Okay, this will sound a little weird. For my social demographics class my teacher has assigned a survey for this chapter. I don't want to start any flame session, so please if you would like to answer just reply to the initial post.

1. In your opinion, what is truth?

2. Do you believe in God or Allah or Buddha or any other deity or higher force, power, or being?

3. Can you give any reasons for why you believe/disbelieve in the above?

4. How would you describe this being etc(the answer to number 2)? (If "yes to 3")

Thanks

1. Truth is the presentation of facts in such a way that they are based on current observations by humans.

2. I believe in no higher being.

3. I disbelieve in a higher being because there is no 'truth' (presentation of current facts) on any such being. Also, I see no reason to believe in any such being as I do not need to find a way in life, or attempt to get answers for things that happen. I feel that things happen randomly and for no reason.

This is so anonymous, let me tell you...

Anyways:

1. In your opinion, what is truth?

Much like lionheart, truth is what we can observe and prove to be true through scientific means.

2. Do you believe in God or Allah or Buddha or any other deity or higher force, power, or being?

No.

3. Can you give any reasons for why you believe/disbelieve in the above?

Aside from just not having any faith in a higher being (I just don't 'feel' like there is one) there just isn't any evidence to support the fact that there is a higher being.

4. How would you describe this being etc(the answer to number 2)? (If "yes to 3")

N/A.

TBH I pretty much just agree with Lionheart.

1. Truth is that which is completely correct, without a doubt.

2. No

3. No evidence to support it, evidence against it (Genesis itself anyways)

4. N/A

And yea, this isn't very anonymous. You should have had them pm you or something, that way only you see it.

1) Truth is what is. Being the falliable creatures we are, we can often miss the mark, thus why accountability in our truth searching is a must have. For example, for many centuries it was common knowledge that the sun revolved around the earth. People thought this was true but it wasn't. We now know beyond any reasonable doubt that the inverse is true - the earth revolves around the sun. The truth didn't change, but our explanation of the relationship between the sun and the earth did due to our improved knowledge and insight.

2) No.

3) Lack of evidence, it's a pseudoexplanation for everything, I prefer knowledge over belief and there is no reason for me to believe in such ideas.

Just to elaborate on the pseudoexplanation, anyone can believe in an assumed character with assumed defined characteristics to explain anything. The interesting thing is such an idea somehow requires no explanation itself and is held as if it were an accurate explanation for whatever it is supposed to be explaining. Some of these deities turn out to be redundant when their explanations are more accurately filled by science and cultures lose interest. Take Thor and his proposed governance of thunder, for example.

1. Truth is what is absolutely correct, with 0% of error. Anything that is almost certainly true, but with a very slight chance of error, is not truly true (pun intended), but can be referred to as truth.

2. Yes.

3. Life is far too complicated to have evolved by random processes. Also, many prophecies in the Bible have come true.

4. Omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent, holy, and merciful (by His perspective).

Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:

Nah, seriously, don't belive in god or anything because there are too many gaps in the stories and I guess I'm just not religious.

1. In your opinion, what is truth?

When something is 100% correct.

2. Do you believe in God or Allah or Buddha or any other deity or higher force, power, or being?

Not as a object, but as a symbol. Selfishness and selflessness, or the Light and the Dark.

3. Can you give any reasons for why you believe/disbelieve in the above?

We all fall in one of these categories, and storys such as the Bible symbolize them. God is Light, the devil is Dark.

4. How would you describe this being etc(the answer to number 2)? (If "yes to 3")

Light is more of an understanding person, who considers other people and their well-being. Dark is the selfishness of people.

1. In your opinion, what is truth?

Truth is something we accept as real after substantial evidence and observations present it as such; something that takes a lot of stupidity to try and argue, because it is so commonly accepted. You can't really argue about us being alive without really stretching and skewing everything.

2. Do you believe in God or Allah or Buddha or any other deity or higher force, power, or being?

No.

3. Can you give any reasons for why you believe/disbelieve in the above?

I guess you could base it off of my definition of truth. I have always preferred having physical evidence, something that I can see, feel, know rather than attempt to speak with my ceiling, hoping it will go out and bring world peace.

1. In your opinion, what is truth?

Something we all seek to find but, in the end, can never in a million lives fully understand.

