CampbellMC
I have been wondering about the new clan chat coming out and what problems may arise from it. My expectations are at the bottom, and my potential problems are listed here: Censored - Previously It was nearly impossible to recruit seeing as saying irc channels, sites or IP adresses is illegal ingame. Will you be able to tell someone to come to your channel, and then have your site/IP posted at the top? Multiple - Can you be in multiple chats at once with friends? Will this be like IRC which we already possess, or just another friends list with a couple more options. Logged In - Will you be required to be on RS at the same time you are in the clan chat? Many people like to do other things for a few minutes and signing into a chat could/would get annoying. Capacity/Size - How many people can these channels hold, and will the screen be adjustable so that you can clearly read what each person is saying? Design - Is this going to be a seperate Client? Will it just be another irc network that I can connect into from mIRC, or will it just be a tag onto the original window. Although this seems to be a great update atm. Don't get your hopes up too much, it sounds like they are making a version of IRC that will most likely be censored for a 5 year old audience, and you will be able to get reported on it. Please list any other Potential Problems that you can think of, or if you prefer, say a good aspect about the release of it.

no_way2go
I think it's just a second "friends" chat. To multiple people... - Back to casual f2p scaping due to limited time (university and girlfriend ) -
Mandudeguy04
I think it will be in a pop up window like the world map and just be a censored version of IRC.
MrBowser
I bet on the highscore page or somewhere, it will list clans, and all sorts of other stuff, but they won't want to have people making outside sites. That's what it takes to be a hero, a little gemof innocence inside of you that makes you wantto believe that there still exists a right and wrong, that decency will somehow triumph in the end.--Lise Hand
RoswellCrash
It's more then likely just going to be another in game chat where the hell are these ideas coming from?? You will have to be logged into RuneScape to use it duh! And you can turn it of much like private chat.. - Twitter | RuneScape FB Group | My PC

If it is a seperate client, such as IRC which would be easier for JaGeX, you would not have to be logged into Runescape to use it. You have obviously never used IRC, or if you have then you are a plain idiot. Don't flame something just because you dont understand it.
pulli23
uhm they could make it so that the server checks if the IRC nick = ingame logged in nick. Also it would be possible to check for the client to make sure it uses the RS client.. (though this can be faked).. My current bets are on an extra "friendlist" though. First they came to fishingand I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing Then they came to the yewsand I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews Then they came for the oresand I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores Then they came for meand there was no one left to speak out for me. Makoto_the_Phoenix
Will it be f2p too? I hope not. :ohnoes: Why the hell not? Chances are it'll be completely different, and we don't know if they will be using IRC or not. All I can say is let's wait and see what we see. :D Linux User/Enthusiast | Full-Stack Software Engineer | Stack Overflow Member | GIMP User...Alright, the Elf City update lured me back to RS over a year ago. kemikalkadet
However good it is i doubt it could ever tempt me away from mirc. it sounds like a great feature for people that dont/cant use irc, but i expect it'll be a very ringfenced version of normal irc. bambino
what's with all the negativism? Let's give jagex some credit here :s. It's as if this update is doomed to fail, what on earth makes you think that? Even if it's some sort of "plain" ingame chat, it's still a good addition which brings RS a small step closer to the other MMORPG's (I'm talking about the higher graphical games, such as WoW, GW,...). And for the censor, I think it works quite fine. The words I use rarely are nor need to be censored anyway. If your language however does often trigger the censor, perhaps you should take a second or 2 to think about who really is that "5 year old" ;) ? I know what I know and what I know might well not be what you want to know but then seeing as only I know what I know and you do not know what I know then you will not know if what I know is what you would like to know

Yeah, censors and reports will be VERY annoying. Then since there's therw on't be no sites to link. Another problem could be the monotoring of the clan chat, where people could voluntarily or involuntarily say things related to breaking ingame rules. Truth be told lots of people have been unfairly judged and sentence to bans from the game and I think this would lead to more. InkofDeath
lol, when the any new program coems out, its crap, right? I can see a dedicated team of j mods who are in charge of this friend list thing. Version 1.0 will be the first one we get, it will probably suck. Wait till jagex releases a whole bunch of updates to the new chat or new vrsions of it, then I'm sure it will be good enough to use, at version 23.9 though. =/
aoe325
It is pretty obvious the2 clan chat will be ingame, theyre not going to use some program from outside the game window to interact in it, they never did. And its not meant to replace w/e you're using, its meant to be a new convinent way to chat ingame, not everyone has Mirc, or the screen resolution to see both Mirc and the game window at the same time. Being able to have real discussions in Runescape without everybody needing to meet at the same place will be one of the greatest updates ever, no matter how basic it could be. even if it was just a multi-friend chat it would serve its purpose, but they promised us something way more useful with integrated clan structures and all. All of the bad things you're saying about it are ridiculous, since nobody knows what it will look like. Just wait and see =) Dont say its [cabbage] without first trying it. Im certain that even if it was exactly as bad as everybody said we still could find plenty of uses for it =) Quest cape obtained at combat level 83, march 07. spikerkid
There going to copy irc in everyway possible so people stop using it. I think it'll be ok to use and eventually with all the rants it'll be fixed to our style. Quit RuneScape :)

Jard_Y_Dooku
Most IRC clients are written in JavaScript. RuneScape is also written in JavaScript. Therefore they could easily mash an IRC thingy into the RuneScape applet... The way they described it... it sounded a LOT like IRC. "Create your own clan chat channel", "Control who can talk" (+v/-v), "Rank members" (that's an IRC feature...). Then again there's no reason they can't make an entirely-their-own thing. From what I've seen and heard, Jagex seems to hate 3rd party things, and love to make everything themselves. Hey, nothing wrong with that... anyways, we have under a week until it comes out, so let's just wait and see. DISCLAIMER: Yes I know it's Java, not JavaScript. Programmer's joke. Never trust anyone. You are always alone, and betrayal is inevitable.Nothing is safe from the jaws of the decompiler.
Bufoman
Hmm if any one wants my Hopes and Wishes for the New Clan Chat here they are: First off that it will be for both Free to play and members. Second that it allows you to PM individuals just like with the reguler PM System... this probaly won't happen as it would be like giveing extra PM Space which would be a rather nice gift in and of itself but too big a carrot for Free To Play. Thirdly that it is indeed part of the In Game chat, how they do this I will not venture to guess but Im thinking a Split Chat above Private perhaps. I hope that as a Free to Player I will be able to make my own Chat Room for my order, however I wouldent be supprised if its going to be a Big Carrot they dangle to get us to Subscribe. just the ability to Mass PM every one or people of diffrent ranks, and to be able to talk and see whats being said and filter chat from diffrent ranks like a Toggle on/ Off option I think would be great. Imagin a new Pile Comand going out to every rank at once, and every one seeing it in their Chatbox. if its reely just a week away Id love to see what it is. but If I cant be the owner of the room as a Free to Player it will greatly dissapoint me, and ill have to find a member of my order that I can trust enough to make it themselves. but knowing jagex and how they want more members they might just make that against the rules. Further more not allowing me and other Free to Play Clan Leaders to do so will creat a great Shift in the ballance of power. Free To play Clans already got no advantages over Member clan's save that they know the territory better. Members got more funds, Easier Levels, and they are less likely to leave a Clan if its members based as it offers for them most every member related thing they could want where as a Free to play based Clan can offer them practicaly nothing save sometimes a great community that they would not want to leave. So In Closeing I hope Jagex keeps us Free To players in Mind and any ballance of power shift that may occure as a result of this update between the two classes of Players.
