I have to admit that most that i know about (Football) Hooligans is based on the movies "Green Street Hooligans" and "The Football Factory". However so far i figured it out Hooligan gangs (or firms) basically meet other firms and beat each other up. Often enough this happes in context of some sports event.

 

 

 

What i wonder is, why anybody even gives a [cabbage]. Why are people like: "Omg! How awful! These bad, bad violent people!" Sure there are cases of "innocent" people get roughed up, but most of the time they just bash each other. I can't really see anything wrong with that. So why does the police even bother?

Its their job.

If they just wanted to beat the crap out of each other, it wouldn't be a problem. However, hooliganism also causes millions of euros in property damage each year. During the 80s, when hooliganism was at its height, gangs would often descend upon a town on the afternoon of a big game, steal everything that wasn't nailed down, watch the game, beat up whoever was in their sights, then vandalize everything between the stadium and their ride back home. Furthermore, hooliganism is often associated with hard drug use, and the hooligans of certain clubs (Lazio Roma comes to mind) have ties to militant rightwing extremist groups.

Because in the UK it's the taxpayer who has to pay for their hospital treatments, prison food etc.

Hmmm...I don't think we have that problem in America. Sure people get in a couple of fights once in awhile at sporting events, but nothing that serious. I can see why they try to stop that sort of thing though. Losers these days...fighting over sports, Pathetic, send 'em back to the stone age.

Apart from property damage, the police force needed to escort and keep these morons in check is of course also paid from taxes.

Because, as others have pointed out, in a welfare state such as Britain or New Zealand, the tax payer must care for these fools with tax money which could be better spent on something else.

 

 

 

As such, if police can prevent them from doing so, less tax dollars are wasted. :wink:

Lol wish that would happen. Fighting over sport is ridiculous, they just want a chance to beat someone up i think.

Because when it's your car getting torched or your windows getting bricked you might have some opposition to it.

 

It also leaves a negative view of your club.

Well, in medieval times football was hooliganism. They were basically just massive semi-organized gang wars between feuding families or towns. The games were generally so violent that several kings and religious leaders tried to ban them.

My thought is that authorities mainly try to restrict hooligans, because they are afraid of violent people, rather than because of any real harm that is done.

Eugh. I hate firms they fight over Football (Soccer) Teams. I mean there are far more important things to fight about. Although it's always fun seeing a bunch of chavs send each other to the emergancy room.