2. Do you believe in God or Allah or Buddha or any other deity or higher force, power, or being?

Buddha's cool wit me. He ain't a deity though so that might not be answering your question.

So, no for the rest of it.

3. Can you give any reasons for why you believe/disbelieve in the above?

I believe in da Buddha 'cause I love his teachings. I believe they're true, but at the same time they're so multilayered that I can't say I fully understand it just by, say, going to Church every other-other-other-other-other Sunday. In fact, it'd take forever to fully grasp what he teaches, but every new layer scowered brings new insights and understanding to his true message :) .

For the deity part of the question, my answer is Strong Agnosticism- as has been said, there's just a lack of evidence.

4. How would you describe this being etc(the answer to number 2)? (If "yes to 3")

Good luck getting away from atheism and agnosticism where social demeanor means squat and anonymity rules dude :P .

Anything that can be proven, (i.e. 1+1=2)

Yes

3. Can you give any reasons for why you believe/disbelieve in the above?

Although I believe there is truth in mathematics and science, that doesn't answer why math and science works. When we attempt to describe the world scholarly, we are only explaining how the world works, not what made the world work. What makes the world work? that is god.

4. How would you describe this being etc(the answer to number 2)? (If "yes to 3")

this being, as in the higher intelligence? Well, I don't think it is a being, I don't think it can be described in terms of words. Words cannot describe it in truth, just as math cannot describe the world in truth.

1. In your opinion, what is truth?

I don't really know. That's why I don't impose what I think upon others.

2. Do you believe in God or Allah or Buddha or any other deity or higher force, power, or being?

Yes, I think there's a 'superior being,' but I it's always a possibility that whatever this supreme being is, isn't what the bible, koran, etc. speak of

3. Can you give any reasons for why you believe/disbelieve in the above?

Because by saying that there's no superior being, it's the ultimate arrogance. The universe is so vast that there could be another universe somewhere, another dimension, etc. that we will not find the truth (for the coming generations at least)

4. How would you describe this being etc(the answer to number 2)? (If "yes to 3")

Something that's superior to us, not limited by human logic

Thanks

1. In your opinion, what is truth?

There are different kinds of truth and I don't think there is any one particular answer. In terms of absolute truths, all I can think of are mathematically proven statements. In terms of other kind of truths, "true/false" statements etc. we can only ever know what we perceive to be true through empirical observation and experiment, the scientific method is the ultimate vehicle for finding the truth.

Give me a reason to believe in something for which there is no evidence. The only justification for believing in a higher power could be that it is simply a matter of faith, I don't take anything on faith.

I believe in the possibility of a higher force/power/being.

Bad survey.

1. Its not anonymous

2. Question 1 is too opened ended. The question has not been defined enough and is too vague

3. Question 2 has more than one question in the same line. Could be No to a deity but yes to a force etc.

4. You should minimise it to a maximum of three reasons or you will have too much data to analyse. Open ended questions are a pain.

5. Question 4 is confusing and not clear and also too opene ended to be of any use.

I don't believe this to be for a school project as it is terri9bly laid out. It really is a mess and the data would be useless for any reporting.

So to answer...

1. Agreement with fact

2. No, no, no. No, no, no.

3. No evidence. Unfeasable

4. N/A

1. In your opinion, what is truth?

Truth is what cannot be refuted, this means not much is truth.

2. Do you believe in God or Allah or Buddha or any other deity or higher force, power, or being?

I believe that God is not a physical being but a force of good or evil that judges how people live their lives. Saying that allah definitely doesn't exist in any form is wrong because those who follow god/allah use them in their everyday life and something abstract such as god doesn't have to exist as a thing but as a feeling or a set of emotions that people use to live their life more "holy".

3. Can you give any reasons for why you believe/disbelieve in the above?

Even if god doesn't exist in a physical form the belief in him has drastically effected the world, in a way its irrelivant if hes a "real" thing.

4. How would you describe this being etc(the answer to number 2)? (If "yes to 3")

As i've said a mental form that changes peoples views on life and their experiences, god is abstract the same way love is, changing lives but not existing as a physical entity.

Considering people who don't believe in god will use the bible to say "well that didnt happen", i personally believe the bible should not be taken literally, but as a set of morals that good christians should abide by. I doubt many christians would say that god created the heavens and the earth in 6 days but the stories have a more spiritual meaning over some overly scientific justification.
