Whats happened to yews?

Featured Replies

Ok I just got done cutting 1k yews. im thinking, "Can't wait until i get 400-420k!!!" When I go to sell them I see that there only worth 350-380gp. What happened? Was it supply and demand? Inflation? MErchanting? Can a Runescape economic expert tell me why its happening and tell me if theres a chance that I can sell my yews for 400 ea again? TY :D

Im no expert but my guess is that the suply have gone up, since many people began chopping them for the same reason as you. Of course, I might be wrong.

Yew longs are impossible to sell now because of the price floor in the GE, so people aren't power cutting yews for fletching levels anymore.

Yews shouldn't be 400 in the first place, just sell them for 300-380 and be greatful you get that.

-.-

It's a simple mass effect. After the GE came in, yews rose (for whichever reason you want). Lots of people said: "Wow, yews are now 400 ea! I'll cut some to earn lots of cash!", while others said: "Wow, yews are now 400 ea! It's not worth it any more to buy them for fletching, so I won't buy more".

Less demand + more supply = Price drop.

No hes mad and complaining because he feels they shouldn't have left normal price to begin with. :-w

Anyways Meol pretty much said it all. People started cutting yews when they were 400 ea to make some money, and when more and more people cut the supply goes up. The same thing is happening to P ess, When people saw it was 150 ea they said "Let me go mine p ess for an easy 200k+ an hour." Now that there is more people mining ess, the price has droped 10-15 gp ea.

Thats the way the economy works.

I'm just pissed off with all the cash [developmentally delayed]ed players, that were getting more then they should, moaning at the price drops, back to normal.

Hell, I remember when they were under 300 each. Be happy getting a good 80gp more per log.

[bleep] the law, they can eat my dick that's word to Pimp

dont worry, the price will drop, people will start buying them again and the price will rise, i would hold on to those logs. and btw, people who r mad that yews r 400ea, u are buying the yews for 400ea and bs for 150ea(correct me if im wrong) and then u go and alch for 720ea or u sell em 600ea. u r still making a profit, right?

Couple things wrong with that.

Besides making an investment, I don't see any reason that demand would increase. Powercutting Yew Longs isn't as effective anymore, so demand is dropping.

Also, they alch for 768 each, and you don't make a profit from alching if you buy the natures as well.

You can't sell for 600 each anymore either, the lowest price is 700+ and no one buys for that price.

They actually alch for 768 ea, but you are forgetting to factor in the cost of nature runes which makes it 800 per yew long. So no they dont make profit. And yew longs sell for like 700 ea at ge. They haven't been 600 ea since before GE came out.

There's a very simple solution to your problem: if you manage to sell your logs, just chop more yews to compensate for the price decrease. Plus, with the extinction of yew bots, you should have an easier time chopping yews and it wouldn't take you a long time to cut 1K.

Chances are, they're not going to sell for a very very long time.

The 5% does work but JaGEx implemented price floors, and Yew Longs hit one of them. This price floor is at 11/12th of the high alch price. The price will never change as long as they're using that formula.

icecube7.jpeg

The 5% limits are still working, and the floor of the yew longs could get lower. However, that'd need that lots of trades below the market price are done, and nobody is willing to sacrifice their money for this.

This signature is intentionally left blank.

Qeltar can explain it better but it's merchanting which is causing the rapid rise and fall of prices.

Merchants can now effectively watch the current market and buy sell accordingly because they know what player reaction will be. For example they buy yews 300ea, and know that the next day they will 310ea to buy. They then hold onto vast amounts of stock as each day the demand outstrips the amount of yews for sale.

This then causes a negative effect as the price gets so high that sellers refuse to buy and the price then goes down. At this point the merchants panic and sell there vast amounts of logs in the hope of still making a proft. The market is then flooded, which accelerates the drop in price as the demand is not as high as the amount of logs for sale.

I have noticed this with a few items, the most prolific currently being pure ess. Other "less popular" items I buy regularly are forever going up and down. I have got to the point where I horde items when they hit low prices so I don't get stung when they next rise.

I am not a merchanter, so it is pretty annoying not having a stable market.

cat_sabbath.png

Trust the Gene Genie!

Everyone chops them in the hopes of cash, which increases the supply. At the high price, the demand was low to begin with. Players know that they are not worth buying, so they don't buy them. The supply is high, demand is low, the price will fall.
