  1. The minimal black marks for macroing at its lowest point was 5 (and the punishment USUALLY given in this era--was still a permanent ban). These days, I'm pretty sure you're just always permanently banned. There hasn't ever been a time where people were allowed to macro multiple times and still play RS. (Except maybe outside that stat wipe of 5000 accounts in classic)
  2. This update better go into f2p I'm a very far back longtime player and could never compete with all the new p2p stuff like godswords. I dont even know if people use summoning in pk. Nor do I know much ABOUT summoning. Questing?? I havent done one in years. but for f2p I would be just fine. Id rather have this ruleset in a small area than in the massive p2p world anyway. Hopefully im not disappointed
  3. Math.random() It's a simple line of text that generates a number from 0-1. Randomly. Do me a favor and write out the algorithm for this function. And remember, make sure it's completely random!
  4. for all of you who have been banned after this update, look at this injustice my macroing offense before this update [hide=before update][/hide] and after [hide=after update][/hide] this post did scare me quite a bit...thanks for sparing me again and banning others for much lesser offenses, jagex! also, i love all you people who are saying woot i went from .2 to .1!!!...without considering this update likely unbanned quite a few people who don't belong anywhere near this game, and certainly banned many good players. but no need to look at the big picture  which kind of player am I? ehh, lets stay on topic i wasnt really worried about the conduct of those with 9.7 black marks, now some of them are perm banned a year or more after the offense?? and now they can never get the time back they put into the game since then? well done jagex
  5. More like "without gaining 1exp" I'm not sure but I don't think he plays anymore. You are right, he quit. I'd like to see someone hit someone hit 200M Mining and Agility experience... mining and magic are the definitely worthy of being called insanely tough. magic is buyable and there is still no one to crack 100m yet you have to consider that there have been 99s in each of these skills before slayer even came out (not that slayer would be easy, or is even easier than magic). I think we can all agree that mining would be the worst though.
  6. you were just talking about jagex' amazing detection algorithm of magic now you're relying on humans to examine accounts  You also went from "i know jagex employees-- i know all about this new detection system" to a post that seems like a lot of conjecture and hoping
  7. hahaha. if detecting uneven trades on their end was too unwieldy, what makes you think it's any easier for them to look for conflicting IP addresses for 500k players a day?? and new detection system?? where was this announced again? And when was the last time I heard of an account sharing ban? (it was actually when RSC was just Runescape--I kid you not) Well, there is no point in explaining how easy it is to detect a conflicting IP address seeing as you are obviously computer illiterate for question such a thing but I will tell you right now that it is easy to tell the difference between someone connecting from China and America (for example). And many people have been banned/locked for account sharing, it was just harder for them to track down in the past, but I've known people who's accounts have been locked only hours after they have shared their accounts with friends. you're an absolute joke I'm a computer science major heading into my senior year at a major university in the north east...thanks Idiot, Doing anything for the >1 million logins a day isn't cheap. It's just easy for you to think it's simple because you don't have the brain capacity to imagine anything on a large scale in regards to "computers". I could just have anyone sharing my account login to a proxy in proximity to my home  Or is jagex' magical algorithm going to detect that? Is andrew gower going to get a personal alarm set off in his office that an IP actually 25 miles from my dorm is what logged into my computer? oh wait...he's not (i love how this guy thinks this is all so easy because he can go to whatismyip.com and see what country he is...despite this all involving many database calls and i'm not even sure what EXPENSIVE lookup you're gonna have to do thousands and thousands of times in order to figure out WHERE people are logging in from) Oh and, if my use of the word expensive confuses you in this context--it's because you just got schooled
  8. hahaha. if detecting uneven trades on their end was too unwieldy, what makes you think it's any easier for them to look for conflicting IP addresses for 500k players a day?? and new detection system?? where was this announced again? And when was the last time I heard of an account sharing ban? (it was actually when RSC was just Runescape--I kid you not) Right, because there is no reason for two people to use a paypal account. Two consenting people could share an account easily using a dedicated proxy--it would appear that the connection is always coming from one place  oh, and define foreign...the US is pretty big, after all
  9. So how DO you make a large amount of money now? "Macro combat skills and sell accounts online" - Ex asian gold farmers
  10. Don't forget the behind the scenes 2008... All I'm gonna say is : better not suck...I can be patient and will wait for them to make some good changes, but they better be for the better
  11. Its become EASIER to buy skills. Now, level 99 herblore or construction or smithing etc is just a matter of having the gold and going to the grand exchange and asking for 5 million of whatever raw material you need. it's just become harder to get the money to buy the skills, the skills are more buyable than ever
  12. I'll wait, but barring big changes to the bounty hunter game I'm gone Bounty hunter isn't even well done...I'm pretty upset. At level 100, I'm absolutely no match for any two mindless level 85s who attack me. That isn't to say I can't easily get my own entourage together, I just don't see much of a point. I could snake around and try to surprise people and get kills here and there, but bounty hunter sounded like a way to engage in some 1 on 1 combat...it hardly delivered what is even happening on members servers?? do you zone in, get DDsed by 8 people and die after your 6 second immunity wears off?? I'm not really offended that the wilderness is gone or the game has changed...bounty hunter just stinks...There is no defense against 2-3 random idiots in the bounty arena other than 3 or more of your own counter idiots. Hell my character is at the max level of the medium bracket, I'm SURE any group would love to let me pk with them daily in bounty hunter...it's just so pointless knowing I could easily be replaced by any random level 90 who doesn't know what they're doing and be just as effective in me in this game (hey everyone...click on that level 62...woot) here's how bad this update is : no one is even talking about the horrific lag.
