All of those who say that there were no macroers or noobs in it, you're dead wrong. RSC was seriously full of it.

What made it a far nicer experience then RS2 ever will be? I don't know. Even though it looked absolutely hideous, it had an amazing atmosphere. You'd learn to love those ugly little sprites eventually.

The game was extremely hard in the beginning. You had to click on your pickaxe, click on a rock, and hope you got an ore. No reason people macroed it to death.

When I achieved something there, it really felt very nice because you knew you worked your [wagon] off for it. RS2 is so ridiculously easy that I don't feel it's a challenge at all.

The three best gaming years of my life were spent playing the original Runescape.

Runescape classic is old, and people love old things. Its the same with music, sports, movies etc. People who played rsc generally try to elevate themselves above everyone else as if proclaiming that they played it makes them more knowledgable about everything.

I started playing runescape over 2 years ago, but I never got to experience classic. All over the forums, people proclaim how rs2 is too easy, and not nearly as fun as the "good ol' days..." in classic. Was classic really more fun than runescape is today? Or is it just nostalgia....

And what made it so much harder than today?

There were no banknotes... theres no such thing as 'x' (like in cook x, smith x, punch noobs in the face x...) You had to trade bowstrings 28 at a time -.-

I just loved it when I played on classic, Im not going back though... I like RS2 so much better

EXCEPT FOR THOSE DAMN NOOBS!!!

The only bad thing I remember in classic was Paul and Mod Bennett playing around with Lumbridge castle's black hole with me being the test subject when I found it out. You could get in a black hole by going up the ladder in a certain angle with puts you inside the wall, which you could then cross over to the black side of the area.

The staff was very close to the community going as far as playing with them! I'm sure the pkers of the time remembered Paul or Andrew cheating by going on the nature rune island shooting everyone with their bow, or when Varrock's bank storage was used as a jail for the Gower's entertainment... Paul was also the first person to start the drop party fad, but I haven't been around that far back to remember it.

I admit though, the transition from certs to notes was a huge upgrade.

"300 programmers make their futile but glorious last stand against 1000000 angry players in The battle of Misthalin. They fight for honor, glory and new content sacrificing themselves so that their game may live on. This is Madness! This Is JAGEEEX!"

When I was at my friend's house once (the guy who introduced me to rs), he offer to let me play on his acc in rsc, and I accepted, and I have to tell you... It sucked. Wow, was it so bad, I really don't get why people like it so much.

since you didn't start out on RSC you wouldn't understand it..

Seriously i really do miss duel anywhere.. Jagex should tear that stupid duel arena down and put duel anywhere back in the game...

I like the classic version for laughs but it was hard you either had to find stuf out on your own or ask someone to tell you some thing

And the cavemen wondered how to make fire...

Im in the .00001% that finds Firemaking fun. If you find it fun add this to your siggy.

There were autominers back in RSC, but no where near as many as now... And there were so few that Jagex was able to ban most of them. Okay, let me rephrase my statement:

Autoers were so few in numbers that they did not have much of an impact on the game.

What was so good about Classic?

Everything.

The two things I did not like about RSC was that you couldn't trade items in bulk, and that you "waddled" everywhere you went. Those who played RSC know what I mean.

You Had To Beat Horde of people in clicking Contest to acces to bank.=)

Lmao boy that was a pain in the butt. Looking back now, it's rather comical :)

if you didn't sleep you got no exp....

You could preserve your low level pker/dueler/steel pker/whatever for as long as you wanted. Just get max Fatigue on a non-combat skill and BAM! You'd be level proof forever!

I remember fishing trout and salmon, getting 5k for them and thinking how rich I was lol !

I thought I was the best merchant ever when I sold Trout and Salmon to people at lvl 1 varrock wildy/edgeville bank. I remember getting 1k for Trout 2k for salmon, EACH! Yea.. I still find it amazing people went into the wilderness/lurked around the wilderness with that kind of moeny

Lol Lumby was the dueling hotspot..

There was Draynor of course for bigger stakes. And the BIGGEST stakes (In the upwards of many mills which was alot back then) took place along the Draynor/Port Sariam Wall. The duelers were on the Port side, then spectators were on the Draynor side watching.

Duel anywhere was soooooo useful when training melee lol..

It was usefull for teleporting when you didn't have runes/too lazy to walk to a bank/couldn't get to a bank/couldn't tele

Less people, no macros.

