July 29, 200718 yr Experienced the worst national security failure in its history Let's see... maybe that's because this was the first time anyone ever tried to hijack planes and crash them into buildings in the US? Reversed the greatest period of prosperity in its history Let's try not to forget the dot com bubble burst and 9/11. Is it Bush's fault that because of 9/11, businesses that were located in the World Trade Center were cripped, due to losing their offices and employees? Is it Bush's fault that people did not want to fly, causing the airlines to suffer? Is it Bush's fault that tourism-related industries (amusment parks, hotels, resorts) would be negatively affected because tourists are unwilling to fly? Is it Bush's fault that it costs money to pay for workers to move the debree from two 100+ story buildings? Depleted the largest fiscal surplus in its history Recovery from 9/11, paying for a war, restoration in areas affected by Hurricane Katrina. Created the largest deficit in its history Because we can't just have disasters happen and not clean them up, can we? Lost the most jobs during a single presidential term in its history My guess would be that that statement is incorrect. Don't you think that more people would've lost jobs during the Great Depression? Herbert Hoover was a President, was he not? Invaded and occupied a nation that did not harm or threaten the US for the first time in history. You phail. What about when we invaded and overthrew LiliÃÆàÃâûuokalani, the queen of Hawaii, in 1893? What about when we caused a revolution in Panama because we knew that the new government would allow us to build a canal? What about the Persian Gulf War? Denied the public access to more information than any other time in its history. No, and your statement is an opinion. Appointed more convicted felons to government posts than any other president in history Proof? Held more people captive without Constitutional rights than at any other time in its history Proof? Proposed a Constitutional change that would take away civil rights for the first time in its history Proof? Insulted and alienated more of it̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s allies than ever before in its history Opinion? Lost the respect of more people around the world than ever before in its history You're a [developmentally delayed]? Replaced more science with religious ideology than at any at other time in its history You can't replace science, it's still there. Divided the nation and the people of the world like never before in its history No, that would have been during slavery, where the people of the US were split between whether to abolish slavery or not. Fostered a global climate based on fear and hatred not seen on this planet since the Nazi regime No. Not even close.
July 29, 200718 yr "Proposed a Constitutional change that would take away civil rights for the first time in its history " just wondering, what did he try to take away? He already took away habeus corpus. He basically abolished the fifth amendment, being able to outlaw anti-war protests. I could go on listing things, but his perspective on the constitution speaks volumes. "It's just a goddamned piece of paper." Honestly it's not even debatable whether or not Bush was a failure or not. Bartoron, nice effort trying to refute those points. I'd love to refute yours, but it would be a waste of time. The evidence is plain and out there to see. If the catastrophic failure he's already been hasn't been enough reason, what would it take from him to lose your faith in him? The 25% of people in this nation who support Bush still are lost. They're the same 25% of the nation who have blind enough faith to believe, as a poll showed, that this year, not in their lifetime, but this year, will be the year Jesus returns. If that many people can believe that, I'm not surprised at all Bush still has support out there.
July 29, 200718 yr Its funny how you say all the bad stuff that Bush did, but you never said anything good he did. I'm sorry, but if I'm just stating the fact that this is the man 53~54 Million people voted for...He better do something good! and please, if you truly believe how he's a good president, give me a list that opposes that..and come on, how can someone that did that much damage is liked? For example: If Someone has a great personality, and is known to be a good person, but then shoots his neighbor in the head...because he was drunk..would you remember him for being the "great personality" or the fact that he shot a freaking bullet on a person's head. (sorry, the only thing I can come up in these few seconds) One big reason is he guided us through 9/11 , that was a very tough time for all Americans, and Bush did an EXCELLENT job of doing that. What also pisses me off is when people, who are old enough to vote, choose NOT to vote, then they start complaining that "this president is doing a horrible job", well you should honestly keep your mouth shut, since if you choose not to vote, you have to right to complain. I have this rather lengthy email I received If you're not a Jay Leno fan read what he wrote anyway. My respect and esteem for him has really increased. "The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came across some poll data I found rather hard to believe. It must be true given the source, right? The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with the direction the country is headed and 69 percent of the country is unhappy with the performance of the president. In essence 2/3s of the citizenry just ain't happy and want a change. So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started thinking, ''What we are so unhappy about?'' Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter? Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job? Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year? Maybe it is the ability to drive from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to present identification papers as we move through each state? Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter? I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world is just not good enough. Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all and even send a helicopter to take you to the hospital. Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames thus saving you, your family and your belongings. Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes, an officer equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your family against attack or loss. This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs or militias raping and pillaging the residents. Neighborhoods where 90 percent of teenagers own cell phones and computers. How about the complete religious, social and political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world? Maybe that is what has 67 percent of you folks unhappy. Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the world loves the U.S., yet has a great disdain for its citizens. They see us for what we are. The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain about what we don't have , and what we hate about the country instead of thanking the good Lord we live here. I know, I know. What about the president who took us into war and has no plan to get us out? The president who has a measly 31 percent approval rating? Is this the same president who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11? The president that cut taxes to bring an economy out of recession? Could this be the same guy who has been called every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the spoiled ungrateful brats safe from terrorist attacks? The commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there defending you and me? Did you hear how bad the President is on the news or talk show? Did this news affect you so much, make you so unhappy you couldn't take a look around for yourself and see all the good things and be glad? Think about it......are you upset at the President because he actually caused you personal pain OR is it because the "Media" told you he was failing to kiss your sorry ungrateful behind every day. Make no mistake about it. The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have volunteered to serve, and in many cases may have died for your freedom. There is currently no draft in this country. They didn't have to go. They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a ''general'' discharge, an ''other than honorable'' discharge or, worst case scenario, a ''dishonorable'' discharge after a few days in the brig. So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69 percent of Americans? Say what you want but I blame it on the media. If it bleeds it leads and they specialize in bad news. Everybody will watch a car crash with blood and guts. How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the corner? The media knows this and media outlets are for-profit corporations. They offer what sells, and when criticized, try to defend their actions by "justifying" them in one way or another. Just ask why they tried to allow a murderer like O.J. Simpson to write a book about how he didn't kill his wife, but if he did he would have done it this way......Insane! Stop buying the negativism you are fed everyday by the media. Shut off the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times for the bottom of your bird cage. Then start being grateful for all we have as a country. There is exponentially more good than bad. We are among the most blessed peoples on Earth and should thank God several times a day, or at least be thankful and appreciative." Jay Leno Then again some points here have to do with Religious aspects, I'm not saying anything to anyone, I just simply posted something that I thought, some people should read. July 29, 200718 yr Invaded and occupied a nation that did not harm or threaten the US for the first time in history. Ehh this is a touchy claim. McKinley's invasion of the Phillipines skirts the line of invasion (although it was politically executed first and militarily later). Forcible removal of the Cherokees from "Cherokee Nation" in Georgia doesn't exactly fit the bill but it also is an example of unprovoked aggression. The invasion of Panama in 89 by Bush Sr. comes close also, but the evidence is a little sketchy on this issue. Like father, like son, eh? "Defending and promoting democracy..." All that idealism was used to justify this one too. Thankfully we are free of many examples of blatant invasion, and certainly Iraq and Afghanistan stand out as two direct, preemptive invasions, but I don't think they are entirely unprecedented.
July 29, 200718 yr Its funny how you say all the bad stuff that Bush did, but you never said anything good he did. He did something good? My opinion: Bush= :^o Edit: First: A few bumper stickers: "Be nice to America, or we'll bring democracy to YOU'RE Country!" "Well, at least the war on the middle class is going well..." "Can you impeach someone who wasn't elected in the first place?" Also, in response to someone who mentioned the Civil War, no, it was not about slaves, not until Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, and then it was, IN PART about slavery. What the war actually was about was taxes. Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz. The logic of people here at tip.it is just so great. If you disagree with this, you can go ahead and PM me about it, I don't want to get this thread locked. Whoever wrote that e-mail is perhaps the most cool-headed, most amazing people ever. Honestly. Here's an e-mail I've been sent as well. All the people that wake up full of anger, then storm outside with their signs and shirts complaining about the current government are, in essence, spoiled children. Much of the world would kill just for running water...Oh wait, they do, while we often waste the same amount of water in a day that a village in Africa gets in a month. They protest the war after hearing about another hundred troops dead, or that one of a million went insane and killed a civilian. So the other 999,999 are blamed, prejudiced against, and in general hated. The media doesn't show the pictures of soldiers jumping in front of a civilian to save them from an insurgent's bullet, then dying in the street as the family says prayers to their God, thanking Him for sending such a brave man to their aid. We talk bad about our friends when they're not near us, while many soldiers know they might not see their buddies again. We roll our eyes, and try to keep a crying baby quiet, while that guy in the hangar-as well as his buddies-bawl over a recording of his child crying. We're pissed when something runs 5 minutes late, but when a soldier is told he's going to be in Iraq another two months, he quietly thinks about his family and friends back here in the States, and wonders if he'll ever see them again. He sees his best friend's blood spattered along the road, but he just picks him up and keeps going. This really made me think. And I think every bit of it is true. Go ahead and flame me, whatever. I won't really care. I've saved this e-mail, and plan on putting it on a poster, which I'll hang on my wall, to look at every day. I find it inspirational, but others might not, but those faceless soldiers are fighting for their right to not care, and-more importantly- for the people of Iraq's right to not care. And now, I bid you adieu. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

