Day 5: A Toast to Seven Great Companies

Why don't I like Sony? Their unsavoury advertising practices. For example, announcing a delay in the PS3 a few weeks after Christmas. Then announcing another delay a few months later. It's obvious they knew how far behind schedule they were to begin with but waited until people hadn't bought rival consoles to announce how far off schedule they were. Not to mention how stupid it was to price it at $800.

I actually agree with you there, those are sneaky business tactics. But these are not the faults of the engineers that work for them, they are the faults of the marketing department. As with other companies, they often have a negative overtone, but I find it interesting to look at what such and so company has actually done to impact the global way of life, and no one can deny Sony has done more than almost any other company. The lithium battery alone had made the world of consumer electronics the way it is today, without it laptop batteries would only last 1/2 as long and most cordless electronics would still be using AAs

That was really interesting.

It's only the second one Iv'e read, the other being the introductury one.

The one however that I didn't agree with was Intel. The fact that they waited until a competitor was stealing their market share shows that they care not a jot for customer satisfaction.

Also being English, I will be biased and say that AirBus is better than Boeing :P but like you said they are pretty much neck and neck. But the fact that you said that you chose Boeing because they have been operating longer could be turned on you because it shows that AirBus has grown alot faster :P .

But still, really good thanks :)

It is a governmental department, I mentioned so in the post. I still mentioned it though because it deserves some recognition and this seemed like good thread to do so in.

Also, thanks malo2 and everyone else for the compliments, they make this all worthwhile ::'

Google was the first company to come to my mind after reading the title, but after reading the post it doesn't compare to those other companies. In a few years, maybe, but not yet.

I liked reading about Boeing. That is impressive. Although I have got to say that I loved riding on an Airbus on my trip to Germany.

Try finding a car manufacturer that makes car that good. If they were, it would be like the state of New York only having one or two cars break down per decade.

I disagree on that one, if a car was as meticulously cared for as a plane it would also never break down. A plane is gone over my qualified engineers at probably every international stop, compared to that, how often do you put oil and water in your car? :P

Great topics man, keep up the great work, looking forward to the next four. :)

I enjoyed reading the Canon article :)

(Too bad we only have under 6 active photographers at Tip.it :( )

We do? Whatever. I much prefer Nikon, though. I could show you a picture I took my self- with a Nikon d40- that will show you just how awesome Nikon is.

You forgot Nokia. I am posting from a Nokia e61 as usual. Nokia completely dominates the cell phone market not because it is well known, but because it:

-Creates reliable, hard-to-break phones

-That are for every kind of person, from police to buisness people to 9-year-olds

-And have prices that can not be competed with.

\/ No Apple? Big deal.
