October 31, 200718 yr I've always prefered long swords for scimmy's. The longs are a little lless fast but pack more of a punch more often. The only time I use scimmy's is when trainning on lower level creatures. Barrows drops: Torags pl8, Torgas legs, Guthans chainskirt
October 31, 200718 yr All right, let's bring some math into this. I can hear all of you cheering. After all, everybody loves math. I most certainly do! At least, it's much better then throwing vague assumptions and hasty conclusions around. There was a excellent post on the RSOF (fancy that!) by a guy named Guthix God that listed weapon speeds in terms of seconds-per-hit. I think it died, but I saved his results to a file on my computer for later evaluation, and it has proved very useful for discussions like this. I had used the longsword for quite a while, and had been pretty ambivalent about the whole controversy. Then I did the math, and quickly switched to the scimy. Guthix God found that the longsword hits once every 3.04 seconds, and the scimitar hits once every 2.43 seconds. From tip.it's max hit calculator, we can find the max hit of the longsword, the scimitar, and the longsword with special. At 80 strength, this is 19, 19, and 24, respectively. Here then, is the max-damage-per-second of the weapons. Dragon longsword - 6.25 Dragon scimitar - 7.82 Dragon longsword w/ special - 7.89 As far as damage goes, then, the only use of the Dragon longsword is its special attack, which deals out slightly higher damage per second then the scimy. However, if it's special attacks that we're talking about, why not use a dragon dagger, as others have suggested? The longsword still has its uses. If you're fighting a monster that is especially weak to stab, you may want to opt for a longsword. Personally, I think the longsword looks more like a warrior's weapon then a scimitar, but that's personal opinion, and math doesn't really apply to that. :? "Less is more" -- Mies
November 1, 200718 yr I love the d long, put I prefer using a scim. Feel free to HYT me in-game =)~~3,483rd to 99 Thieving, Feb 22, 2008~~"There's never enough time to do all the nothing you want." - Calvin (& Hobbes)
November 1, 200718 yr I use the dragon scimitar because it is the fastest non-dangerous (Dharoks), non-expensive (onyx necklace), and non-controlled (whip) strength training. I did Monkey Madness relatively recently, and before I got a whip, I used the dragon longsword. I think that the dragon longsword looks cooler than the scimitar, and I like its special attack much more that the scimitar's, but the scimitar is better so I use that. November 1, 200718 yr Id say its because the D Scimmy is much more prestigous than D long ever will be. Purely because MM will always be harder than Lost city. No matter how many easier methods there are for MM the keyword is easier, never easy. Lost City remains easy and was one of the first quests i did as a member. But MM took me a LONG time which i needed the help of several people. I think merchanting is extinct.... Completed haunted mine at level 75.Barrows Drops: Dh platelegs, Guth helm, Karils cb, Torags legs-------------RETIRED------------------
November 1, 200718 yr I think the reason I believe the scimmy to be better is because I remember when it was released. Everyone thought it was the most amazing weapon. I think it looks cooler cause it was so rare when Monkey Madness first came out. I remember being one of the first people to get a scimmy and everyone would be like "wow nice weapon." So high lvls prally like it more just cause they remember it being called better at its release.

According to the KB, a scimitar can hit 6 times in the amount a longsword can hit 5. Using those figures, a scimitar can hit 6 times in 14.58 seconds. A longsword can hit 5 times in 15.2 seconds. Either Guthix God is a bit off, or the 5:6 ratio is rounded. Either way, Dragon Scimitar > Dragon Longsword. Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:

Yup, the whole effort was launched due to inaccuracies he had noticed in the Knowledge Base ratios. The system the KB uses is nice for general comparisons, but knowing exact times are priceless. It allows you to accurately calculate damage per second, demonstrating the usefulness of weapon speed. If you'd like I could PM you the data he collected. I'm always referring too it these days. Ah, but what i don't see is an accuracy report, i mean, the scim may have more damage capabilities, but how good is it at reaching them in comparison to the long? Siggy By...me! ^^ If you've got any tips on sig making, photoshop in general, or a recommendation on a good DSLR to get me started, pm me =]
November 2, 200718 yr Ah, but what i don't see is an accuracy report, i mean, the scim may have more damage capabilities, but how good is it at reaching them in comparison to the long? Pretty much the same, actually. The longsword has a +2 bonus to slash compared to the scimitar - virtually insignificant. However, like I said, the longsword is a superior stab weapon. Only the new Zamorakian spear is better then a dragon longsword + rune defender in that respect. "Less is more" -- Mies

November 3, 200718 yr i used primarily d scim and whip before i was banned, but i also bought a d long for my dragon collection and its a nice wep. IMO it hits better than scim, i just liked scim more for some reason Doing a little bit of everything

November 3, 200718 yr I used a d-long because 60-70 attack doesn't really take that long and i'll buy a whip then anyway which is better than a scimmy. I guess you could get the scimmy to lvl str but I think lvling str up to 70 with the d-long and using shared exp with the whip from then on would be more time-efficient than doing the whole monkey madness quest, from what i've heard it's pretty long. Back after 3 years.
November 3, 200718 yr I don't use it because dragon long swords are ugleh and dragon sicmitars are lovleh.
November 3, 200718 yr Author I don't use it because dragon long swords are ugleh and dragon sicmitars are lovleh. so wrong IMO Dragon Drops: Platelegs x9, Med Helms x7, Plateskirts x4, Shield Left Half x3, At least 75+ Boots!, Hatchets x5, Ruined Shard x1, Solo Claws x2, Dragon 2Hander x1, Spear x2Whip x27, Dark Bows x9, Draconic Visage x1 <- do that when you see me :P
November 9, 200718 yr The first time my friend started RS P2P, the first thing he wanted was a D Scimmy. I told him to finish Lost City for for the DDS and D Long. He listened to my advice, but when I asked him if he bought a D Long, he said he had a DDS. I asked why he didn't but it, but he said it [s**ks.] I knew then that he hated the D Long #-o. The D Long has such a bad rep because it is "slow." If I was a member, I would choose the D Long any day. Monkey Madness is too annoying for me :-$. F2P for life :D