Has ended a massive genocide (Saddam Hussein) And there was one very large, very good thing George Bush Senior did. Somalia. There was very little open warfare during his Presidancy, and he helped organize peace operations with NATO, delivering food to villages as well as defending them from the Habr Gedir militia that often killed to steal said food. I'm sure everything I've said will have a counter argument, which I hope will be actual fact or reason, and not "U say big words. There will always be people who hate our country but if we elect another leader like Bush, maybe and hopefully not Guiliani, this never ending war on terror will just get more and more out of hand. This climate of fear is so unnecessary. We don't need to be constantly told what the chance of a terrorist act each day is with that alert system. It'll be unfortunate if another terrorist attack occurs, obviously, but it's not an issue the country should be pouring so much tax into and this national obsession just needs to end so we can focus on actually advancing this country.
July 30, 200718 yr The 'war on terror' and Iraq as a whole did nothing but increase the likelyhood of terrorist attacks against "the west". Nice work there I must admit. At least Australia is generally at the bottom of the 'countries to hit' list even after being dragged into the Iraq war.

At least Australia is generally at the bottom of the 'countries to hit' list even after being dragged into the Iraq war. The name of the war is Operation Iraqi Freedom for those that didn't know. You are missing the whole picture. Yes, as of now, America might be more likely to get attacked. But after fighting this war, and not letting up for years and years and years, the Iraqi children can grow up under the democracy that we've created for them. They can experience the American way of life (politically), and once they see it, they'll want to be a part of it, as opposed to joinin terrorism. Just random thoughts, I'm currently a bit ""Under the Weather"" from pain pills you might say. July 30, 200718 yr When I talk about "the west" I refer to the coalition forces which took part in offensive action in Iraq to remove Hussien from power. Confining it to just America is stupid. A lot of countries now have targets on their backs because of a war they really never should've been part of, but essentially got bullied/pressured into it because of Bush. Look at the UK - so many failed attempts, and some pretty bad hits themself. Catalyst? Being part of the "coalition of the willing". It's essentially only a matter of time before the rest of the countries which were part of it are hit, and hit hard. And if they (Iraqi's) get the "American way of life" then I really do pity them. Personally I wouldn't be suprised if they wished for a dictatorship again when you take into consideration how screwed up - politically - America has become.

July 31, 200718 yr You know, I don't love Bush but he's nowhere near as bad as you and many other people make him sound. If he were really as bad as you say, we either wouldn't be a stable country anymore or he would've been thrown out of office a long time ago. You see, the media tells people like you and I all the bad things he's done. That's all they tell you. No, see, even if he was the worst president ever we'd still be a stable country because of CHECKS AND BALANCES. Thank God for an inept Congress and a rigid Supreme Court (for the most part, although he's been manipulating both lately...) I understand that the media portrays Bush in a negative light all the time (although I don't recall them railing on Clinton every day, Monica scandal aside), but I have to ask what he's done that's positive in his presidency? You and bartoron have insisted that he's not that bad, but I have to ask, is he that good? No Child Left Behind Failed, PATRIOT Act nearly incited riots about our civil liberties, Abramoff pulled a fast one that has just recently been rectified (more Congress' issue I suppose), Bolton has raised cain at the UN, Social Security plan failed, guest worker plan died -- basically Bush has failed to bring about bipartisan legislation since the Iraq war. That's not the mark of a strong leader, or a good president. (Whatever, you've probably already picked a side) I'll just tell you right now that I'm not exactly sure of what he did that has benefited us. I'm 15 and though I'm old enough to find these things out, I really don't care. My family, however, talks about it and they talk about how they know he's done good. I trust my families' knowledge. Even my Grandma, who cannot stand Bush, admits that he's done a lot of good for this country. I also know that the media tends to point out everything bad because that's what America likes to hear about. I don't like Bush and, if I had the choice back in 2004, I would not have reelected him. Just because I don't like him, doesn't mean I'm going to allow myself to be so susceptible to what the media tells me that I only have one opinion; theirs. I think I'll withdraw myself from this argument as I've said everything I can. I've already stated that I don't care enough to get further involved to try and defend myself.

July 31, 200718 yr The other nation's leaders were bullied by Bush? How do you figure that? I said pressued/bullied moron. Don't imply that I meant just one. Howard, under massive pressure from Bush to get involved - money and trade talk in politics - he went against the majority of Australians and got involved in a war we never should've been part of. If you honestly believe that the Iraqi people were better off in a dictatorship, you really need to learn your facts. That's absolutely pathetic.I never said they were better off under Suddams Dictatorship, I just said they'd be better off like that than getting Democracy then have it slowly stripped away like is happening in America. They might as well starting having no rights, so to speak, than have them then have them removed piece at a time. Reading comprehension actually works - think first before you reply.

Explanation This statement was misleading because it failed to acknowledge the intelligence community's deep division on the issue of whether Iraq was actively pursuing its nuclear program. Bush on Al-Qaeda: "The battle of Iraq is one victory in a war on terror that began on September the 11, 2001 -- and still goes on. That terrible morning, 19 evil men -- the shock troops of a hateful ideology -- gave America and the civilized world a glimpse of their ambitions. They imagined, in the words of one terrorist, that September the 11th would be the 'beginning of the end of America.' By seeking to turn our cities into killing fields, terrorists and their allies believed that they could destroy this nation's resolve, and force our retreat from the world. They have failed."
