In thirty days players won't get the experience from the game they need. An mmorpg is supposed to last for a longer time than that. If they discovered everything they needed to know about rs in 30 days, I doubt they would really play.

Many can't play for very long. Lets say 1 person can only play for 1 hour a day on rs. He goes on rs 5 times a week- monday to friday.

Lets say month began on the monday. It had only 30 days in it.

22 hours of gameplay is all he'll get. If you see all of the mmorpg in that amount of time, it's not a good game. So he won't play it again.

free to play should last. It is the advertising aspect of runescape. Without it, many less members would join. Those who quit won't be replaced. Causing an eventual downfall of runescape. You want that to happen? NO? Good.

Children would just make another account afterwards. So it doesn't really do much for rs at all.

Simply no. Basically market in f2p will be affected. F2p are a market for some goods only members can acquire yet tradeable in f2p (you know TT, rune) and f2p obtainable goods where most members can't be bothered to (like your rune ess which is necessary for low lvl rc).

The history of limitless timeplay for f2p has come a long way and changing it now simply only means problems- Yes, lots and lots of problems that will surface.

Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.

It will only ruin the P2P economy. By the way, it's $5 in the U.S.A. In Canada it's 8-10 dollars.

My F2P Moneymaking Guide!

Always gargle before a takeoff. Wakka Wakka!

Absolutely NO.

This would ruin the P2P economy also. This would make smithing a useless skill. No rune buyers = zero profit for smithers. Except if they sell to store which is much less of a profit.

What about treasure trail items? They will drop severely due to most of the market shutting down.

Rs started out free and will always be free, if jagex decided to make it a trial id cancel my membership on all my acc's and go play wow or some other lame p2p only game.

Awful idea.

Horrible idea,

First of all, not much can happen in 30 days, it would be impossible to stay around as a pure f2per

Second of all, the supply for many raw material goods such as yews are primarily f2p

Third and most importantly, there are allready so many restrictions! They get, like 1% of the game, they will endlessly meet barriers because there are so few places they can go. Let them at least have the liberty of exploring that 1% to their heart's content (which, usually, doesn't last long)

What would be interesting is a free membership trial (for a very short period of time, like 10 days or maybe even just a week), that would be available during ONLY a specific time. That would seriously persuade a lot of people to get membership since a lot of people will try "just for the hell of it" and get addicted". Only downside I can see for that is that members will suffer under the mass invasion and that's why it's important that this generous offer be available only during a set amount of time as opposed to everyone being given a "free 10 day membership trial" with each account to use whenever they please.

(Which I don't get since they can buy a computer and pay for internet <.< .)

It's not so much of a cost issue, more of a trust issue. It took me months before my parents were willing to pay for an online game, remember this is seen as a "waste of time" by some parents in this society (not all parents, and my compliments to the parents that do not) and so membership is seen as "bigger waste of time". It's going to take quite a few promises/good grades/effort to get parents to buy membership for an online game let alone get past the I-don't-want-to-trust-a-company-with-my-credit-card-number policy that many families have.

That was my problem, and I'm pretty certain I'm not alone, seeing as we live in an age where parents are too old to understand video games and therefore some of them don't bother trying to see value in them.

Some people can't get membership because their parents don't approve of the game, and that's the way it is.

Finally the secrets of goal achieving are revealed! (give my guide a read :^_^: )

Players often quit the game straight away or after perhaps 1 week. If they knew they could only play for 30 days without shelling out $5 i'm sure many less people would end up being members so less money for JaGex.

Anyway, you can't even explore 5% of this game within 30days

Simply no.

F2P is what makes runescape such a different game from the other ones out there. I know that I can't play as a member all year round, but enjoy meeting up with friends in F2P to have a nice time under the will of Jagex.

Jaskkes.png

The only limitations I feel that would even work ( besides the mass amount of items and places to go in Members ) would be a level cap. RuneScape should always be a free to play game, if there was to be 1 more limitation I think a level cap would be suited best, maybe 100? But it's too late for a level cap.

And btw I'm being completely bias, I have members so to be really honest with you I don't understand what someone in f2p has to really go through nor do I care.

A shortage of members would develope. Say you have to cancel subscription one month because of you need to save funds for, oh, say mother's day presents.

You come back and, now, it will be there for you to continue playing. With the trial, however, it will be deleted. You stare at the screen, scowl, and figure you were better off without it anyway, after you cried or anything else you do when you lose a favorite toy.

This problem would be especially big with the 13-ish year olds, who dont often control their fund flow.

Two men were walking through the forest. When they got out, they saw a war. One said cool, and ran forward, the other turned back. Later, both envied the other's decision. Who was right?

Its generally the most greedy of members that call it the demo. As for having a time limit for F2P, I vote NO. If Jagex lost money from having F2P, I might see it differently, but as they don't I say it is best the way it is.

This has been suggested in these forums. It got flamed badly and I believe locked... Very few people liked it.

I think people are doing a good job already without my contributions. All I could say is that technically, F2P is not a demo. You say that because it is a demo, it should be time trialled. So you seem to imply that a prerequisite for something being a demo is the presence of a time trial. Because F2P is commonly called a demo (a term never used or implied in any way by JAGeX), it must be changed so it suits the name "demo". Twisted logic, hmm? Rather, since F2P does not have a time trial, and does contain a hefty amount of content (PK!!), would it not be more logical to assume it isn't a demo, instead of twisting it so it becomes one?

Besides, there is one thing that sort of proves JAGeX does not consider F2P a demo. That is the presence of F2P moderators: those that had never been members when they were selected. If F2P becomes time trialled, what will happen to F2P moderators?

F2p is the game, p2p is the expansion, how can f2p be the demo when there never was p2p in the begining..

p2p was added long after rs was up and running as a full game.

Jagex has sold out enough without its players encouraging this kind of idiocy.

"Hello fellow Runescape players!

We decided that to get more great members of Runescape, we would need to have a demo version with a limit of 30-days. Not to worry too much as the members version has far more exciting things to do. To make sure no one is bypassing this new trial version for Free-to-Play, we decided to track your IP so certain players will not immediatly ruin the game for everyone else."

August 14, 2007:

"Hello!

We apologize but our new trial version is losing a lot of members. In fact, due to all of the players leaving this great game; we decided to shut down Runescape. We are all deeply sorry for this but we have no plan of re-gaining any former members back. We will shut down officially on September 11th, 2007."

I just wanted to debate

So you mean that you started this topic only for the sake of debating? Clever. Would've worked better if you started a topic that actually has two more or less equal sides, instead of this one, where nearly everyone is piled against you.

And no, I don't think there is any flaming here. No one has insulted him personally or anything, I think.

There is no personal attacks or flaming towards the author. I don't think much counterarguments can be done to the points made by most posters which seem logical in proving that the topic subject is not a good idea to be implemented
