how should i get this 99 skill?

FarmerDally

Recommended Posts

ok well i love smithing and i thought it would be really neat to have 99 smithing. Not only is it a respected skill but it will be very usefull all the way up to 99, unlike say mining which is pretty much pointless after 85...

But on to my question: I've been smithing for quite some time now, smelting ore into steel bars (currently free player ) What would be the best way, including members, to raise smithing to level 99 avoiding gold ore as much as possible

notes:

-looking to make a little bit of cash or break even

-a couple mil loss is ok, with in reason, not 28 mil as it would roughly be with gold ore

-I would be willing to buy gold ore with the profits from another method....

Tell me what you think

I'd suggest iron knives. Smelt iron ore with rings of forging, make into knives and sell knives 40 each. (5 knives per bar btw) Making a nice profit. That's what I do! \'

smelting iron until you can make addy is a good idea with a ring of wealth. i got most of my smithing up this way. then, if you want money, make mith plates, until you can get something decent addy.

god must be a builder. his original quote said six days, he didnt finish on time, he buggered off, didnt make a good job of it in the first place, and he still hasnt finished.

For f2p mining all your ores is the only way to do it.

Iron Knives, You need to buy rings of forging and buy iron ore and make iron bars. Then use to make knives and sell. This produces and profit.

If you want to get mining/smithing cape and make money heres some advice:

Mining:

First mine 10K Iron ore in Varrock east Mines. Then mine 20K coal in the mining guild. Bank it all. Then if you feel like it make 10K steel bars in Al Kharid furnace(closest F2p). Then sell the 10K steel bars 650ea and make 6.5M(Tip: sell as you mine make buyers come to you). Repeat until your 80 mining which is a fast lvl for mith ores. Mine the same amount of mith ores(10k) and mine 40K coal. Make the 10K mith bars in the same spot. Sell them as you mine too. I Think they're around 1.5K each which is around 15M profit which will be combined 21.6M profit. If you don't want to sell the bars you can smith it.

Smithing:

Do the same as stated above. Then instead of selling the steel bars smith them into whatever you want to. Steel plates are the best XP and sell for 1k each. You'll make 2k steel plates and 2M from this method. Then do again as stated above. I suggest continue making plates even though they don't sell their the best xp/hour with mith.(If you become a memeber i suggest making mith bolts and feathering and selling them). Repeat until desired level.

doesnt matter...hes f2p

i suggest mining coal and then buying iron or vice versa

if u want, smelt the bars using a furnace or superheat then u can....

a. sell the steel bars for 600ea and make alot of profit..once u have enough money, but the gold ores

b. make into steel plates and sell to shop or alch then buy more supplys with alch money

hmm those are some good ideas, unfortunatly the only mining I do is power mining....banking ores really Isn't my thing I guess. so any more ideas on a smither who doesn't want to mine his own ores...just pure smelting/smithing. does any one know if smelting 12k bars then using 2k to make full steel sets and selling other 10k to break even....would that work? or is full steel pretty hard to sell? mabe clan war armour for any of you members?

Full steel is hard to sell, i suggest just making plates, and either hi-alchign em, or selling for 1k ea to an alcher.

Yes, look around the armour forum on TIF ALONE and you'll see plenty of buyers. But you get less money alching then just selling (adding the cost of nats)

But as I said if you don't want to mine your ores become and member and make iron knives.

Lol. I already been through this with Master smith. He suggests cannonballs. Thats what he did for 99. It is kinda slow but you can use profits from c balls to buy gold. What I decided to do for my case is to mine my own gold in craft guild and smelt and craft in fally furnace and alch. That way I can get mine, smith, craft, and magic exp. Its not as direct but gold is a lot faster than c balls. I did c balls for 60 to about 75.

Currently 77, I have not tried for 99.

yea that was my other option I was considering : cannon balls. So do you guys think it would be a smart idea to smelt steel to 80-85ish (my original goal) and then power level some f2p skills, become a member then continue working my smithing from then on, using cannon balls/gold ore?

Knives are a bad method tbh. Just blast furnace your way up to 99 if you have above 68 smithing. Goes at 35k/hr soloing with a 400-600 gp profit per mith plate you make and alch.

Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.

Would anyone mind telling me how making steel plates creates a profit? Doesn't that require 5 steel bars, or did they change it? 10x coal + 5x iron = 2.5 right? Way more than the steel plate will sell for.. I think I'm missing something here..
