Being John Runescapavich

Hi.

Many of you guys don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t know me on a personal level; my biggest claim to fame (if any) was being the author of the funny examines thread, which seems to have disappeared once again. I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢m just your average Runescape player, and, like your average Runescape player, I quit about 2 years ago, came back for a month, then quit again.

I currently attend year 11 in a private school in Western Australia, and Runescape was taking up too much of my time and I WAS failing my exams. This was the main reason of my leave, aside from trivial reasons such as the constant fear of getting banned for my name containing something an insignificant minority might consider slightly offensive (not deliberate i swear!). I decided to only play on the summer and midterm holidays, if that.

Now, I am aware quite a few people at my school play Runescape, while others despise it to the point that they will alienate anyone who comes out and says they play it. In a way, playing Runescape is like being... you know... THAT way... at my school; one in ten people are in the closet, and don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t dare tell anyone they play, some people are open about it, but we all know each other really, and converge in a little secret society when everyone̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s back is turned. There̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s this one guy I used to know who would bully me relentlessly at school, but then I discovered he played Runescape. From then on we were best buds in game, we did loads of stuff together, but at school he would act the same way towards me, angry, mean, etc, as if nothing ever happened, like he was a differant person altogether in the game, but I knew he didn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t mean anything, so it was all good :P

So, back to the part about me quitting. I have been obsessed with Runescape for a very long time to a dangerous extent, and not that I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ve quit, It̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s having some really weird effects on me. Sort of like an ongoing withdrawal symptom: I first noticed it in that faithful religion class. I was sitting in front of two guys doing an assignment on a painting, of course I didn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t know that. Suddenly, I heard one of them go ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬Åman, I really like Runescape̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ

You did the right thing by quiting, I did for a while (like 9 months..) Just have another break and then in that time find other things to do, personally for me; I'm 18, live in England, just finished my a-levels, waiting to go of to uni in spetember. I have a job (had for 2 years now while studying), that and a combo of seeing friends leaves a tiny amount of time left for rs. Try it, I still play and enjoy my time, but just only do about 10 hours a week tops.

Seriously my advise is if your that worried about rs taking over your life just walk away, close the internet window and call your mates, go for a game of football or w/e; Remember its just a game, DO NOT let it effect your grades, as who in 5/6 years time gives a damn if your combat 126?

I can pretty much guarantee that I'm addicted as well and that I would exhibit the behaviors you listed. My only hope is that by the time I get into year 11 (I'm going into year 10 this fall) that I'll be slightly "bored" by runescape so I can actualy focus on my studies.

Looking for someone to teach me how to Armadyl farm - pm me

RS is a drug and what you suffer of are typical symptoms for junkie on a rehabilitation process (hearing voices, seeing lumby chef in a cafe across the road) its a matter of few weeks till this this symptoms will gradually fade out...

If it won't work i guess the only treatment for you is the one Alex had in "Clockwork orange" :D

Problem with Runescape is that everything takes so much time. Once u get up in level u have to spend hours to make another level. You have to balance work and play. Play is always more than work so work gets kicked aside. The key is to get ur work done so u can make time for the fun stuff. It is hard getting the discipline to get ur school work and family time and play Runescape in between.

Best thing to do is limit Runescape to set times/days and dont deviate from the plan. That way u wont be affecting ur schoolwork and family/social life.

I stopped reading at the point you thought someone said runescape instead of landscape

The best idea, and the idea that i use is that i play runescape when i have nothing better to do, i've never broken off an engagement to play rs and i never will. It is impossible for me not to have a life and play runescape because the time in which i'd otherwise be doing nothing interesting i play runescape. If everyone did this we'd see no one "no lifing" because they'd just play rs instead of say watching tv.

Oh and to do with homework make sure you do all your work before playing runescape, use it as a "reward" after a few hours studying. I've never thought about runescape at school because im not addicted, i've never been and i dont have an addictive personality, i suppose im quite lucky. I think being addicted to runescape isn't based on how much you play, but how much you think about how much you play in a "i can't play more than this".

Well, I've been making good grades in spite of my 1350 total-character.

I support breaks now and then, and maybe a change of scenery but if you like the game, it would be a bit stupid if your character fell to pieces just because you weren't there, no?

I quit for a month and started saying "Rofl" and "noob" a lot in real life o.O guess I wasnt getting it out of my system enough on the net lol

and yes it is very addicitive, my friend was quitting off and on for a month and is now full time playing again. I said "dude I thought you quit" his response "Haha you cant quit runescape!". I played many MMORPG's before ever hearing about runescape and once I started I didnt stop! I'd say that It's so addictive because of the time it takes and oddly enough the community. Yeah I know its a coiled pile of steaming noobs but theres those few people that you can have an interesting conversation with while you skill that helps it be so addictive. (got muted... started playing WoW lol)

  • 2 weeks later...

School has always come easy to me, so playing RS isnt a problem. :D

But I can say I am slightly addicted. If I dont log on at least in a week I start to feel sick, and I don't know why... :(

Maybe I need counseling? :-k

If you force yourself to 'quit,' you'll still have an unquenched desire to play. The only way to really lose interest in this game is not by quitting. You just have to get so bored of it that when you log on you have absolutely no interest, and then you just log off. That's really the only way you can 'quit.' Cold turkeying it just makes you want to play it after a break that much more.

That seems to be happening to me. Ever since I got 85 slayer, I have not had much interest in the game. Whips are far too rare. There is not much left for me to do... In the past few days, I found myself logging in, spending an hour or two and then logging off to play CSS.
