Tip.it Times Presents: Jagex, I want a GOOD update!

Featured Replies

Nice article. To be honest I've quit because of the updates but I am still very glad that jagex stroke the RWT very hard. Too bad it stroke me to.

I love that there is a limit on what you can trade.

I have seen far too many people have a character that has a decent level, that they then use to funnel resources to their "mules". (Mule = second or third character that receives benefits from first character)

They create a mule to be a 'pure' cook or miner, but those 'pure mules' have their inventory given to them by the main character; like a bunch of raw food to cook; or the higher level picks.

With the limit put on trading - there is work involved in getting those 99 capes once more.

People ask me how many achievement capes I have. I dont have any. My first acheivement cape is hopefully going to be HP. Becuase I want to get all the levels through playing the game as it was meant. Not as a mere status level to show off. (Plus I think the capes are rather tacky looking really.. but I digress)

And so the game has changed. Everything changes. If things do not change, they stagnate. Do you want to stay 14 years old the rest of your life? Or do you want to grow and change? Become better at somethings? Learn new things? Sometimes to get better you fail first.

Let those that dont like the changes leave. They gripe too much anyway. I for one applaud Runescape for trying to grow.

I just wanted to say that i really liked this article... and it has some good points in it...

An update can never be good for all players, and has to keep the game in balance...

Good read, liked it :-)

QP cape (20 october 2007)

My wife and I play, (she plays way more) and enjoy doing most of what we do together, she has her things that she does more, and I have my things, well as of Janruary that is a big problem for us as i have half the stuff we use and she has the other half the stuff we use and we now have to pay each other for the stuff that we got in the first place and the other person is just holding. the thing with the graves when people die is just dumb, there is no pk'ing anymore if you look at it, even if they dont come back for there stuff you dont ever get a chance to puick it up (because it could be (RWT) or some other form of cheeting.)

get rid of botters, scammers, and anything else like that, find anybody that does RWT and delete there accounts, ban there ip or something to that effect.

for the most part i think i enjoy the updates in general, i think that the exchange is a terrible thing to add, there is allready tons of peole running around RS screming noob to anybody that doesnt have the expensive stuff, and with this new addition anybody can buy it all oh and the people that used to trade the items they got in quests or mob drops for money cant anymore, or cant charge a price that most people will pay.

i was actually happy :D with the GE, it makes runescape..not so...chaotic, though i miss merching dearly, i've learned to cope with change and always love it when i place something up for sale, or post a buy, and immediately get results, also it makes selling goods from runecrafting, woodcutting, fletching etc. so so so much easier to sell.

now on to pking, frankly i was extremely disappointed that pking in the most part of wild was done away with :boohoo: , but...bounty hunter seems to be doing okay in subsitute.

so when its all said and done, Jagex did a fine job with updates, whether changing graphics OR gameplay... ::'

and BTW  I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE SUMMONING UPDATE...

I'm hoping that i will be able to look back a year from now, and say summoning was a great addition to the already amazign game that we all love and play. :)

brutius99.png

Your kidding right? Did you play rs1 ? If yes, were you a successful pker?

The most rich , most famous, and most deadly pkers had high melee AND magic. The real pkers, the ones who could 3 hit level 90 hitpoints used magic.

My apologies, it's been a long time since RSC, and I mostly just remember there being a lot of pures in the Wildy in those days too. This is why I don't write articles about the history of pking. O:)

i was thinking about summoning before they we found out about it well it wasn't really summoning  it was necromacy like summoning the undead but this is way better

and also i hate autoers i wish they would just shut down but that wont happen no it wont.

i am on jagex's side on the war of rwt my friend recently bought 10mil and has become a rich man plus hes bying more and more every day he got 5mil richer and he has turned mean as he has each set of full barrows and dragon and 2 godswords zammy and armadyl plus he has the biggest house i eva seen has like 3 demonic thrones i think it is,(the cool lookin red 1's) and heaps more i bet right now hes buying all (g) stuff and he has each god armour i hate him now if this is wat rwt does i dont wanna be a part of it. :shame:

P.S. sorry for the long post :(

Truth is, there's no such thing as a good update, which was really where the author was pointing.

I'm sure everyone would be happy if there is a bank organisation update or just some bank space.

Mmm... While you may have a point, the simple problem of f2p versus p2p would make it into a bad update for some. P2P'ers would be unhappy if F2P got something, anything, so that's not a good update for everyone, and that means that by what I said earlier, it's not a good update. Like I said, it's only good if everyone thinks it's good. Of course, if it was P2P only, the F2Pers wouldn't be happy because they didn't get it. (Duh. ) So basically any update can be stripped to those essentials, which makes it impossible to have a good update.

Being immature is a part of being mature.
A good, well-thoughtout article. but you still didn't tell us what a good update is!

I believe a good update is one that balances things. Skills need to be compared to others. Not other methods of training that skill. I mean, if a new update came out that had herblore xp rewards, and was a great free method of training herblore, I'd consider it a good update!

