Adventurer
This isn't going to be like a refined, neatly written argument type thing, but it should serve for some discussion. Definitions: noob - annoying, stupid player. Possibly belligerent and unwilling to listen. non-noob - everybody else I always hear comments about how noobs are the cause of stuff like an immature community, stupidity in RS, annoyance, etc. Fair enough; I guess some of them really do cause that kind of thing. However, I see a small problem in this view itself: it is far too quick to lay blame on a group of people labled "noobs" (which is an ambiguous term anyways), and doesn't take into account the actions of non-noobs that cause problems as well. One of two general problems that I see is that many non-noobs really just generalize far too much. There is a problem with people labeling annoying and stupid-acting players "noobs" because the players cannot be treated as people; he is percieved as a worthless, scummy noob who cannot be bothered with. This very perception, the generalizing, appears to be the source of rediculous and unforgiving unkindness towards anybody who does not follow some kind of an ideal. It's just rediculous how some can be so harsh and rude to "noobs". Seriously, it's like how people in real life stereotype by clothing, skin, appearance, etc. and shun them. Oh gee, I wonder why there are school shootings. People are so freaking bitter in RuneScape sometimes, and I'm really not surprised given how some people act towards others. The other problem is that people really don't take into account their own actions. Have you ever heard "Love thy neighbor as yourself"? There was a kid in Catherby begging, and I advised him to not beg as it would only earn him hate, and he flipped at me...so I asked what was wrong. He had been scammed off a beret, so I gave him some money which made him happy. Did I yell back at him? No, but imagine how different things could've been if I didn't care what my actions were. I understand that nobody really likes annoying behavior, but it's so stupid how people simply brush others off as noobs. As an alternative, they could simply be ignored. Hopefully this is coherent. As a side note: we're too quick to flame here too, if you haven't noticed. Truthscape - qeltar's excellent insights into RuneScape and moreCave Story - Best Free RPG ever-Retired. TheAncient
At first I was gonna rant out and deem this a worthless post, but after some consideration, I realize you've definitely brought up a good point and I like the way you think. It's easy to label things online because they dont "exist". When you interact with real people, it's a lot harder to say "narb, go hop servers pl0x" But I think the main point is that, even though this is trite, how you treat other people and view other people is exactly how you will end up being treated. Those "non-noobs" that label others as "noobs" really aren't doing much other than inflating their "egos", and are doing something detrimental to themselves. Smart and mature people realize this. Although "noobs" may bother them, they would never go out and provoke an argument. The fact that some people get mad so easily just reflects the immaturity of RS players across all classes, even though higher levels tend less to do this sort of thing. Hope that helps. Sharane
Noobs have been in Runescape since it was open to the public. If the community has degraded it's not their fault. lol000999
Things may have changed since I first joined but it meant a new player not someone annoying but anyway I don't use the word if someone calls me it for dieing 10 on 1. Well then to me they're just saying I win at life and I would have to agree with them ^_^.

TipIt
So... you're a liberal, right? In the animal life(which im sure is your favorite thing to talk about), The leaders and stronger members of the pack single out and bark at/shun to the back of the pack. This indicates leadership and feeding order techniques. Children come with this instinct naturally as well. Albiet I do hate stupid people, i've never labeled someone as a noob because they weren't acting like an idiot, or blaming me for something. ~0 0 spec aww My Walkthrough and Game Guidehttp://forum.tip.it/topic/11294-advertise-your-thing-here-all-posted-elsewhere-removed/page__view__findpost__p__4761261 My Youtube Channelhttp://www.youtube.com/user/USDMcatLatest Announcement:3-11-11: Both Episodes 1 and 2 of my Borderlands Walkthrough have been uploaded in HD! Sharane
^ People, read my post before you say something completely unrelated.I wasn't. You're talking about people who prejudice other players for fitting the "noob" genre, although they are themselves. From a long time high-level player viewpoint, helping some people never helps the problem which is why the majority of higher-level players tend to generalise and snob out the weaker players, hence the saying "Give a man an inch and he'll take a mile." fits the scenario. Don't just consider the lower-level player's viewpoint here. Have you any idea how many times I've been pestered, taunted, mocked and whatever else during four years of being over level 90? More times than the clicks the highest level fletcher had to do to make yew longbows till now. Players don't come into the game like this. Also, since I don't tend to categorise people I'll just blame ourselves, the veterans, for not setting a good example to the new generation of high-level players which in turn will give a bad example to newbies, turning them from begging to scamming to worse. Adventurer
^ Ok, but that last post was a bit...concise so I didn't exactly see your point. Actually, you're right too in the sense that many are just plain annoying and stupid. Sorry if it wasn't clear, but what I was trying to convey through my rambling was that TOO MANY are put into that "noob" category. Some of them are ok players; I have salvaged a few from noobish begging states and stuff. As for the part about vets not setting examples: I'm addressing more of a per-individual attitude, which many people happened to have adopted as their own. People just don't seem to treat people like people because they just use their anonymity to coldly blow off players by labeling them "noob". It's that noob-hater indifferent and rude attitude that I'm concerned about, as nobody seems to care too much about it. It's all the difference between arguing with an angry person and asking the guy, "What's wrong?" P.S. Am I rambling? reaper88888
The definiton of 'noob' has become so slippery these days; it basically means: Anyone/anything the user of said word doesn't like/agree with. qeltar
The definiton of 'noob' has become so slippery these days; it basically means: Anyone/anything the user of said word doesn't like/agree with. Pretty much, yes. Words that become overused lose their meaning, and are therefore no longer worth using for anything precise. It's just a generic insult now, like calling someone a "twit" or a "jerk" (or something worse that would break the rules if I said it. ;) ) ~q Qeltar, aka Charles KozierokWebmaster, RuneScoop - Premium RuneScape Information for Expert Players -- Now Free!Featuring the Ultimate Guide to Dungeoneering -- everything you need to know to get the most of the new skill! Severation
The definiton of 'noob' has become so slippery these days; it basically means: Anyone/anything the user of said word doesn't like/agree with. You could say it's become an adjective, instead of a noun, with the way that people are just throwing the word around without any consideration or thought.
