Should we report people who use Autotypers?

Featured Replies

Autotyping is against the rules i believe but i don't bother reporting them anymore. There's not enough time in the world, and if Jagex don't care why should i?

Macroers, by definition, are people who use scripts to generate input into the game, to replace the actions of people.

Autotypers are against the rules, Just because some people use them in a controlled manner to merchant goods doesn't mean that everyone who has access to one will. I've seen people who type a full sentence several times per second and flood the chat box in world 2.

I think that Jagex should introduce a built in macro system, where there is a five second delay between sending macros.

Imo there is a difference between auto-typers and spammers. As long as the auto-typer doesn't spam his message, I'm ok with it.

I don't use an auto-typer though. I only use one to log in. On my G15 keyboard I have 2 macro's... one for my log in name, and one for my password. Saves me 5 seconds when logging in

Jagex said although auto typers do not give technically give you any advantages in game they are still not in the spirit of gaming. However they can not be reported just like calling someone a noob or idiot.

If you are a person that believes in reporting people then yes by all means you should report auto typers as it is macroing as well.

YES, granted, its honestly not as bad of a problem as having another lvl 3 account mining you rune / pure ess / picking you flax and making bowstrings all day or whatever...

HOWEVER, Cheating is still cheating no matter to what extent.

If Auto typing is as bad as stabbing a person where cheating is like shooting a person, then either way you look at it someone has broken the law and should face the consequences of their actions.

So if someone types faster than the norm, he risks getting muted?

And if an autotyper is designed to type it incorrectly once in 3 times, you don't report, and thus he gets away?

Rule 7 states that you can not use 3rd party software to gain an UNFAIR advantage in game. Not breaking your fingers or requiring hours of typing practice is something you feel in real life, rather than actually in the game. If you're actually typing something faster than humanly possible, then you may as well report for spamming.

You probably shouldn't report Autotyping under rule 7. It falls into the gray area between "unfair" and "fair". If one is using it moderately, inputting the message once every 20 seconds or so, it's not really that unfair considering most people can type it faster naturally. The only "unfair" part is not actually a part of the game.

If they ARE using it unfairly, there is always a chance it is a fast typist, where you may be reporting him falsely. However, typing at that speed, he's still considered spamming and thus you could report him under rule 1 safely without any risk of a false report.

So if you see an autotyper, or what you suspect to be one, I really don't think it's worth a report. Save your reports for the macroers that ARE gaining an unfair advantage, or report them in a way that there can be no mistake made.

Im a fast typer, so in order to prevent others from reporting me i do the following when im buying or selling, something that an autotyper cannot do unless its manually changed, then for them whats the point lol. Simply type: cyan: or red: or white: and i change the colour each sentance, or i change the text slightly. I will never be able to compete with the autotypers, and i will never drop to their level, you reap what you sow in this life.

cheating is cheating.

This thread is pretty much like asking if you should wipe your [wagon] after taking a dump.

Of course, that is why jagex made the rules. It falls under macroing.

And you had to make a topic just so people could spam by saying "yes" multiple times.

YES REPORT THEM! IT IS MACROING

Get it?

This thread is pretty much like asking if you should wipe your [wagon] after taking a dump.

Hahahaha!!! I literally started cracking up when I read that

Just be careful not to report someone who is merely a fast typer (like me).

Yeah now I have to worry about getting reported for my great typing skills.

this is seriously a problem.

when i go to world 2 i always have private on hide. and i always find myself confronted by a player mod telling me hes going to mute me? when it started i would usually respond with a "why? or "what for?" but they would always walk off, so now i just give them the good old "do it then" ... weird they always walk away after that still. mods have a auto typer guideline maybe?

never the less, im not muted and im not an auto-typer. just a fast typer determined to sell his stuff and not i dont enjoy being a smart [wagon] to mods thats just my "im not auto typing guidline"

on the topic.

yes we should.

I think this should move to Debate Club.

Ontopic: Yes. why should I break my hands typing when some lazy people can use autotalkers. Not fair IMO. <.<

Yes, report them. It is against the rules

I engineered this thread with precise variables that I know would cause lul-worthy flames.

Always report them no matter what.

Quit RuneScape :)

Well, I think it should only be classified as auto-typing if it happens every 2 seconds or so. Every 10 seconds is great as it doesn't kill your hands with carpral tunnel.

I never report them myself because I didn't know that they would actually get punished. I will now as it gets annoying to get your sales drowned out with a large message every half of a second.

You must not use other software to gain an unfair advantage in the game. This includes automation tools, macros, bots, or auto-typers. You may not circumvent any of our mechanisms designed to automatically log out inactive users.

I've seen many people who are obviously using autotypers in World 2, but I only report them if they set the speed to be an unfair advantage. If they set it at an appropriate time interval for the length of the text, more power to them. It saves their hands from hurting. Humans have been using tools for millenia, and thats what sets us above the animals. As long as you can't do it any BETTER than people not using tools, then I believe it's totally within the boundaries of the rules.

saving their hands from hurting using 3rd party software = against the rules and an unfair advantage... i think you just pwn3d yourself

almost every merchant in world 1 and 2 use auto typer.

No, I think you just missed the point. It's fair that MY hands should hurt because YOU weren't smart enough to use an autotyper fairly? I think not.

but my point is autotypers arent FAIR period so you cant use one fairly no matter what sort of cheater logic you pull

Go in any of the big selling worlds and your screen will become covered in the repeated messages of the autotypers, report them, do what you can to, as they are breaking rules, and too lazy to type. Heres a nice story for you as well, someone who used to be a friend, i deleated them, told me a couple of months ago that they downloaded one of those autotyper programs, i was like...not impressed and told them so, there was a silence, then they said they had been hacked, all their gp gone, barrows items etc etc, after running anti-virus etc he found a trojan-keylogger that was installed in the said downloaded autotyper. If you have got this far....then im sure you can suss what the moral of the story is...Cheats never prosper.

Exactly. Good speech!

People who use autotypers should be reported, but only if you're absolutely sure they're using an autotyper. Some people have the ability to type very fast and accuractly, which can lead to them being reported for macroing.