There were marcos, just much more obsolete. They trained mostly Combat and Theiving. Then things got real bad and they mass mined ore. People mainly autoed to get stats up. A lot of them weren't into profits/real world trading. If they were in it for the items alot of it was transfer to mains

The feeling. Can't be duplicated, doesn't even come back if I log on to RSC..

It's something no one can ever take from me or something that can be duplicated. It was an amazing feeling.

There were not nearly as many scammers, and macros did not exist.

Have we played the same game? First big massbans happened in 2002 and it wasn't the only massban for autoing :P Macroing was a big problem at the last times of RSC before we got RS2 and definately got into worse after that.

Why do you think they took away F2P? The autoing problem was BAD. As you can see now... it's progressed

and what's the deal with disks of returning? Thats another think I was wondering about.

They were to escape from the black hole. A.K.A. where you were sent if suspected of cheating and flagged for a ban. You bought the disk (50gp or so?) and teleported out back to safety. They soon found it was a bad means of dealing with trouble and took it out.

It's like msDos games. You had to experience them growing up to enjoy them. If you've grown up playing games such as Halo and BF2 then you wouldn't enjoy the old 2D/basic sounds/maze like games that I played in my childhood

I've been playing Runescape for 6 years now. I grew up playing RSC so that's what I've come to know Runescape as. I'd still enjoy playing it if I ever had the chance. As for some of you that grew up playing Rs2, you wouldn't understand what it was like to play RSC. You'd take a look at the graphics and say "Pssh that's not worth my time". You had to be there to enjoy it.

This was based on the rough majority

Indeed, most of skills in RSC were harder to level.

The thing what mtade RSC great was that you were basically on your own. You will figure out the way to fight, to mine (also finding the mines), to range where to buy certain things, where to start quests and such. Also, you were ask to choose what would primary trade would be (mine, fighter, adventurer.. i chose to be a miner just in case you're wondering). RSC was unique in many cases, whoever played rsc was a part of a runescape period in which Jagex dealt with major bugs (p hat dupe to a name a few.) and had a lot of ideas which involved trial and error (fatigue ftl!)

Some skills, like mining required a lot of clicking. I recall earning gaining my first 30 mining levels by first clicking the pickaxe and then clicking the rock.

Yet, while some argue that RSC was better or RS2 is better, the main goal or objective for everyone who plays this game is the same, to have fun and be the best you can, in whatever scenario.

All I can say is that RS is a great game which many enjoy to play, let's hope it stays the way for a long time.

Ah, let me answer that for thee.

1) RSC WAS harder than RS2 is today, you had to CLICK a LOT to do things, and leveling was nowhere NEAR as easy as it is now.

2) The community was great.

3) There wasn't idiots going "Noob this" and "Noob that" to everyone lower leveled than them.

4) There was no perfect explanations to what the months updates were going to be, you had to figure them out, or not even know about it.

5) Amazingly enough, I like(d) the 2D graphics better than the new 3D ones, even though they're getting a lot nicer.

6) Did I mention quests were harder? Which made them more of a challenge and fun to do than now.

7) The days are nostalgiac, nowadays you can just click on something and it auto does it for you, back in the day you had to click each piece of food, click the rock a bajillion times just to try to get the coal before the other people. Etc. This refers to #1

8) There was no KB to tell you about everything, you had to rely either on a dependable fansite (like tip.it) or another player. Also, there was hardly any scammers, not saying there wasn't, but there was fewer (I got scammed out of my Pass back in the day haha!)

I think that's a few for you to run your thoughts over, even though I think a few have already been said.

For me RSC is easier than RS2...its much faster to learn things its RSC, easier to powertrain certain skills, easier to get flax...so many things are easier in RSC...im quite sure i would get 1k overall skills in RSC faster than in RS2 if starting from zero.

I tried RS2 for few weeks before but i got bored because there was too much things to do so i couldnt decide anymore what i would do so i left it.

1. Kids thing saying "oh the good old days" is the current cool fad.

2. Money is worth less in RS2, with a space in between the words.

3. No skirt to legs.

Nothing else that should not be true for RS2. People say that there were less idiots but it would only be a matter until they would discover every cranny and nook and learn every trick, and the noobs would have flooded in. Just a bit later than now. RSC must have been a frustrating experience IMO.
