anyways, what do you guys look for in a game before you buy it? such as good story or good online capabilities, etc.

for me a game has to be a first person shooter with good online play and large areas.

edit: also it has to have a cool cover lol

I almost always know what I"m looking for when I get to the store ahead of time. :)

Me too. And I will never understand the obsession with FPS's. Call of Duty 3 is a FPS, but it's not that great. In pretty much every genre there are more bad apples than good -- why limit yourself?

I always look up games' reviews before buying them. :)

Usually I look for:

-Online capability

-Long playability

-Good Graphics

-Good Controls

I have always tried before I bought. Exceptions were under the grandfather clause, I liked Rome: Total War so I bought Medieval: Total War (which is actually older). I liked AOEII so I bought AOEIII. Funny thing is, I didn't try either of those before I bought them, and I didn't like either of them. I spent maybe an hour between the both of them, now they just collect dust. One more exception I had was XIII, which I heard a ton about when I watched TechTV (when it was TechTV). Picked it up for like $10. I did like that one.

Those are only PC games. It works totally different on consoles for me.

Developed characters, length of game, gameplay, and storyline are the big factors for me.

I generally look at the company that makes it (I am Leary of companies I've never heard of). Basically, if its from Square Enix, I'll buy it (unless i know something terrible about it).

After that, storyline. Has to be something epic. Some murder mission or fighter is not fit for an epic storyline. It's got to teach some life lessons.

I could care less about anything else.

I generally look at a game's review before I buy it. There are plenty of online reviews on various gaming sites which provide such things. After such a review, I go through the storyline, game play, abilities etc.

If I'm satisfied that the game will be a good buy, then I'll be sure to get it. :)

Same here. I rely heavily on reviews, and just simple popularity. I didn't know what to expect when i bought half my non-sequel games, but so far I have not been disappointed (I only buy games with the highest ratings, or sequels of ones I've played before).

Life is a joke. Yeah, I don't get it either.

I look on gamespot and see whats coming out, when there are games that peak my interest I wait for sites to release reviews on it. I watch/read the reviews to see the good/bads and sometimes check the games forums to see what people are saying about the game. If it just is mediocrity or It doesn't look as good as I thought it might, I'll go rent it from blockbuster or something and If i cant get enough I'll buy it. The only accept ion is when I pre-order a game because it just looks awesome, its a bit risky to do but I did it with Dead Rising and Bioshock and those are like my 2 favorite games.

im look in websites based on the game(s) im planning to buy. a good storyline and a good price.

I look for good reviews on gamefaqs..if a game has 9/10, 10/10, 10/10, 9/10, 8/10, 10/10..it's good enough to check it out some more. If it's a 6/10, 4/10, 7/10, 9/10, 3/10...it is a no unless I've played it or have a great interest in it.

After the reviews, I look for playability and concept. I look at the length..and details on why it is unique or a good game. Then, I consider buying it.

I never consider graphics a factor of whether I buy a game or not..they aren't important IMO.

IGN Review is #1 whenever I consider buying a game. Then I check out screenshots and vids, trying to get a feel for the perspectives/controls in the game. Then I buy it and cross my fingers \' .

I look at reviews (almost exclusively gamespot, gamespy, ign...If all agree it's normally the general consensus everywhere). Equally, I look at the subject matter. I mean, reviews may give Madden or NHL a 100% (may, lol), but that doesn't mean I'm gonna pay 50 bucks for it as I don't like sports games. If an FPS gets top honours from the 3, I'll usually buy it. For RPG's, well there just aren't many good RPG's coming out anymore, so I rarely buy them. And RTS, I'll normally buy long after it comes out, for 10 bucks. Same goes for interesting-looking FPS's that get in the 80%'s.

So to recap: reviews and subject matter/genre are basically all I look at. I can find the rest out when I play it.

I usually buy bargain bin games. Cheap, often loads of fun. :D

If I don't know the game i am trying to get (very rarely), I look at the company who made it first. Then I look at the type of game it is.
