Is it possible to get banned for intercepting drop trades?

Featured Replies

Well, the funny news: I think I might have a drop trader. I was just banking some willows when I saw a low-leveled player disappear into a room. A while ago, some p-mods were talking about intercepting drop trades, so, just for fun, I decide to wait there outside for a minute, and sure enough, a noted item appeared. I rushed for it (He shoots...), and I got (He scores!) around 15k willow logs!

Just for kicks, I decided to wait a while to see what the person's reaction would be, but they never appeared.

Anyways, here's my question. A long time ago, if you intercepted someone's drop trade, they would be like "give it back or I'll report you" and we would just laugh at them. However, due to Jagex punishing innocent players these days, is it possible to get banned for intercepting a drop trade?

Suppose that an autoer cuts 1k yew logs and tries to drop trade it to their main, but I intercept it. Will I get banned because Jagex thinks I'm the one that autoed the 1k yew logs?

I'd really like to intercept autoers' drop trades, but I'm afraid that I'd get banned. :\

My suggestions for testing it out:

If you have a noob account you don't really care about, use it.

1. Intercept drop trade, make sure to yell something along the lines of "Take that, drop traders!"

2. enjoy the fruits of your labor

3. Wait a while....

4. Your ban status in a couple weeks should tell you whether or not to do this on you main account.

Umm...

I don't think you'll be punished for doing this so long as there is no percievable connection between their account and yours (same IP add. etc), although I don't know how JaGEx feels about taking advantage of rule-breakers!

Don't follow me. You might not make it.

All your accounts are belong to us now.
If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator

If there as thorugh as they claim, they should realise that you were logged on some time befor the dropping account logged out. I think they generate a list of accounts that belong to what other accounts, so a ban should only occur if items from one acccount show up on another account that looks lik eit belongs to the origanal.

Jagex already has to deal with multiple people in one house playing the game, sometimes all on the same computer. They seem to be able to sort those situations out so this should really be easy for them.

I've never had any bad results from intercepting drop trades, other than being called a scammer by the drop-trader, and that's just funny.

Still, it seems to be a moot point now, if I'm understanding their newsposts correctly. No more valuable items/stacks in drop-trades, right?

Yeah. at best you could intercept 3000 gp...

P2P forever!... Or at least 'til <insert excuse here> happens

98% of people have signatures with made up statistics in them. If you're one of the 2% that doesn't, copy this and add it to your signature.

Well, I don't think that you would be banned. You're just picking items up from the floor, and you haven't drop traded anything! You're also helping Jagex by making a rule-breaker lose his profit.

But maybe it's the best not to try this, since I know some people who have got banned because of really un-neccessary stuff...

Yeah. at best you could intercept 3000 gp...

With the new update...

"Wow! An autoer has dropped 3000k of yews! Awwww, I get only 3k gp"

Of course the wouldn't be autoers dropping that.

your question falls under rule2

their faq states if someone dropped it they obviously have no use for it therefor it is fair game ^,^

You and the drop trader have two different IPs, it should be ok.

According to the rules: you're doing nothing wrong.

Actual real world: Possibilty of being banned, due to jagex thinking you're taking stuff you bought with rl cash. Of course, wether you did or not doesn't make a ton of difference to jagex, you may or may not get banned.

well, as of today, this is no longer possible :XD:
