Should we report people who use Autotypers?

Featured Replies

I've read a copy of the Mod Guidelines, written by a J Mod. It says in it, that those who are typing normal things at a considerable pace aren't to be reported. Eg. Player1:Selling X -Player-

On the other hand, they said it is reportable, and in certain cases, mutable when a user spams gibberish. Eg. Player2:@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

I use an auto typer, just so I can be efficient. I don't spam it either. My message is sent every 10 seconds, the normal time it would take me to type that message out. I just save my wrists. Just my $0.02 really. Do what you will.

Well, I think it should only be classified as auto-typing if it happens every 2 seconds or so. Every 10 seconds is great as it doesn't kill your hands with carpral tunnel.

I never report them myself because I didn't know that they would actually get punished. I will now as it gets annoying to get your sales drowned out with a large message every half of a second.

You must not use other software to gain an unfair advantage in the game. This includes automation tools, macros, bots, or auto-typers. You may not circumvent any of our mechanisms designed to automatically log out inactive users.

I've seen many people who are obviously using autotypers in World 2, but I only report them if they set the speed to be an unfair advantage. If they set it at an appropriate time interval for the length of the text, more power to them. It saves their hands from hurting. Humans have been using tools for millenia, and thats what sets us above the animals. As long as you can't do it any BETTER than people not using tools, then I believe it's totally within the boundaries of the rules.

saving their hands from hurting using 3rd party software = against the rules and an unfair advantage... i think you just pwn3d yourself

Read again: Saving their hands from hurting using 3rd party software is a REAL LIFE benefit. Not an in-game benefit. Thus, by your own logic, it's unfair but it's not in full violation because it's not an in-game benefit.

Who exactly "pwn3d" themselves in this situation?

I think Jagex should ban those who uses autotypers of any sort

Go World 1, and behind Varrock West Bank (usually rare items are sold there), and I usually see many people using autotypers, generating effects like

Wave:green:sell full rune (g) 1.2Mil - playername

continously so that the message stays on screen almost forever.

My brother is a merchant. He gets furious because people don't reply to multiple trade offers, obviously, the other party is using a auto-type and afking for a while (not paying attention)

This also makes legal player inferior because their typing speed is lower than those who use auto-types, and gets less trade-offers as the ultimate result

So, Jagex should ban auto-type users, as stated in Rule #7. However, whether is rule is reinforced and executed property is still highly doubted by me

Currently taking a break from Runescape

Pfft, any third party is autoing, so it doesn't matter.

Auto-typers are rule breakers and should be reported. However, be careful first, I normally only report clear auto-typers, aka those who have the same *mistake* in their sentence multiple times:

Bob: sellnig all ddses 50k each

Bob: sellnig all ddses 50k each

Bob: sellnig all ddses 50k each

Whereas if someone says:

Fred: selling all ddses 50k each

Fred: selling all ddses 50k each

Fred: selling all ddses 50k each

I probably won't report them. Why? Because I can't be sure that they're auto typing, and since it's not a "major" offence I'd rather not waste JAGeX's time with something I'm not sure about.

The thing is, I can type at a maximum of 108 wpm, what does that mean? Well, that means I can actually type faster than the auto typers that send human like input (Aka key by key rather than a whole message), and I can easily say the same thing every time..

..But sadly, thanks to people jumping to conclusions, I have to type every message differently (which *does* get to be a pain in the wrist, a bad one) just so people don't think I'm auto typing.. E.g:

Matt: Buying a dds 50k

Matt: Buying dds for 50k

Matt: Buying dds 50k!!!!

Matt: Buying a dds for teh 50k

they do gain from it as they get noticed more when it comes to selling in busy worlds e.g. world 1,2

Here's how everything works:

-Normal macro cuts wood. (Around level 3)

-Normal macro gives wood to "middle-man-macro." (Maybe level 3 or 4, but also around levels 20-30. Basiclly a "noob account")

-Middle-man-macro gives money to a regular, everyday RuneScape player (OR illegal sells it).

Now, the middle-man macro usually hangs out in world 2 and sells, let's say, a large amount amount of yew logs that he gets from the level 3 macro. To sell those logs, he/she uses an autotyper, in conjunction with an auto-trader.

So you see, both types of macros are related. REPORT THEM ALL!

Yes, Autotypers should be reported. It spams the chatbox and also gives the user an unfair advantage over selling things. In places like World 2, the more often you can type and show your message, the more likely a buyer looking to buy your product (or sell) will se it, which could snatch the opportunity away from someone else.

I don't really care if people can type fast or not, I, personally, can type fast. That's why we have keyboarding lessons in early age school, to teach you type right and quick.

Although, this could all be solved if people played the game right! Too bad there's always the people who don't give a crud about "right".

I must admit, i do use an auto typer sometimes.

I would never dream of using a macro to improve my stats, i like to know that i have accomplished them by myself.

I don't see me using an auto-typer to be much of an advantage as i do put an time interval between all of my messages. (i at least wait for the text to disappear.)

P2P offers more and better ways of making money than f2p. That's one of the cons you just have to play with if you don't feel like having 1 bigmac meal less per month.

its a benefit in rs too, what if i said "I auto at yews so i dont have to click on the yew trees wich save my fingers from hurting" would you say "oh thats understandable go ahead and auto away my level 3 friend!"? and wether or not you would its still 3rd party software that interferes with the game and is against the rules so bizam
