Okay, this will sound a little weird. For my social demographics class my teacher has assigned a survey for this chapter. I don't want to start any flame session, so please if you would like to answer just reply to the initial post.

1. In your opinion, what is truth?

2. Do you believe in God or Allah or Buddha or any other deity or higher force, power, or being?

3. Can you give any reasons for why you believe/disbelieve in the above?

4. How would you describe this being etc(the answer to number 2)? (If "yes to 3")

Thanks

1. Is this a trick question? Frankly in the simplist form I would describe truth as the absense of lies in a given moment.

2. I am a Catholic, I believe in God.

3. I was raised to believe in His presence. Reflecting back to question 1, I believe that God is the truth since I have yet to find any lies about his presence. We know for a fact that Jesus, one of the three parts of God (God the Son) was alive because of writings from ancient roman disbelievers, like a man I believe was named Pliny the younger. He asked the roman emperor, Trajan, how to deal with Christians and Jesus.

4. Another trick question? I would say God is truth, thus truth is the absence of lies, and so God is the absence of lies. The bible isn't a lie, no matter what others say. He is the "Good shepherd" and he loves you even if you don't love him back, and hes ready to forgive you if you turn away from him. I don't listen to what the Atheists say about him. They think they know all about him by reading the Bible and disproving christian beliefs by it, but they still can't understand the Bible is not a text book for history or a "Christian for dummies" kind of manual. It is for issues of faith only and to show God's love for us. Thus, I can't see what atheists have that could possibly say "the bible is wrong" since of course they have nothing to compare it to. Again, reflecting on question 1, God is the absense of lies. Many will claim he is the very definition of lies because of the Bible, and hate christians because of it. As said in the Gospel of Luke "you will be hated by all because of my name".

[hide=]

tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :(
But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities.
That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.

It keeps me in check.
I hope that's not a main reason why? :S Disturbs me that the only thing stopping some people from murdering and pillaging is because the fear of gods wrath.

No, it means when I'm in need (or whatever) I have someone to turn to.

1. In your opinion, what is truth?

Anything that is fact (Being something which can't be wrong and is backed up in an way that can't be disputed).

2. Do you believe in God or Allah or Buddha or any other deity or higher force, power, or being?

Nope.

3. Can you give any reasons for why you believe/disbelieve in the above?

Where is the evidence? Science explains everything that happens in this world. Religion explains things to an extent, though not in a way that I find it believable.

1. In your opinion, what is truth?

Truth is something many humans perceive as real and scientifically provable. Personally, I believe that truth isn't bound by science or reality, and may not even exist outside of the human ego.

2a. Do you believe in God or Allah or Buddha or any other deity?

I do not believe in a deity.

Buddha, in the general sense, refers to anyone who has been "enlightened" or "awakened". Buddha is not a deity -- many sects of Buddhism are actually atheistic.

I believe and follow many Buddhist philosophies, but I am in no way inclined to worship a diety or be fearful a superior being.

Note that some people might interpret "the Buddha" differently as many would refer to Gautama Buddha (the founder of Buddhism).

2b. Do you believe in a higher force, power, or being?

For me, a "divine power" can be anything from a beautiful flower on Earth to the expansive universe that we live in. But this is not a "force" as it has no direct power over our lives. It's just there. :|

3. Can you give any reasons for why you believe/disbelieve in the above?

I don't believe that any deity/force has direct control/power over the lives of humans. I've never felt the need to believe in God or another deity.

4. How would you describe this being etc(the answer to number 2)? (If "yes to 3")

N/A.

In my opinion, understanding deities or a divine force is beyond the mental capabilities of humans. Any beliefs we have are mere speculations. Something as specific as a description of the being/deity will end up as a complete guess in the dark.

Sorry if my answers are all a little vague. :) It was a pretty open-ended survey.

1. In your opinion, what is truth?

Truth is a factual statement or idea.

2. Do you believe in God or Allah or Buddha or any other deity or higher force, power, or being?

Yes, God.

3. Can you give any reasons for why you believe/disbelieve in the above?

I am faithful in my beliefs, and I believe that everything that happened involving the creation of mankind could not have been the results of an "accident".

4. How would you describe this being etc(the answer to number 2)? (If "yes to 3")

Perfect, almighty, forever powerful, forever intelligent, amazing, unbelievable, indescribable.

The truth is anything that can be proven in some way.

2. Do you believe in God or Allah or Buddha or any other deity or higher force, power, or being?

Yes, I believe in God.

3. Can you give any reasons for why you believe/disbelieve in the above?

Because, I need to feel like life has some reason. I enjoy believing we are on Earth to do more than breath, eat, drink, sleep, and mate.

4. How would you describe this being etc(the answer to number 2)? (If "yes to 3")

Tough question. Similar to the force from Star Wars I guess. Everywhere at once, and always with you, but not a physical being.

