July 5, 200719 yr I kind of agree with your thoughts on video games. Crash Bandicoot was legendary. The crap graphics and simple tasks on a Super Nintendo were amazing, especially down to the fact you could by a game with 30 other games on for 10 quid whereas now you buy 1 game for 40 quid+. I agree with your hate for reality TV which doubles my annoyance when it's celebrity reality TV. I don't mind Big Brother being as it is a normal persons show, where cruelty and annoyance can be pushed over board unlike the celebrity scene where "its not in my contract" is the immediate response to anything harsh. I agree with your thoughts on the film industry, although Hostel... c'mon its storyline is pretty shoddy although the paying to kill idea was insanely good. Think the reason is their aren't any blow-your-mind directors making movies anymore, maybe Tarentino's the best around at the moment. Oh ye and seeing as you seem to like horror films, watch The Descent, i thought it was great : . Agree and disagree with your music thoughts. Indie is crapper then crap these days, mainly because everyone loves it so more bands emerge which shovels more of that music genre into the charts. Un commercialised bands are the way forward to my ears. Drist, My Chemical Romance (now a bit commercialised), Red Jump Suit Apparatus, Fuel, The Prodigy are all amazing. If you're looking for a real lyrical rapper, Tupac Shakur is your man. Over 100 songs all written by him, his unrealesed songs which he recorded himself are far better than the ones realesed after he died. ~Bbalking
July 5, 200719 yr Theres not much more I can add, but most of what your complaining about is sameness. And the reason sameness stays around, is because people like whats familiar and new and different stuff scares them thats why you havent heard a great trombone solo on a rock record in more then half a decade.
July 5, 200719 yr Football games are all about slogans, paying to use players names in the game, soundtracks and realism. What happened to games like Sensible Soccer with the overhead view, where players names were altered slightly but just enough you could still tell who they were meant to be?PES mate, PES!. But yeh i see what your getting at, I wa playing the first command & Conquer today which is almost 12 years old but still brill. With music, i reckon all of the modern rock/ indie stuff just all sounds the same. Razorlight are the blandest band that I have ever listened to. There are obviously exeptions like the Arctic Monkeys which are quite different but the majority is poor. Telly is knacked like you say, Saturday nights in...poor. I mainly just watch sport on TV now other than the odd show. However I think there are still some pretty decent movies coming out. I don't think that we can judge how good or bad they are until we look back if ya get me.
July 5, 200719 yr To be fair to post-2000 music, you have bands like Blind Guardian, DragonForce and Rammstein to make up for the overall shoddiness of pop, rap and R&B. Varrock Library: Shattered Sky | Silent Thunder | The Emperor's FinestAstri @ MythWeavers
July 5, 200719 yr Are the days of real entertainment over? The answer is clearly no, as here on tip it we have our very own singing/entertainer/comedian Bubsa. How entertained do people want to be? sheesh :P ----- Video Games. - Well yes I agree I haven̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t played video games since the old super Nintendo Donkey Kong games - Held a Guinness book of records title for DK2 - youngest person to complete whole game in quickest time with max percent (obviously it upgrades each year so your name is only in there for a whole of about a year tops). Perhaps it's because I'm getting older and find it hard now to understand what all the buttons do on the new consoles? So is that the video game or me? Television. The only thing I watch on TV is Neighbours and family guy - I hear you all on television, it's boring. Or once again, is it just me? Because, now don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t hold the patience to sit and watch a new program from beginning to ending? Movies. I don't know about you guys and girls but the last DECENT movie I actually wanted to cry or cheer for was Lord of the Rings now THAT was a while ago. Movies are getting boring lately or am I expecting too much? Is it me? I expect a movie to make me cry, move me emotionally or make me forget I live in the real world for a second. I remember a time Milo and Otis, a movie about a talking cat and dog was the best movie, ever. Are the movies crap or do I live in a new age where I expect everything to woo me? Music. I can't complain about the music side of things, I'm one of the rare people who listen to meditation rain forest hippy crap or doof doof techno and trance as I'm a motivated person and I like the go go go it has in it. Is that the music or is that me? ----- Or could it be that Video games, television, movies and music have been around for SO LONG that we are all running out of NEW and EXCITING ideas for the people? How many times have you played a video game and compared it to another you've played? Over the years how common is that becoming? How many times have you watched a television show with the same story line as another and you feel like telling them to get their own ideas? I've lost count how many times I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ve watched a movie and walked out because they thought that if they followed the same story lines as other movies and threw in a bit of a twist that it would be an award winner! It has the opposite effect. We can only sing so many number 1 hits about love, how many different songs are produced every day, how many songs has their been about love and how many different damn ways can you twist words about love?? ---- Is it them? Is it me? Or has it been around for so long that all the ideas have been taken and the industry will slowly die as there will no longer be anymore original ideas? There's something for you to think about. The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.
July 5, 200719 yr TV isn't ruined though, there are some good channels like History, Discovery, National Geographic, Science, Kids Shows, blah blah blah
July 5, 200719 yr I would disagree with much of your post, below are some of what consider to be quite original movies made within the last ten years from the top 250 off IMDb: The Lord of the Rings trilogy Memento (2000) Fight Club (1999) The Matrix (1999) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) Hotel Rwanda (2004) Sin City (2005) Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003) Hot Fuzz (2007) The Sixth Sense (1999) The Green Mile (1999) V for Vendetta (2005) Gladiator (2000) Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004) The Big Lebowski (1998) Snatch. (2000) Shrek (2001) Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) Shaun of the Dead (2004) as well as some that aren't on the IMDb top 250: o brother where art thou (2000) City of God (2002) Lucky Number Slevin (2006) eXistenZ (1999) (Probably more but that's all I can think of at the moment) I don't really care for a lot of television now either, although i don't like much of the older stuff either. I listen to a lot of older music, but there are still some talented musicians around. I don't play video games much, so I can't really say much on that.
July 5, 200719 yr Those are some great titles you have found and I loved most of them, however; To be honest in 10 years, that isn't much of a movie choice is it? That's like going to the movies once a week and only finding 1 decent, original movie within the year. I don't know about you but from what they get paid, I expect to be wooed much more than once a year. That brings me back to these questions: Is it them? Is it me? Or is there a lack rapidly increasing in original ideas? Generation Y are obsessed with saving the world, you'd think they could tamper with the idea a little hmm? I'm hanging on the end of my seat here to view a movie with a REAL story about every day people who struggled and then found their feet. Am I crazy to find that watching a sick person from a 3rd world country making a difference in the world more entertaining than Frodo destroying a ring with sweet [wagon] engraving on the inside? The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.

I don't know about you but from what they get paid, I expect to be wooed much more than once a year. Well I think really good movies (which all of that list are in my opinion) only come around every so often. I mean I've enjoyed watching many others, though their impact hasn't lasted on me so much. I have to say I don't think they are really any less frequent than before ten years ago. Then again, our opinions of what movies were good may differ.
July 5, 200719 yr I understand that, that is your opinion and I agree with you. A good idea only comes around every once in a while, you are absolutely correct and I agree with what you said whole-heartedly. What I'm saying here, however, is within all the movies you have watched in-between, how many times have you said to yourself "I've seen this part of the story line in another movie". That is what I mean, when I say lack of originality because I'm not sure about you, but I find myself as a movie buff doing that often and it makes me feel disappointed. The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.
July 6, 200719 yr I understand that, that is your opinion and I agree with you. Yes, I notice that sometimes, although it is logical that it becomes incresingly harder to be completely original. On the other hand, a lot of these movies as a whole do normally go down a different road to the other movie. So it's only aspects of story lines that tend to be repeated (I'm talking about the relatively enjoyable ones here, there are a lot of movies that are completely unoriginal).
July 6, 200719 yr Yeah, that article is pretty right (except for vdeo games, but there's really no point into gettin' into that). We just gotta hope mainstream America will just wake up, and smell the talent under the garbage.
July 6, 200719 yr Games - Don't agree at all. But then again, I'm only 15, so I didn't really get that much of a chance to experience the older games. Television - I completely agree with this. Granted, there are some good shows out there, but the majority, in particular comedy shows, are just lame and unoriginal. BRING BACK THE MUPPETS! Movies - I don't really agree with this. I like the newer movies much more than I like older ones. However, I only really watch comedy and action, so I'm not so much looking for a ground-breaking movie as I am a cheap laugh from gay jokes or a slight adrenaline rush from a nice explosion. Music - I agree that the state of today's music is kind of pathetic, but I think the music 10 years ago was just as pathetic. I still like it, but the compositional skills and originality displayed just don't match up to those of the composers 100+ years ago. Cool.
July 8, 200719 yr I am sorry but you realy dont have any idea what your talking about. T.V In the last decade TV has eveloved dramitically and its now considered a lot more then plain family entertainment. some of the last TV series are even considered by many as masterpieces. I am talking about: the sopranos,Six feet under, Oz,The Shield, Prison Break(first season), 24 (early seasons),Lost and others... You couldn't get this type of quility, in terms of acting, screenplay, sophistication and intensity few decades back. I am sorry but you realy dont have any idea what your talking about.
July 8, 200719 yr I think I only agree on the video game part, and t.v.. There's tons of good movies out today, and the same goes for music. You just have to know where to look. Let me ask you a question. How many great movies from the 80s can you name? I bet there's more great movies you've seen the past five years than you've seen from the 60s, 70s and 80s combined. Same goes for music. I've got to admit that it's less good (in my recent top 100 there were only three movies from the period 2000 till now), but it's really not that bad as you want us to believe, Rob. :) Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
