Real World Trading gone... A new threat on the horizon?

Featured Replies

With Real World Trading all but gone, the new market of selling accounts has opened up. How do you think this will affect RuneScape?

You use the term "new" pretty loosely.

As long as people have been buying money they've been buying accounts...

More difficult for the cheats, much easier to track, and more chance of having your account retroactively nuked when the person you bought it from is caught later on.

Not saying it won't happen more, but it's likely to be less of an issue, IMO.

I don't think it'll be any worse than it is now, most of the accounts bought/sold were pures anyway, which are basically pointless now.

Quit RS, combat 104, total 1651

In my opinion, there is no way to stop RWT of accounts. Once the deal is done, the account seller already has the money, and leaves the buyer to part with an account that's going to be banned. No way to stop it at all. This includes also RL interaction of trades, but on a larger scale through the internet.

My meaning is that it's more of a threat than ever before.

sorry, but I.P. detection technology has this nailed to the ground. I don't know the details, but I do know you won't want to be buying an account ever.

What's the point in buying an account anymore? They, for the most part, eliminated RWT by eliminating much of the appeal of the game. If the game is no longer popular, then people will not try to run a black market in it.

People can use proxies and delete the U.I.D. If that's done and the transaction has been completed, it's virtually undetectable.

I hope they are somewhat lenient on this...

I don't want to buy or sell any accounts, but I'll be moving soon and so my IP will change and I'll have a new computer... sooooo I don't want to get banned :D

I'll also be using a new CC

If Jagex really determines that this is a problem, they can eliminate the problem by moving away from a browser-based client. Seems extreme, but then.... :)

You read it right, real world trading (RWT) is now going to get worse. The updates will stop trading gold to others but now RWT'ers will switch to selling RS accounts.

Get ready to have all trianing spots crowded out by bots people!

I know you are thinking people won't buy accounts but they will. This is actually the form of RWT I am most familiar with from RS1 as back then people mostly bought high level accounts along with buying RS gold.

Previously adults (probably in their 30s) were buying RS gold so they could level faster and get good gear. Now they will buy a level 120 with a good bank and money making skills.

Jagex won't be able to stop it either. As we have seen by now, they are powerless to really stop bots by banning them, all the RWT'ers do is to make yet another bot.

Solutions? Thoughts?

It's just RWT trying to get rid of their suplies before the update takes effects.

That's true, instead of one sweatshop worker handling ten autoers, it'll be one sweatshop worker handling one player, and a damn buff one. Accounts sell more than most set-amounts of GP, correct? So they'll clearly move on to selling accounts. I only fear what Jagex might do to stop the selling of accounts though...

I apologize. I did not see this thread before I posted mine. I will try to have a mod merge them or close mine.

Not really.

It's not AT ALL as good of money to sell accounts. A very good account takes *significantly* more time to make than an equal amount of gold.

Account selling/trading will be minimal. I'm quite confident that I'm correct.

It's simply not a viable option...for anyone.

No, you make much more money selling GP then accounts with high stats :-w

gotta say ur def right i've been checking out forums and its been said about 50k people have quit RS and u gotta think if they quit what they gonna do with their account..correct sell it to someone who will pay for it then all of the people spending countless hours raising skills are pretty much screwed...

Back before Jagex shut down the free version of RSC, some players macroed loads of accounts to high levels just to sell them.

Don't say they eliminated the appeal, just say they added appeal by allowing you to pretend your Clint Eastwood in "For a Few Dollars More!"

I'm staying positive. I know that people will change their views eventually, just as Muhammad Ali said.

Currently will be using my Oni Tsurugi account to attempt to get 99 on all free skills without spending any gp, just for the sake of doing so.

It all depends how much are accounts valued. And I haven't got a clue.

If its pretty cheap, then to hell what I just said. :P

Personaly, I think Jagex had the right Idea. But they are falling fast...

They put out to many anti-Freedoms at one time....

basicly I hate PKing but I like the treat of it being there...

RuneScape has not been tossed into Oblivion like some say. Its just one of those times... Like how our Canadian Dollar is higher than the American dollar... or was.. or something like that...

that actually is very true, plus i can see how an account with lvl 60 woodcutting and combat 90 along with 20M gp would be worth alot of money

This is what I am referring to. Most new players are not aware of this type of RWT but it has/can/will be done.
