What really freaks you out?

I'm not talking about silly little things that are mildly scary. I'm talking about sweaty palms, heart at 300 beats a minute, totally freaked out scary. And on a related note, when have you been the most terrified?

What really scares me is falling. Not heights, as I'm comfortable on the balcony of my friend's apartment twelve stories up. But falling, or the idea of falling, more than six feet freaking me out to the point I shut down.

The time I've been most frightened, however, was the month after I got my snake. That night I'd gone to bed and couldn't fall asleep. And then I heard this noise. It sounded like someone walking around in the hall, wearing jeans. And it always sounded like it was right outside my door. It stopped a few hours later. Now, the cage it's in has a decoration - a styrofoam back wall, make to look like rocks. When my snake rubs up against it... It squeaks, slightly. Terrifying in the pitch black!

Well, I rarely get sweaty palms out of fear. Although if I do, there are things that will freak me out more.

But sweaty palms...I guess my experience yesterday is my answer. Any roller coaster or amusement park ride. At least ones that move you up and down.

I suppose I'm also like you and afraid of falling. Basically heights and open spaces together. Stick me on the 89th floor of the Taipei 101 (Enclosed) and I'll be fine. Stick me on the second floor of a shopping mall, next to the glass railing thingy, I'll freak out.

As for terrifying experiences, didn't we just have a thread about it?

My most terrifying experience was a dream - do you believe that?

Ok, so here goes my dream...

(By the way, the night when I had the dream was coincidently 6-6-6.)

So, it was pitch black and I was around my neighborhood. Suddenly, lots of people start walking around - I mean LOTS (at what appears to be 3:00 in the morning?). They all have red eyes. But when I see them a second time, their eyes are normal. Then I'm with my friends and they don't have red eyes. But then some guy strangles me! I woke up and called my parents in.

I fell asleep and had a continuation of the same dream! I walked into my back yard and all my friends disappear. Then my parents appear and my mom dies. My dad turns into a devil and strangles me.

Public speaking, hands down. Even to a small amount of people (5 or 10) it still terrifies me. I can feel all their eyes on me, and I start to get really red, my hands sweat, and then I get really self conscious, so it gets even worse. Not a good situation for me to be in...

I think that is most peoples' fear who say they are afraid of heights. It is just easier to say you are afraid of heights than to explain it. Went up into the Sears tower, 100th floor or something and looked hundreds of feet down, no problem. Get on top of my roof 10 feet up and look over the edge and I almost start hyperventilating. No chance of falling through a 1inch thick glass window hundreds of feet up, but a slip and I could fall the 10 feet off the roof very easily.

Deep water. If I'm swimming, I swear to God I'd better have a boat under me or something...I hate having my feet dangle in deep water, I don't know what the hell can come up and grab me.

Even in video games...if my character or whatever is in water, I get all scared and freaked out. It's weird.

I really wouldn't call it an era. It was more of a definitive time period during which dinstinctive characteristics were expressed in similar ways.

Tranvestite Pedophiles.

Seriously though, what really freaks me out are the noises I think I hear when I'm alone in my house. Really gets my heart beating, and I start reaching for my trusty basball bat.

I'm really good at public speaking and crap like that. Anyway for me it's being on heights where you can look straight down like buildings, I've been on almost every rollercoaster at six flags and I'm perfectly fine with those but that's not the case. I don't have a fear of flying either...

Or suffocating to death by drowning or other things.

I can speak in front of a class, or a group of maybe even 50-70, but once the audience breaks 100 I'm screwed >_<.

So public speaking, kind of. Roller coasters, especially the hills, scare the hell out of me though. I'll take a rollar coaster spiraling downwards at 300 mph over a straight drop on a coaster any day. I like my stomach where it belongs, not up my throat.

Though surprisingly, I can take falls on log flumes :-k . I just can't stand the roller coaster falls.

What, is it one of those "scare-the-hell-out-of-you-screaming-monstrous-face" flashes? Those are all over the internet.

Sad thing is, once you've seen enough of them, even if you don't see the surprise coming it isn't all that scary. It's just the same thing over and over :| .

Oh yeah, I forgot about performing. Whether it' public speaking or recitals, I start sweating. A few examples...

-Piano recital. I do perfectly well at my lesson a few days beforehand. Then at the recital, I screw up big time. Why? My hands are all sweaty and my fingers are slipping.

-Oral presentation. I stutter a lot more than usual. Even if I practice my presentation 20 times before, I'll still end up forgetting some stuff.

Now, the exception.

-Concerts. I'm fine at school band concerts.

So I suppose I mean independent performing.

Im simaler. I seem to be developing a phobia of most bugs larger than a misqito. When ever I walk into a green house I become anxious, and I start looking around for any bugs, especily wasps and bees.

I find this weird because when I was younger 4-9 years old, i though bumble bees were 'cute' and I really enjoyed looking at them and watching them work. Now I wont mow the lawn if theres bees near any of the flower (damn dandylions). If im alone and encounter a wasp, i'll imediatly head for indoors, or walk/run the other way. If im with people, my ego kicks in and I try to act as if I don't care, and will not have the urge to run or anything Unless whoever im with is obviously terifyed I seem to get cofidence from them. But it's really anoying, and it's starting to take away any enjoyment of the summer because I don't want to be out doors. But ya, I become more afraid of bees each year, even though I know they won't sting me.

Tornados/most inclement weather besides thunderstorms. Ever since I was little, tornadoes, hurricanes, waterspouts... what have you, have frightened the living crap out of me. When I was younger, almost every night I could barely sleep because of worrying about them. Then I decided that was no way to live, and decided to ignore most of my bad feelings about them. They still frighten me. Even though I don't really live in tornado country (Ohio), we almost got hit by one before: about in November two years ago or so, there were like three tornadoes the Cincinatti-ish area, and my family and I all went to the basement. Possibly the most frightened I had ever been in my life. Either that or when I was going on the King's Island "Drop Zone" for the first time and not knowing when it would drop :ohnoes:

I remember, when I was a boy, I visited New York City, and there was this large skyscraper, and it was a Toys R Us. And it was like a square mall, and in the center... was a 7 story tall ferris wheel! Omg! I was so scared I almost pissed my pants, just LOOKING at it. Good thing I didn't ride it =D> I'm still afraid of it today.

I'm a pretty good public speaker, but when I get up there, I sweat. I'm not nervous conciously, but I sweat and I breath hard, making me talk funny. I won a writing contest a while back that would've had me speaking in from of 500+ people. Was I relieved when I found out that I would be on a class trip, and one of my classmates would be reading my piece for me.