  13. update is a travesty first of all, jagex has been too lazy to create a function to allow you to stop gaining exp that has been requested for ages. I have a level 55 and a 100 about to level up...I basically have no choice but to eventually be thrown to the dogs on both characters. I don't want either character in the next bracket, and yet exp is turned on in this minigame 180 second penalty for rogue killing?? people don't even care, it's so inconsequential...there are those with 100+ rogue kills already, what the heck jagex the high scores are a joke-especialy the rogue high scores, all you need is a level 55 and a level 3, and 24 hours...ill rack up 1000 rogue kills and be on the top of this supposed leaderboard
  14. +1 most of you don't even know how much better f2p pking in RSC was. Being in the wilderness was so much more dangerous. pking is now awful in comparison Even if f2p doesn't get it, it could be just as awful as what they give f2p now. we shall see
  15. pking is 100% the next thing to go you won't be pking in 2008 like you did in 2007, I guarentee it. They're afraid of people covertly transferring gold through the PARTY ROOM...do you think they're gonna leave pking where it's not unusual for a player to drop 2m+ in items? It's as good as gone (not that i want this by any stretch)
  16. Unless you had a pure staker or were a huge merchant, the game is 99.9% the same. almost everyone leaving is doing so from a a moral standpoint and hurting only themselves Besides, jagex' vision isn't to have a game with 3k max stakes...in a perfect world players could be trusted to not abuse a dueling system that has no cap. It was only done to prevent real world trading
  17. Your definition of "throwing money" is "a company who uses its time, and it's employees time, to work toward a reasonable solution to a problem"? The 300m$ figure was thrown out only to point out that you should be careful when you're criticizing an enormous software company (software company definition : a company that survives on creating solutions to problems :D ) If they chose to implement a flag/investigate system like what I described, that's a problem for jagex to worry about and we really can't speculate as to whether or not it can be effective based on the scale of the game. (obviously the old system doesn't work, it's an artifact from runescape classic implemented when the game had 10k players online max)
  18. you're really grasping at straws here. if they stopped this, then all a macroer would have to do is create a text file with unrelatable names and pull from that while creating accounts. seriously, what person would NOT be able to avoid this security you're proposing. What good would it do? If you think detecting "remarkably similar names" is an amazing security feature, show me all the other enterprises implementing this, please. Show me some evidence this is an amazing idea. (an article from a reputable source will suffice) how would preventing "remarkably similar names" be any kind of reasonable solution or long term fix toward the macroing problem. (how would it even be implemented from a programmer's point of view? How do you discern "remarkably similar) I'll just come out and say what I've been trying to this whole post : It's a horrible idea. "willing to monitor something as basic as account generation with remarkably similar names, they have no right to be talking about stopping goldfarming "at the source." who are you? jagex owns runescape. You have no right to be telling them what to do. Take your crappy idea and implement it in your own game. And I love how the whole time you're writing these posts you're assuming that jagex' back end detection system is awful, despite the fact that this update was put out by a company worth >300m $, and the entire purpose of it is to facilitate the back end  One pure woodcutter selling items at GE, One macroer selling items at GE flag both of their accounts for investigation. Ban one.
  19. I doubt that, as they delete accounts that have been inactive for more than 6 months. Wrong. They only deleted accounts that were inactive for the last six months prior to that update. Go on, prove me wrong. You're correct, the wording on the website is really, really poorly worded the way it works according to the website "Note: If you haven't already played Runescape Classic at least once in the last 6 months on your account, you will not be able to login. You will instead get the message "Unexpected server response". This is deliberate" They meant "at the time of this message, if you haven't already played runescape classic at least once on your account, you will not be able to login" They probably meant to timestamp that post but forget. I let my account sit 200+ days once already and was fine
  20. er, what information from runescape ISN'T stored on a database? They could implement a highscore for literally anything in game if they chose to. and I'm sure they do. Internally. For balancing purposes They could take a snapshot of the database daily and display who earned the most exp in each skill. I'm positive they've done a ton of things like this internally.
  21. Jagex is basically forced to change it back now that they opened that thread and it got 20k replies in 2 days. If they don't change it back now it will be an even bigger insult to the players J
  22. jagex is taking away all the little niche activities that players like I found fun pest control is hurting. staking is gone. merchanting is about to be dead. if you dedicated yourself to any one of these three activities you could see some accellerated success compared to other in game alternatives...slowing, or in this case stopping, the opportunity for this accellerated success is very asinine in my opinion. the lack of balance between money making through staking and money making through, say, mining is what makes the game great. Jagex is striving for perfect balance between all activities in runescape, it's making me queasy. Jagex, if player X wants to do activity Y for his entire runescape life then they should be able to. Just because there are pure merchanters/pure PCers/Pure duelers doesn't neccessarily mean that activity needs changing //no jagex, I'm not doing the quests that need 75 smithing, 65 hunter, and 55 slayer, 80 [skill i find lame]
  23. this is entirely backwards many are still going for D chains, look at the price of it. It has declined a ton. When it was first released it was over 40m. There are an insanely higher number of chains in game today than there were a month ago, a year ago, 2 years ago, etc how is the supply greater at the START? do items disappear from the game? Drops are coming in game very fast for all monsters. It's just a fact of RS and just about every game lets bet 5m on whether or not the god sword prices are higher or lower in 2 months...ill take lower on the grounds that the supply is MUCH higher...get back to me
  24. because the wildy was built around player killing and not runecrafting lol it is zamoraks land. and i think this is kind of gay honestly. especially for mage arena people who are trying to charge their god staff. other then that, dont really care all that much. *sorry to break the storyline* but... Looks more like it's paul gower's land   The wilderness is dangerous again?? oh noes. Wow this is pretty awesome for jagex to actually do this imo...why should a level 24 skeleton save you from a level 100 also, wait until the new toys start getting cheaper...the wilderness will be back in its true form soon 8-)
