Wachtwoord
Lately, I've been flamed more and more ("nerd", "no-life", etc.) when I was a critical towards someone. A good example of this happened just 1 minute ago (note; the other one is level 106): He really didn't make any sence to me. Now the questions: Was this my fault? Was I too blund/rude? If so, what should I need to do to change it, while staying critical? Or; Was he too rude/flame lovely? If so, is this just one person, or does it happen more often? Thanks for your time. Disclaimer: This was just an example. My actual question is at the end "is this just one person, or does it happen more often? " When everything's been said and done, more has been said than done. All skills 80+
snowager286
you were not being to blunt or rude. You are actually quite polite, however this thread is going to turn into a bunch of tipiters foaming at the mouth about that 5 year old.......... I'm actually trying to avoid that by asking those questions at the end. I wonder if this is more common, so if it's in the community. Or if this is just a single individual. (I have had more conversations like this, not screened though.) mrmyk
Actually, you were being silly asking for the persons age just to insult them after it. I don't usually insult normal passers but I probably would have done something like that in your situation except without that asking the age thing. That's 1 step too far for a normal passerby ;). How should I (have) ask(ed) it -or any comment on his spelling, etc.- without making people upset? You can assume it is quite low without asking the question. However, the person might have been above 13 and just never had a slayer task in the cave before. It wasn't til 50+ slayer that I ever needed to go in there. Sure his grammar or spelling wasn't good but I have seen much, much worse. EDIT: possibly the person is from a foreign country o.O Proud Retired Council of The GladiatiorzClick here for our website - 110+ F2P Combat Requirements

I'd probably be upset when I asked a normal question and then someone would react with "How old are you?". Probably a better question would have been: "How come you don't know where it is?", "Could you please try to spell a bit better", or something like "are you foreign?". Yes, I've also seen worse. But in the split second you usually take to find out what someone says, I didn't understand it. berbatovsky
YOU actually broke the rules of the game, you aren't allowed to ask people in-game about their personal details (age, location, school etc...). :P we don't mind though, that rule is broken every second in-game. As for your query people are often defensive about things that embarrass them, such as having a high level and low slayer level (i don't know why this would be an issue of pride but it is). You weren't even criticizing him you were helping him. Criticizing would be saying 'oi your slayer level is poor for your level'.

I have asked like 390583459 times for peoples ages, and to this day, i have no comment about it, not from people i have asked, nor the jagex itself. Peronix
you did 1 thing wrong. you asked for his/her age. Never do that to kids, lol Not to mention asking personal details is against the rules.. For our players' privacy and safety, you must not ask for personal contact details such as full name, email address, instant messenger handles, telephone number or your home/school address. You also must not post anyone's personal contact details (including your own) on our in-game chat or forums. Says nothing there about asking age. However it might have come off as a little rude to ask the person his age, because despite your intentions, it could have looked to the person like you were assuming they were a little kid. Of course I doubt they are really 5, but if they are that is one smart 5 year old
Dalcyte
you were being a little rude by saying pretty much that he was stupid, in that he obviously should've known where the slayer cave is. But he was being just a little wierd about it lol I think calling someone a nerd or a no lifer is just when people like get frustrated and overheat their brains, and can't think of something else.
