Viktorkrum77
You cant fight it. Yes you can, LIE. :|proof viktor.... I lied that I'm 28 on Yahoo Answers, and the same on several other forums. I am truly 16, but on there no one's noticed, and they take me more seriously. I've also lied a plethora of times about my location, where I was born, etc. Just look at my location now, I don't live there, but only people who knew I didn't would even notice. On some forums I have a completely different life, with a complex job description, and experience, and everything. I event tricked people into believing I was a professional controlled demolitionist. It's easy, anyone can do it... Me doing staff.

Anyway, age discrimination sucks. It gets better as you get older but even now, me being 15, I still get treated as though I know nothing sometimes. Oh well. Lionheart_0
No, i meant about fighting it. All your doing by creating these alter egos is hiding from the problem. You have to come full out and be the real you in order to actually fight it. Im only 1 year older then you (Is that right?) and i can fully fit into any group of adults. I think once your 15 you can fit in as long as your nice. Sig by IkuraiYour Guide to Posting! Behave or I will send my Moose mounted Beaver launchers at you! Chocobodude0
I'm 14, and yeah, it's kinda annoying. But it doesn't bother me much, those who discriminate usually aren't quite intelligent anyways.

Echofish
It's a bummer. I don't want to be stererotyped as the '12-yr old that can't spell, can't make a serious post etc..' To me, it makes me feel better if people actually though I was older than my real age. (14) Ultra Unholy,Hearted Machine...
Korskin
Age discrimination is a reality because 12-year-olds are immature. From my own experience I'd say that's pretty accurate. You may think you're as mature as you'll ever get, but most likely you're not. The average 12-year-old doesn't have much life experience. Therefore I wouldn't value their opinions as much as an older, wiser person's. A different perspective can be a good thing, but more often than not it's a somewhat ignorant perspective due to lack of knowledge and experience. 1_man_army
The problem with younger posters on a forum like this is that they often make misinformed and illogical arguments particularly in political/religious topics (you don't need to look far in OT to find evidence of this). Some young posters also often tend to just recite whatever opinion their parents/teacher/peers have taught them over the years without any real insight or examination of the topic themselves. Don't get me wrong, older posters are also suseptible to making misinformed and illogical arguments but it's far more prevalent amongst youngsters. gamblingfool
Hey, I definitely make fun of 12 year olds. The ones that are acting "immaturely." Personally I wouldn't call the way they act immature, they're acting their age. I'm friends with a handful of younger kids because they are really good skaters and I enjoy skating with them. But every age is discriminated against. I'd say just get used to it because you're going to live with it your entire life. Just by different people. Bubsa
The only thing that bugs me about them is how devoted to an opinion of theirs they are, when they haven't even begun to experience life. warri0r45
Almost a fact of life, dude. Unfortunate for the less immature, of course. I for one believe that everyone should be given a chance to prove themselves as mature (well, in a forum situation at least.)

You can get a pretty good idea about a person's age and location by the way he talks on the internet. It's very obvious that you aren't from Europe and it's pretty obvious that you're not over 18 yet. But you are right, lying can work to an extent on a forum. Errdoth
Here comes my retaliation: Age discrimination is a reality because 12-year-olds are immature. God I hate stereotyping. From my own experience I'd say that's pretty accurate. You saved me the trouble of a response, IGoddessI. a lot of people make generalisations because that's how they were when they were your age You may think you're as mature as you'll ever get, but most likely you're not. Where was that implied? I think none of that, in fact, I'm looking forward to growing into maturity. The average 12-year-old doesn't have much life experience. Well, duh. 12 years isn't exactly a long time... Therefore I wouldn't value their opinions as much as an older, wiser person's. Nor would I, but that doesn't mean theirs should be disregarded. Does it? Retaliation enough? Last.fm Signature Overlays
