Weight Gain...again...

Futurama

Recommended Posts

I'm 180 cm and weigth about 60kg. So i'm with you on that subject. I used to live on a hill and constantly walking up and down there did some good to my legs. Currently i hardly move at all and smoke 3 packs of cigarettes a day. Don't eat too much either.

A couple years ago i did some dancing and went to capoeira training about twice a week for 2 and a half hour each session. I really looked good back then and felt strong and swift.

The problem is that i'm not in an environment that would motivate me in any way like i was back then. That's important imo - circumstances that make it natural to be active.

Anyway.. if you can motivate yourself somehow then either walk or hike a lot. You'll get hungry doing that and will eat more. Even better would it be to do some sports that interest you about twice or three times a week. I'm a fan of martial arts and dancing, but i guess everybody has a different taste. I think it's important though, that you do that more then 1 hour once a week, so that you really get into it. At first it's very exhausting of course, but after a while, when you walk around doing random stuff, you just move more smooth and feel good about your body. At least it was like that for me.

If you can't motivate yourself, you'd have to create circumstances that will motivate you. It has to be natural after all. Just eating more... it doesn't work that way.

Join a rowing club, those guys are always on a look out for 6ft+ people. The sport is very demanding, and after a while you'll become a huge muscle giant like them.

I don't know try eating pasta, that stuff goes straight to my arse :(

Goes straight through to my arse. Comes out the same way it went in.

You eat through your arse....?.....South Park sure is ringing a bell right now  .

OT: Don't worry about it. My dad is 6 ft 6 in. He was as skinny as a pole (as I am) up into his early 40s. Trust me, you'll regret ever making this topic someday  . So the old saying was true. (before the total gym and all that excersize equipment was invented #-o ) Your always fat when 40. :-X ::' :XD:  :ohnoes: .

How did you train your back anyway, if you weren't into lifting. Unless you kept doing tons of pull ups.

I dunno really, maybe leg lifts during soccer practices, though I don't know the muscles that helps (I swear, we spent half the practice on those damn exercises...). But when I did some back exercises when we started training (lower body on bench, facing down, upper body hanging over end, lift upper body up with someone sitting on your legs) my dad said I had some of the best back muscles he'd ever seen, and he's got the best core muscles in the neighborhood, so he knows what he's talking about when it comes to working out.

Got a list of methods that train the back? I might have actually done one a fair amount without knowing which muscles it was supposed to train, I'm not exactly what you'd call an expert on the subject -_-'.

You do know smoking is an appetite suppressant? And girls who are smokers weigh on average 3-4 kilos less than women who don't? I can't remember what it was for men I'll have a look at my book later on but 3 packs a day is a contribution to your problem there.

Ever tried protein-shake things? Drink those with your meals, and make them high protein, high carb (Steak and potatoes, stuff like that.)

I'm not really one to talk, though: Never been able to put weight on. Working on changing that, though.

I hope you guys no how many people on this forum are going to want to punch you for these posts o_o. Being a teenager my metabolism's fast as well, but geez guys...

"weight-gain pills" C'mon, you're joking. Like everyone's beem saying, frikking eat more. And just a small hint of advice (if you guys really have small stomachs, I don't eat much myself either, but I don't feel some need to gain weight), try actually waking up before one in the afternoon, you'll have more room for food if you're all really so desperate to put the pounds on.

I have major troubles maintaining my weight - I'm not fat but not thin

I have extremely low blood pressure so need to eat chocolate and crap like that to get me through the day without fainting or feeling dizzy or sleeping 15 hours.

Then on the other hand I also have a thyroid problem which makes me gain weight like crazy if I don't go out of my way to burn it off just as quickly.

It's hell trying to balance it so that A) I don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t get sick and B) I don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t get fat.

Not me.(super fast metabolisms rule) \'

Ps: The fact that I work out might add to it also... :-k :P

Simple: Eat more.

A lot of people think they eat a lot but you'll soon realise how little you're eating for your metabolism. Sure yea, I WAS eating a lot back then, but then I realise now, how little I was eating compared to now, it's ridiculous.

Force yourself to eat more, your body will start to adapt to it, once you're adapted to eating more, eat even more.

And if you DO start to work out, don't be like the guy above and be a bench and curls guy, you'll look hideous without any back and legs and of course you'll be top, and front heavy, since you don't train your back. You'll also most likely end up with posture problems.

Eh, I've played Select A soccer for over a decade, so it's more like I'm trying to get my upper body to catch up with my legs  (since that's all I used to train >_<). I mean, I can only bench like 120, I doubt I'd be "top, and front heavy" .

My back muscles, like my leg muscles, are also far beyond my biceps, triceps and other upper body muscles as well, so again, it's more of catching up than anything, and it's really fixing my posture (I used to slouch a ton >_>).

But still, he's right. If you only train upper body you will have those problems, so heed his warning and make sure to train all of your body, not just your upper portion :P .

Lol okay, I got kinda pissed cos it seemed like you were advocating the Benchn'Curls type of training which is really annoying.

How did you train your back anyway, if you weren't into lifting. Unless you kept doing tons of pull ups.

Do reverse situps, (or butterfly situps, same thing). Lay on your stomach and lift your back up:)

im with ya buddy, im about 6'2 but im pretty thin, i eat alot more then most of my friends but i never gain any weight unless i get taller, my doctor says i just have a really high metabolism(sp?) and i play alot of sports so that keep it off too. I would suggest getting gym membership and drink lots of milk and get alot of protein and carbs in your diet.

Haha I'm exactly like you. 6'2 and skinny. I play stacks of sport and eat quite a lot. If I want to put on more weight I just need to do stacks of weight training. Which I get lazy about at times, so I remain skinny and tall.

Some people here think that weight lifting magically makes you bigger. 10% of bulking is due to weight lifting, the rest is about eating right. If you eat more, you're going to grow, with or without weightlifting, the difference will be that the mass comes from fat or muscle. Without eating, but weightlifting, you won't grow jack.

I don't care how fast your metabolism is, when I'm on a bulk I take in about 3500 cals per day, but now I'm really lazy and I'm eating about 2000 a day, cos my sleep times are messed up and can't eat proper meals.

I wouldn't state it like "90%, 10%" scenario, but more like that they're just both necessary for bulking up. If you only lift and don't eat much, you wouldn't get much stronger. But at the same time, if you only eat and don't lift... well, we Americans know what happens then of course  .
