CoD4 Player Arrested? (Call of Duty)

I've decided to take on the law enforcement of this forum.... everyone in tip it will be arrested as of now for conspiracies against the White House, George Bush and most importantly Jagex.... :shame:

Quick! Everyone tie him up, gag him and lock him in the Freezer! He knows too much!

I doubt the admins will be fool enough to give away our IPs to ANYONE without explict permission from the user. Fact is they are not allowed to, and it could be an invasion of privacy.

For anyone who doubts me, the Admins can see the ips of online users and guests from the admin panel.

Do you really think that if the FBI is doing an investigation, a couple of nerds running a forum are going to stop them?

and yes they would have the right to seize our ips if we were an apparent threat.

To everyone who says he deserves it for making jokes.

Please just shut up and get off your damn high horse.

He makes a joke about shooting up his school and you want to punish him for that? When the hell did we end up in paranoia land anyway? George Carlin made some less than tasteful jokes about suicide and school shootings (we didn't care we just went on with our lessons "o.k. if you have 37 classmates and 4 of them are shot how many do you have now?"), should we arrest him or burn him at the stake as you would probably suggest?

OF COURSE NOT. Why? Because we have something called freedom of speech and I'll be damned if I lose that freedom just because some insane guys shot up a school and that got a bunch of people paranoid over it. A great man once said "those who would give up an essential liberty for even temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety".

You might say "but fathertime he was making a threat." WRONG, he was telling a joke or saying something out of anger not meant to be taking literally. Then some panicky guy called the police and now this man's in trouble for no good reason. To put this in perspective think of all the times you said "I'll kill you" did you ever mean it even once? Didn't think so.

This kind of stupidity by our police force and our school system should not be tolerated at all, yet unfortunately it is. Why one kid even got expelled for making a counter strike map of his school (even after he was deemed not a threat by the police he was still expelled). Most developers start off by making levels of places they go to regularly (house school park whatever). Should we still expel the kid even though the rare event of a school shooting is to be taken seriously.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to find a copy of JFK reloaded and if I can't I'll just play Super Columbine RPG. Oh those columbine victims, killed by two guys who can't even build a bomb corretly. :XD:

And we know he was joking -- how, exactly?

And stop comparing this to other stuff that is not the same thing. The arrest for making a counter strike map of the school, that was stupid. All of the contraversy over JFK Reloaded and Super Columbine RPG, also stupid.

I hate it when the media blames games and more importantly when the media does stupid stuff as well. I hate it when the police force locks someone up because of extreme paranoia.

However, if it sounded like a threat it sounded like a threat. Please remember that it was just two other gamers like you and me that made the phone call because they were worried it could be for real.

Again, you just look at the medium the threat was made over and dismiss it entirely. You think, well, it was over a game so obviously its fake 'cuz games are fake -- or some kind of skewed logic.

A threat can be real no matter what the medium. I have heard times where someone on the something awful forums posted about help to kill someone, and actually did go through with it. Yet, it was just something silly over the internet -- right?

My point is people have to use good judgement. I was not there to listen to this guy on CoD 4, nor were you. You have no idea of his tone of voice or anything of the situation at all. Instead, you just assume that this is just another incident of those 'darn stupid policemen' with out knowing all of the story.

I was glad that these two people who reported him, quite frankly, had the damn balls to do it. They cared enough in light of recent tragedies to possibly stop another one.

And, yes, it probably was all in vain. Chances are the guy would not have shot up his school, chances are he probably was making a joke. But for all those who are joking, how many are actually serious?

Also, almost missed this. Your freedom of speech -- oh my! I'm sorry but you do not have the damn freedom to issue DEATH THREATS no matter the medium. Again, as in an earlier post, it wasn't like he was saying he'd kill the guys he was playing against. If he got arrested for saying he'd kill some guy who is half way across the world that would be stupid, because he has no means of finding out where he lives and chances are no means of getting over there.

But issuing a threat about something he is near is something taken seriously no matter what. Again, I ask: would you turn in someone who seemed suspicious and you heard talking about shooting up the school, if you were next to him in real life? Or would you just ignore it thinking it as merely a joke.

He probably sucked at CoD4 anyways.
im pretty good, my highest kill streak is 19, how about you?

Actually, I haven't played it yet. o.o I'm hoping to pick it up for Christmas, would you say it's worth it? But uhhh back on-topic, and in a serious post, I'd have to agree with Nad here -- whilst I see why you guys could see it to be harmless, considering it seemed like an empty threat, but considering recent events, I understand why people are a little more cautious about this kind of thing.

My friend called the cops on some guy who reported that he was going to shoot up a mall in Beverly Hills. He was arrested.

Yeah okay I wasn't thinking.

If they have significant proof then yes they could get our ips.

Anyway in order to get our ips, they would need to contact a forum admin in real life, which means tracking him or her down. I mean I could claim to be a FBI agent over the internet, anyone could. Which is why the admins would not give away ips over the internet without permission from the user.

I hope they lock him up for a long while. Telling somebody you will shoot up a school is not funny, and pretty [bleep] stupid.

I'm gonna blow up the white house tomorrow.

good luck

I mentioned freedom of speech because some people specifically said he should be thrown in jail for even joking about school shootings (hence the less than tasteful joke at the end).

Also I think I read somewhere that most people who go on school shootings only tell their close friends (if anyone at all) about their plans. Not random people, that would be stupid.

:? Seems that the police are cracking down on internet communities.

I'm sure many of you heard about the guy who got taken away by the party van (FBI) for posting that he was going to shoot up a mall in the USA (and he was in Australia).

This is the description of the internet board he posted it on:

The stories and information posted here are artistic works of fiction and falsehood.

Only a fool would take anything posted here as fact.

Here is the video of the news in aussie land about this.

Welcome to the U.S.A., whose legal system sucks on more things than I could name in one post, and everyone is paranoid as hell.

If he meant it to be a joke, they shouldn't jail him for saying that, that's like being communist for criticizing the president.

The article is a tad bit biased anyhow.

Sad but true. <.<

My pal's marching band dropped out of their band tournament because they used the American Flag in one of their marches, and the judges knocked off points for it.

I do love my country, but we need to fix the problems here. And if we're trying to do that, we CAN NOT have Hillary Clinton as our President.

I would call thread a guy that starts to speak about nazi thinking and then says "I will kill everybody in the college in this address". But you simply can't give 2 years of jail to a guy for saying "Omg noobz, i h8 ya soz much i ma goin' to kill all ppl in my school and cut their arms off".

You still don't know the entire story. You don't know how the person said it.

All I am saying is people should try and view everything the same no matter the medium. Of course -- if the find the kid innocent, he should be just that -- innocent. It shouldn't go beyond that.

Im not going to make a judgement on the American legal system or the authorities, as I am from the UK, but from what I can see from that article things have gotten out of hand. I have heard about the shootings at Virginia Tech and the shopping center incident recent so I can understand why this was taken seriously, but is there really any need for a fine? Makes you feel good don't it when you find out that real, dangerous criminals are on the streets and yet the one's who haven't actually done anything against the law are being arrested and fined.
