Vincent
took this from the runescape forums since it is a public message and not a private communication. so at least we know it will work in f2p. \ [hide=-this is my signature- guides i've written]full list is at the top of <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=775754">viewtopic.php?f=180&t=775754</a><!-- l -->[/hide]
truffoo
As with all updates, some will hate, some will love, some will 'meh'. I am amazed though, that people are judging it without seeing it, but judging on performance in other areas. It's like saying that the next Mac OS will be bad because the iPhone has a touch screen. Maybe it will be bad, or great, or meh, but only in it's own right. I suspect one of the reasons for the 25-Jun-07 poll was to see if they can get away with increasing the game window size. I'd guess that it's currently assuming minimum resolution of 800x600. Increase that to 1024x768 and you'd be able to put friends/clan chat on the side (as an example). There's a lot on the screen already and I think it would be good to be able to bump it up a bit. When did they first mention they were going to work on clan chat? They have no doubt gone through a huge process to come up with something that is effective yet developable, largely based on a lot of functionality found in IRC. I'm hoping that the Development Diary to be released will be the Clan Chat Diary. That would be interesting reading. Bufoman
hey guy's I was thinking you might be interested in whats being said over at Clan Discussions on our Forum: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=684497 just letting you know this is getting alot of feed back. Ill be cross refrenceing these two discussions for easy reading and seeing as this has as much to do with runescape as it does with clans I see no violation of our rules in reguards to multiple topics of the same sort. ltb2006
I think the clan chat will replace the ignore tab (which will probably get moved into the friends tab or something.)
ScubaZteve
They've been talking about coming out with clan support for years. This is probably just the first step of it. I predict clan support to come out ingame and on forums more extensively. Rsn: Scuba10
EugenyG
Sigh, what ever gave you the idea that it was NOT going to be an IN-GAME feature (as in an addition to the current pub/private chats)? Having an outside client (be it custom-written, IRC-implemented, or whatever), from the Jagex point of view, will be stupid, unorganized, taking control over chat censor and other rulebreaking out of their hands, let a WHOLE range of new scams and viruses travel around (hey, download this new version of the "official" RS chat client), an extra piece of software to update separately, new opportunities for hacks and bug abuse, extra layer of confusion for players... I can't end about thinking of reasons why it would be totally dumb. I can bet pretty much anything that the clan support (or the majority of it's implementation) will be fully in-game. We *might* see subsets of RSOF for clans to use (like dynamically created boards for each clan, but then they would remain on the RSOF and be fully moderated like everything else (and even then I find it highly unlikely). We might also see clan highscores or whatnot. But the actual implementation of any clan system, including any in-game chat being done outside the RS client and outside the full and *direct* (from moderation down to source code and transmitted packets ) control of Jagex? Not a snowball's chance in hell, no, forget it, that's too good of a chance... Not a fireball's chance in heaven! Live free or die. First option is exhausted, so guess what remains? Rcty
I invisioned it to look like this: [hide=What I Invisioned it to Look Like][/hide] Don't remember where, but I saw a picture like this somewhere. However, I did make that picture myself. As for what I think about it - I believe it will be a great feature that will make clans stronger through enhanced communication abilities. JaGeX has stated that it is F2P and P2P, so that's good. I just hope Administrators of the channel can have really good control over it. ~Rcty Rcty

Then, the tab to the left of ignore would be clan chat and would have all the channels ect and tabs for making your own channel, joining a channel, ect. slayer369
Censored - I'm positive it will be censored, including websites. As to telling your clan channel ingame, maybe :) We'll have to see. Multiple - Well, they obviously can't distinguish which clan you are in. They might limit it to only one room. Possibly they'll let us make a pass for each room. Logged In - Probably. It'll most likely be an ingame feature, at least that's how I see it. Anything else would really surprise me. Capacity/Size - Jagex should learn from client methods and build a chat where viewing is clearly possible. We'll have to see for the layout; I'm not too hopeful for a good one. Hopefully they can hold many - I see a possible limit as 200, like p2p friend lists. Design - I see it as a tab on friends list/ignore list, just as achievement diary is a tab on the quest page. I wish they would just put in on the log out page, actually :x what a waste of space. RSN: Jettrider
EugenyG
Hopefully they can hold many - I see a possible limit as 200, like p2p friend lists. Any clan with over 200 players on the roll is not a clan; it is a collection of characters with no real ties to each other, no hierarchy, no coordination, and no functioning as a unit. In fact, I'd say that having over 100 people already starts causing these problems. If your "clan" is so huge, you have bigger issues to solve than having a clan chat. Other entities (like forum communities, for example "tip.iters community", loose merchanting associations, questions&answers channels, etc, can sure hold a lot of members. But this means it is not a "clan" but a "channel". There is a huge difference between loosely associated player groups (like all tip.iters) and SPECIFIC clans with clear communication between members, rules that are followed, events that are attended uniformely and on a regular basis, etc. Live free or die. First option is exhausted, so guess what remains?
hatebringer
IRC is already well acknowledged, and can be used as a market, pc world finders, help and advice, talk with friends with out annoying censors for words that are obviously not for 13+ (maybe jagex needs to go watch a few pg13 movies, half the words they block are in there ) I think they are just trying to get people away for RS clients, like adding their own world switcher... this would have been great a few years ago... only update im looking for is that new dungeon, thats it. Irool
I'm not so hardcore into the game that I'm gonna get IRC, and go on message boards on sites other than jagex.com to find a clan and like post in the clan message board all the time and stuff like that. It's just been too cumbersome to join a clan without clan support in game I guess for a lot of you who have clans already this won't be a big update but now anyone in game can get into a clan or start a clan with relative ease which is going to be a huge change to game play (even for lower levels, IMO) if you ask me, this is the most necessary update in a long time. What mmorpg have you heard of without clan support?? Also, I'd just like to add I've always thought it was absolutely [developmentally delayed]ed for them to have clan forums without anything to even do with clans in game. Like you think it's a good enough idea to have forums for but not enough to develop for? stupid.... also, people who don't realize they're still chatting in rs are going to get banned... 100 Combat91 Strength70 Defense82 Attack85 Magic =)
stratotanker
Agreed. But, who's to say that this may also usher in that friend finder thing soon, too? That would be great to have also. The thing, though, is that the chat rooms had better have passwords, else you'll have some idiot jumping in, spamming, and going to another to cause chaos. The Observer
I just think it will be a new friends list. Maybe it will be in the empty "F7" interface.