The update I'm currently pushing for  is to bring the bone grinder at the ectofuntus back into line with other skills which no longer require repetitive clicking. And I could really use all the help I can get because I seem to be :wall: . Just search the Jagex forums for "grinder" and add your voice to the call. Please? Pretty please?

:wall: -.-

Whatever you guys define as a 'good update' seems to be skewed...

Sure they might lose members, but these updates were for the survival of the game itself. Sure the wilderness is worse now, but would you rather people being insanely rich because they had a couple of bucks to spare on Runescape gold, or a ruined wilderness and changed trading?

Most players love anti-macro updates, but not anti-RWT or scamming updates. They don't realise that macroing and RWT are completely related, and ultimately, so is scamming.

Sue me, flame me, do whatever. But just don't blame Jagex for all of your problems.

to slightly change the subject, I think that Summoning will be a good update. The developers seem to have tried hard to balance it out among skillers and combat, and I don't *think* it'll be either over- or under- powering.

We can only hope, anyway, runescape might explode if it's not AMAZING! :uhh:

good read 8-) i had 92 range before they came out with the new shops, and i was proud of it. but with the new shops, 'any noob could do it' i wasnt mad, but just dissappointed. 99 in cooking, range, and wc doesnt mean as much as it used to.

flingboy05.png

maybe im alittle ignorant on the subject but what was the trading update for and calling me an idiot or noob will not be a acceptable answer.

People used to buy GP for real world money. That meant that people who had money in real life were the richer ones in RS, which is not fair, right?

The GP came from autoers, programs who kept getting resources all day. That absolutely screwed up the prices of yews for example. It also made getting resources for legitimate players VERY tough.

To transfer the money to the people who bought it, they would trade the autoer. The autoer would give them the amount of money they'd bought, for free. Now that there is a 3K limit, you would have to get 3K per 15 minute from the autoer. That would take hours to transfer just 1 million GP. In similar ways, you can't drop trade the money, you can't kill someone for the money, you can't duel someone for the money. And maybe I forgot something.

On topic, I really wish this kind of post would be posted for example on the Runescape front page. That would shut some people up. I bet 6-12 months from now, I'll look at those who quit and say that it's their loss, not Jagex's.

Matt: You want that eh? You want everything good for you. You want everything that's--falls off garbage can

Camera guy: Hoooholy [bleep]!

Matt: FUNNY ISN'T REAL! FUNNY ISN'T REAL!

First of all, the guide is great, but I must say I do like to toot my own horn about errors I've noticed (but it's a very indepth guide, and plan on reading many more).

I must say that the only good update now would be that PKing and Trading before the update would return. Though it would come back with the return of RWT, but I've noticed over my several years that we have figured out our own ways of combating the Bots/Gold Farmers/Account Sellers. For instance, how many of us used to kill those we were lead to believe were Green Dragon Bots, if you look through the forums, there is a guide to killing them. Also they've got guides how to fight Yew/Fishing/Mining Bots too.

Theres only one, maybe to updates we might be able to agree on. First one is the notify the a trade receiver that there is something changed in the trade and who can forget the Grand Exchange. The GE allowed us to sell/buy large quantities in short periods of time easily except for the highly annoying (in my opinion) down payment to sell with the GE.

As usual, I always enjoying reading the Tip.it Times! Thanks for the news! :D

Callahan140.png

I know it's late but i've only just got round to reading all of the old Times posts thanks to my work server crashing so i can't really do much else.

As a health and safety advisor at the company i work for, my thinking regarding the "repetitive clicking" to get to 99 cooking in this post can actually be root cause of an RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury), especially considering the general age of players seems to be quite low. Fair enough it has made things like 99 cooking and 99 fletching a lot easier to do, but at the end of the day, this is a game and it should be fun - getting to 99 is still a major achievement whether you did it the old skool way or with the next "cook/make x".

I mean, how often have you been playing for a while and noticed your wrist starts aching after a lot of clicking? I may only be 24 (probably old in runescape terms, but still young), but due to a lot of skating injuries over the last 10 years i actually have mild arthritis in both wrists, which makes playing runescape sometimes unbearable with all the clicking.

However, Jagex have not completely sold out, as they have still made skills like firemaking a difficult task without "burn x" - and with my wrists in the state they are, getting to 96 (so far) has been a major achievement for me.

I am in no way condoning the fact that they should make the game easier for everyone with a "drop all" in your inventory or "make x" on every skill possible, but you have to take into account that every company needs to have health and safety advisors and runescape is no different. At the end of the day, the wellbeing of the players is paramount as things that make the player uncomfortable will mean that they won't come back and play again, which is where they will lose out.

PS> i've never been into the wilderness unless it's part of a quest as i take a moral stance on PK'ing (in that i don't agree with it as a "skiller"), so i'm not going to comment on that part!
