what kind of music your into

Hip Hop, Rap, any form of it is cool unless it's a whack verse overall

how does your music help you

Gives me ideas for my own lyrics I produce and gives me inspiration to continue to work even when everyone shoots me down and says I'll never amount to anything

how do you relate to it

Depends, if it's a club song then there's really no relation, it's just to dance to. If it's some more deeper meaning song it can give me an idea on how to use metaphors, double meanings and stuff, pretty much I use other MC's work to improve my own but I also enjoy the story telling aspect of some songs like Hip Hop Police and relevant songs like Evening News(both by chamillionaire I know)

how does it make you feel

I pretty much covered this, inspired, can make me feel good when jiggin(not literally, don't do ex :P) to A Bay Bay or another club song

You got into trouble with the police over music... pathetic.

I'm not arguing I'm stating an opinion of mine on a public forum of which I am just as entitled as you to post on. The police get a lot of crap from people unnecessarily. If you almost got into trouble for something like your musical opinion then you must have been doing something seriously wrong on top of that. Dont give half a story to make the police out to be the bad guys.

What Merc is saying is that almost having to involve the police over something that has resulted from the expression of opinion of music is so silly that it is borderline stupid.

I tend to not listen to music with vocals. I find the human voice to be a very crude instrument. I like orchestrated music that contains anything from guitar and drums, to wood wind instruments and brass. Choirs are acceptable. I do listen to some vocalized music, but only from specific bands, and after that, it has to matter on the song, not on the band. I like linkin park and queen specifically.

I am not one for rap or hip hop just because the music requires no talent except that you can rhyme fast. If the people did the stuff actually could play instruments to the rap, then perhaps id give it a listen.

The big reason i like instrumentals is because it relaxes me, and its something i can relate to since i play in a band. I like being able to say "Damn, sounds like something id like to play on trumpet".

Edit: The majority of orchestrated music i listen to is from video games. Gives me a pretty epic feeling listening to the song that happend during an epic scene.

Metal, its more than music, its a way of life, its relation, its opinion, metal is there for you, always!

metal bands, have a way of getting to you..

First off: Well said.

Okay, now OT: I listen to bits and pieces of everything.

I usually listen to metal/scremo, and use those songs to get pumped up before a soccer game/ wrestling match.

But if I'm trying to get to sleep, or relaxing, country music or some Jimi Hendrix is best.

It's hard to explain how the music makes me feel... lets just go with "good".

[>>Refresh for new Siggie!<<]

To paraphrase Rob Gordon from High Fidelity, music is using someone elses poetry (art?) to express how you feel. I don't see how someone can actively select a song to listen to and not connect with it or relate to it.

La lune ne garde aucune rancune.

I'm a fan of rock (not the heavy stuff), some pop, some techno, etc. I'm in to pretty much everything as long as it brings memories, is real upbeat, etc. It might make me feel euphoric, sad (It might make me cry for someone --even a fictional character--.), etc.

Sometimes I listen to heavy stuff, but I'm not really in to it. The heaviest song I've listened to was Believe by Breaking Benjamin. I listened to it because someone made me mad and the song was a way to vent my anger, otherwise I'd be mad at that person for days.

I might not even listen to a song because of lyrics. Not all the songs I listen to even mean anything. I might listen to a song such as St. Jimmy by Green Day because the song is fun. Who cares if the song is silly? It puts me into a good mood when I'm feeling bad, etc.

There's a song called We're In Heaven that always makes me cry. I've lost several loved ones. The song reminds me of them. Also I listen to this song by watching a Harry Potter music video tribute. I cry for the fictional character because it's about him losing his parents.

I also like Numb by Linkin Park. Many people might say that Linkin Park is a horrible band, but I don't care. The song just really fits my life.

Some pop songs I listen to would be Remember When It Rained (Josh Groban), Breakaway (Kelly Klarkson), Innocence (Avril Lavigne).

That's about it. Oh and I hate heavy metal except for Freedom Call. Most heavy metal seems to be dark and brooding, and I don't like that.

SWAG

Mayn U wanna be like me but U can't be me cuz U ain't got ma swagga on.

To be honest I'm mostly a fan of good sounding, well written music. I like different genres for various reasons.

For example, metal. I love stuff like power metal and just general hair bands because its something I can sing along to, just have a good time with it.

Meanwhile I'll listen to something heavy, death metal / viking metal if I want to really headbang. Sometimes I'll listen to doom metal / black metal just to kind of think a bit.

I don't really take bands like Canibal Corpse and Necrophagist seriously. They are here to make fun music and to try and be as 'heavy' as possibly. Cheesy? Hell yeah, at times, but nothing is more fun than headbanging to a heavy as hell song.

Some metal I really will think about. The band Animus is a perfect example. Its the kind of music I feel like giving and diverting my attention to something.

Progressive metal can go both ways. Some bands I can just enjoy amazing riffs and musicianship while others I really look into what they're saying and the content.

I also love to listen to some punk/ska. I'm pretty selective in it but bands such as Bad religion, Less than jake and Social distortion are just awesome to sing along to. (Listening to less than jake right now as I type this).

I listen to techno as well, although some of it might be other type of electronica music. I enjoy it because some of it can sooth me, some is just fun (DJ's) and some is amazing. (Enter the storm, 1 hour 23min of greatness).

Finally really I'll listen to anything else if I enjoy it. I have a lot of classical rock bands and even though I haven't really gotten into it I'm trying to find some interesting rap to see what its like. I love the song Makeshift Patriot by Saga Francis, so trying to find something like that -- with meaning.

I guess I mostly listen to music because, well, I enjoy it. It can help and put me in any kind of mood and I have it on whenever I get the chance.

A few years ago I was into metal, a little bit of classical, and nothing else. But as of late, I've decided to expand my music tastes (I find people that are narrow-minded about the music they listen to, which is seriously most people, just miss out on the opportunity to hear some great music because they're so biased against certain genres. I didn't want to be like that) and, although I favour metal, I listen to indie, acoustic, jazz, experimental, rap, electro, and a few other genres now.

I find it's nice to have a few bands to listen to depending on your mood. Sometimes I might want to listen to something insanely heavy but, as Nadril said, with little substance, like Necrophagist or Leng Tch'e. Other times I might want to listen to something soft so I'll listen to Gravenhurst or Joshua Radin.

I don't really know what you mean by how I relate to it. But music just makes me feel happy. Music is, pretty much, my life. :)

Cool.

I listen to Reggae, Dancehall and Soca mainly. I also enjoy hip hop, particularly from the 80s, but the early 90s Gangsta Rap I also like. Add a few slow jams here and there, a touch of Old School Garage, a little Hiplife, and some 70s Soul, and that about sums me up.

To be honest the reason why I like those genres is because I grew up listening to them. My mum and dad listen to all of these genres and I have grown to love them as well. Many of the older songs have memories attached to them.

I use a different genre for each mood I am in. Reggae relaxes me, Soca/Dancehall - makes me want to dance like there's no tomorrow, hip hop can just be a daily thing, I don't need a time of day. On a bad day, I like hip hop songs that make me think, songs that I have to just sit still and listen. Make me appreciate what I have.