(1) Of course there's no lies about him, he's god. You should dwell on this more. What do people do when trying to make up a grand concept? They make it irrefutable, shiny, sacred, pious, all powerful, all knowing, all wise and everywhere and the epitome of truth. There are no lies when it comes to such a concept, according to how it's defined.

(2) Maybe the atheists that do this do it to combat those who see the bible as a literal text book full of nothing but fact. The ideas of gods love and your faith that you get from the bible wouldn't likely be an atheists gripe with it, although many of them, like me, dislike the concept of faith being anything virtuous.

Seppuku :o!

:(

1. Something that can be proven, in some sense something that can be generally accepted as true.

2. I honestly can't answer that right now, but I'm pretty sure I believe in spiritual forces of some kind.

3. Life is too complicated for there not to be some kind of life system of rebirth or heaven or something like that.

4. I don't know if I believe in a single being controlling all, but again, I can't completely answer that.

1. In your opinion, what is truth?

Hard one, but something that really is/happened etc. and can be proven with logical explanations.

2. Do you believe in God or Allah or Buddha or any other deity or higher force, power, or being?

Yes I do.

3. Can you give any reasons for why you believe/disbelieve in the above?

The world is too complex to have happened by itself or by chance. A creator must be involved.

4. How would you describe this being etc(the answer to number 2)? (If "yes to 3")

Do you mean physical desription if so, a person-like thing that exists but is unseen.

1. What can be proven to exist, even without being directly seen. For example, ghosts aren't real to me, but quarks are.

2/3. I have strong doubts on this one. Though I don't firmly believe in a God, the idea of being born by mere luck sounds illogical to me. Also, I've had some kind of experiences where I say to myself: "if that wasn't a higher being influencing my life, then I'm the luckiest person on Earth".

4. N/A. Maybe not as a being, but as a combination of beings/forces.

This signature is intentionally left blank.

1.Pretty simple question really, truth is just facts. Not lies. I don't know if there is supposed to be a deeper meaning to that question but if there is I can't see it.

2. Yes.

3. Basically, in my opinion, it just makes life easier. It is nice to think that I will again see people that have passed on once I myself have died. Also if I ever feel that there is nobody I can talk to, I will talk to God. I don't believe in all the bollocks about going to church every week and stuff, it is a waste of time, I just believe that God would want us to go through our lives being good people. I also think that purgatory is a good idea, like to spend time there to attone for sins while i would hope that Hell doesnt exist.

So basically, I really don't know if God exists or not, noone does, but there is no harm in believing in a God or some sort of superior being, as long as you don't force your views and opinions onto other people. It just makes life nicer/easier.

4.I don't know. I have never met him/her/them/it.

seems like a lot of people say "no" to question 2

1. In your opinion, what is truth?

Something that is the opposite of a lie, 100% correct (someone said that already, but i'm not sure who)

2. Do you believe in God or Allah or Buddha or any other deity or higher force, power, or being?

I'm budhist(sp) actually so i believe in the Buddha, but this year, i've started to question myself about this very question... so I guess currently right now, no.

3. Can you give any reasons for why you believe/disbelieve in the above?

I disbeleive in the above, for now, because there is no scientific proof, nobody has seen any proof of them is what i mean.

2. No. I don't believe it true that there are any "gods"

1. In your opinion, what is truth?

Truth is perception, but the preception of the majority and/or those in power dictate what is known as truth.

No.

3. Can you give any reasons for why you believe/disbelieve in the above?

Tried and I just didn't have the faith, and I just don't feel like there's anything else out there. That and the ton of research I've done on various religions seems to be my reasoning.

Like I said in my last post, using the term Buddha is a bit ambiguous.

It can either refer to Gautama Buddha, like you have pointed out, or, in the general sense, a Buddha can refer to an individual who has become fully "enlightened" or "awakened".

With proper efforts and techniques (mostly dealing with Buddhism), any individual can become a Buddha.

I'm budhist(sp) actually so i believe in the Buddha, but this year, i've started to question myself about this very question... so I guess currently right now, no.

If you can't spell your own religion (it's Buddhist) then you probably aren't taking it very seriously. :-k

Good analogy- he, Jesus, Lao Tzu, etc., they're all relatively similiar in that they all most likely existed (I'd have a hard time believing any of them didn't exist), but the history of their lives are fairly legendary (Lao Tzu being born 82-years old, Jesus being born from a virgin, etc.).

1. In your opinion, what is truth?

Truth is a matter of opinion for me, I can say its true that my hair is long but then someone can have a different idea of truth and say that I'm lying, in my eyes there is truth and there is fact

2. Do you believe in God or Allah or Buddha or any other deity or higher force, power, or being?

I believe something made me but I don't know what or who it was, its like if you build something out of lego would you tell it your name or show it any attention?.

3. Can you give any reasons for why you believe/disbelieve in the above?

the reason I believe something made us is quite simple everything has a reason for happening, to believe we just magically appeared one day is a lot more farfetched then believing something made us.

A giant tyrannosaurus who wears a hat and has nothing better to do, hes probably called Arizark and can shoot lasers out of his eyes.
