Nopheo
I think Runescape not only holds both elements but combines both elements as well. We act co-op to kill other co-ops in the wild since we make teams to fight other teams.
Kingtarantul
I prefer competitive since it is generally much more of a challenge and I prefer it that way. The fact that you are better than someone else makes you feel good about yourself. I generally don't like Co-op cause you play computers but if there were teams with people I trusted on them I think that would be highly enjoyable cause you get both worlds. LordoftheSquishies
I don't mean any offence, but the Editor seems to have developed a penchant for overblown melodrama as of late. "draw our swords"... Yeah... Personally, I enjoy exchanging insults with my WoW playing friend during AP US History. It's called banter. Also, there isn't that much of a difference between competitive and co-op as far as I've noticed. The two are switched in between so frequently that delineation can be vague at times. Consider Team Slayer in Halo, any CTF mode, or the lunar spell set in Runescape. Is casting vengeance on your friend to kill off another player competitive or cooperative? And let's not forget the classic of PJing... Teamwork in its purest form. Look at my evidence of geekdom... MWAHAHAHA!
firsttsurugi
the last few times i've been in the wildy, i didn't even attempt to BRING anything to kill someone with. wildy is good for cooking training, prayer training, and money-making in a passive manner. white berries ftw! Currently will be using my Oni Tsurugi account to attempt to get 99 on all free skills without spending any gp, just for the sake of doing so. warlordsagan
Did You Know... ... that if your barrows armour degrades to 0% while you have a full inventory, you will continue to wear it? No actually I didn't know that. I've never let it go past 25% :P Thanks for taking the time to write the article, it's basically how I feel. DingoAte
Just read it, and it was great. Personally I think all games need a mixture of competitive and co-op. Thanks for the article!
Leejjon
Not really interesting story, when you're DDing at hilz with a group you basicly take over the area and kill anyone who comes there until a bigger or better group comes and owns your group. That's called team multiplayer, you don't have to choose at all.
Xx_Flare_xX
i read the article (good to read : ) i still prefer co-op because i prefer working with friends then against friends :
Agent7771
I enjoyed reading this article, yet can you REALLY choose what you like best? Working together with friends trying to kill the KQ, then one of you dies because your not paying attension too well (nudging eachother on MSM!). Or making someone "Taste Vengance!" In the willdy? Both are very similar as both take skill and experience in doing, but no matter what, it's a game and they're meant for FUN, no matter what it is. - Agent
shivers21
one of the best articals yet.... In runecape, i prefer co-op/skilling to pking/dueling (although sometimes i will run around in then wilderness)... In the halo trilogy I like both, We normally play slayer, but co-op is also really fun. I think it depends on the game really. {DeviantART}{Last.Fm}{Join Sublime GFX, great community for artists!}Back to RuneScape, Again.Avatar by Brian The Great
unkn0wnwarrior
I have always based what kind of multiplayer I choose on who I am to go against/team up with. If it is a close friend, co-op all the way (unless they want a quick game of competitive). If it is somebody I don't know at all or don't really like too much, I generally choose competitive. In Runescape, I don't do any competitive play, since I prefer to go at my own pace and don't pk or anything.
MooseHole
I think the main reason why people argue over consoles but not so much about playing style, is that mass media instigates the argument. Companies have a monetary stake in the argument over which console is better, so they pay to advertise that they are the best and everyone else is the worst. Nobody profits from these playing styles since, as you said, most games incorporate them both, so there is no monetary advantage to people preferring one over the other. Conclusion: Stop giving into commercialism and think for yourself. Do it, you know you want to.
Fordprefect
Hmm, very interesting article. I personally enjoy co-op most, probably because I suck at most forms of pvp, heh. I personally quit subscribing to runescape in favor of WoW, and I must say I think WoW is a better game, but both games are so different in gameplay, that they really shouldn't be compared in that way. Perhaps one of the reasons that I like WoW so much is that much of the game is based on cooperating with other players, even the pvp aspects of the game are co-op based. Although I am no longer a paying member of Runescape, I have a certain fondness for the game, and continue to check up on updates and occasionally log on to skill up a bit. Every dark cloud has a silver lining, but lightning kills hundreds of people each year who are trying to find it.
monkeyboo2
Good Article. I have to admit i'm biased towards Competetive play because i'm a show off; and a winner. If i told someone i'd completed Gears of War co-op on INSANE, they would say 'well done' in a monotonous unimpressed tone. If i told someone I (and my team) won the UK Shadowrun open and got ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâã500 from it...Then i'd have something to brag about (which i do). the point is i find it much more challenging to be against opponents who have brains, and AI doesn't cut it. If the AI was ever reasonable intelligence, i might even get a genuine well done from people if i tell em i completed hard mode on a game. I like competive because of the increased rewards, the increased bragging rights and the increased challenge. Admittedly i can see why people like co-op, and i do too, but when i play it i always feel guilty thinking what i could be achieving on competetive in that time; and i don't always have the time for both. In my opinion, competitive takes priority and has more point. But thats only what i think, i can see why ppl like co-op. Yeah...Some people just go out of their way to ruin other peoples fun.Sounds like Jagex to me...
skeroh
Great article and on the descriptions of co-op vs. competitive, but it doesn't address which one the editor likes better... Retired from runescape. I will be on every now and then though. :)
